Special Message from the Prime Minister of Sweden

A message we have given to France is worth repeating here as it explains our position in a nice short summary;
The events of 1814, described here in detail, caused a significant distrust of foreigners in our lands. You could say our people have developed a sort of Xenophobia, and the people who hold the more extreme of these views (the Purists) are likely to become violent towards foreigners. For this reason we can not be sure of their safety. The two alternatives are we provide armed escorts or we allow the missionaries to bring their own. As you can imagine the latter is impossible, foreign troops in our lands would be even worse. The former we could not allow either as our small forces are already stretched protecting long our borders. You will note however, we escorted the missionaries safely out of our lands.

We have recognised that this xenophobia is a critical issue and have decided that free trade is the best method to show that foreigners can bring benefits as well. The new varieties of goods now in our lands and the prosperity of of of exports shows that this is working well, as described here in detail. It is likely therefore that as the populace become familiar with foreigners over time, they will accept them further into the country. At the moment they are limited to our ports and outside our gates of Copenhagen, where we can protect them more easily.

As for Finland, it is a fellow Scandinavian nation and our diplomatic mission, (described here in detail), emphasised that it would still retain its autonomy yet gain the protection of the whole Scandinavian Union. We are in no way forcing that nation under the threat of arms, as we want that nation to become part of the greater Scandinavian Union. Our territorial ambitions go no further than this.
When considering Scandinavia actions please consider this.

Signed the Prime Minister of Sweden, 1819

The Kingdom of Joseon

New expansion to be added to the Kyujanggak

One of the major points of King Seung’s reign has been the ongoing effort to continue his father’s work and turn Korea into the scientific capital of the Asian world. To this aim, the king has announced that an expansion is being added to the Kyujanggak. The royal library, established under King Jeongjo’s rule, was created to be a center of culture and research for the entire kingdom. With Korea free from Qing rule, King Seung hopes that new texts will flood into the Kyujanggak.

The new addition is believed to expand the capacity of the Kyujanggak by 15%. While the majority of works that are slated to be added come from the Kingdom of Joseon itself, several foreign texts from China and Europe are to be translated an included into the library. This has prompted outcry from several key members in both the Seron and Norin factions, who believe these works might prove detrimental to the Korean cultural identity. However, the king has made it clear that only texts of scientific importance are to be added.

New bureaucratic initiative opens government to lower classes

As the kingdom expands, so does its need for officials. The new industry needs managers, scribes and scholars are needed to take records and keep up with the latest advancements, and the new foreign policy requires more diplomats and customs officials to help ease Korea onto the world stage. Thus a new bureaucratic exam, based off of the exams that existed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, has been created to fill in this void. The exams are open to all citizens of the Kingdom of Joseon, regardless of societal status. Those who pass the examination will then be sent to undergo training in the art of bureaucracy. Lodging and accomadations will be provided to new students, as well as financial aid to those who need assistance in paying tuition. The initiative is being praised by Silhak scholars within the Seron faction, who have been calling it "a step out of the darkness of heedless tradition."

With the raging war north of Israel, the government decided to officially take a stand. Public opinion was split, but the the pro-Istanbul side had held a strong majority since the conflict broke out. Most supporters of the Turkish/Bosnian/Moscow forces were Muslims and Christians. Most Jews supported the Free State of Istanbul for it's treatment of Jews and its position as victim of aggressive neighbors. The Israelites had been in that position many times before so they supported the underdog. The government had remained silent on the issue until this morning. Let's listen in on the prsident's speech...

“The Lord Our G-d's Most Beloved Nation of His People had intended to stay outwardly neutral in the conflict of the Bosporus. However, the leak created by the Confederate States of America showed that the secret status of Israel was not as secret as the government had hoped. It was shown that the aggressors of the war had discussed Israel behind closed doors and already were fairly sure as to where Israel’s government sided in the conflict. Realizing that it couldn’t stay much neutral much longer, the Israeli government has decided to make this statement. We are officially siding with the Free City of Istanbul, Hedjaz, and France in the conflict. The aggressive states of Anatolia, Bosnia, and Moscow were acting out of pure greed to seize the land of the tolerant, diverse, free people of Istanbul. Of the states involved, Istanbul has worked to guarantee equality and has pledged to the government of Israel to watch out for the Jews of the city. Therefore, Israel feels justified in backing up the Free City of Istanbul financially and if need be, in arms.” –Speech given by the President at the Temple Mount this morning

In response to Mongolian aggression, the Kingdom of Joseon and the Chinese Federation have established a defensive pact between the two nations. Should either party be attacked by an outside aggressor, the other party will come to their aid by declaring war on the aggressor. Crown Prince Myeong has been sent to Taipei to ratify this treaty.

Oh. Well, that's what I get for not double checking the thread; I had seen (before you updated your orders) that you weren't taking that province.

OOC: Yeah, I think I updated my orders... 4 times I believe. And I would probably need to do it once more to put my diplomatic agreements up later.

Anyway, your settlers are safe and sent back. Unless they try something, which won't be very wise.
