I wondered, wasn't King Leopold I having a great long beard? I remember having seen his face (or was that another Leopold?) on a old coin, and indeed the beard made him look royal.

You probably saw Leopold II

Great leaderhead :goodjob:

Corvex, there are many seperatists movements in the U.S. You have California, Alaska, Hawai'i, Confederates, Puerto Rico, Washington, Texas, Utah (Deseret), Native Americans, San Fransisco Bay Area, San Fransisco City, and more.

Hah, Flanders wouldn't be stupid enough to invade anyone, they'd get crushed within minutes.

BTW, Dutch beer sucks. Heineken tastes like skunk piss. Irish and Mexican beer is the best.

Belgium (where Flanders are indeed) isn't the Netherlands. Belgian beers aren't Dutch beer. Beside, Heineken is piss, even most Dutch would agree on that. It is an export beer for those who don't like the real taste of it.

That was Leopold II, ok :) Thanks for educating me Maisse!

Belgium was part of the Netherlands so the beer is probably real similar. Next time I see some Belgian beer I'll try it, and I've never seen any.

If it's better than Killian's Irish Red, Miller Genuine Draft, or Pacifico.. I'll be amazed.

Mobilize, you should check out what you say or many Belgian will hate you soon ;)
Just after a few seconds googling, check out that site to give you an idea:

Frankly, my favorite beer is scottish and not very familiar in cerveza, but beers in Belgium are more than just a drink, they are culture

I don't know.. sounds a little too bourgeois to me. I hate wine.. and it seems to me Belgians try to make their beer out like wine. And if Belgian beer is so good why isn't it so popular? I do like the fact that it has 10% alcohol. If I could get some Belgian beer I would.

Ha.. threadjacking a leaderhead thread with an alcohol discussion.

I forgot to mention Canadian beer, that stuff is great too.

Trust us Mobilize, Belgian beer is much better than German or French beer. I didn't drink Netherland, so I couldn't tell.

And for the bourgeois thing.. It has nothing to do with wine. Not for the taste, not for the way of drinking it. All sections of the population drinks, from 14 to 70 years. Definitly not a bourgeois hobby :)

And this is the best :

And this is the best way to drink it :

How could you speak of Belgium without mentionning beers ? ;)

Leopold II would have been a good choice. This Leopold was done at the request of Goldflash for his mod :) .

The "belgian" history of Count_of_Fland looks like the history of Flanders

that's probably because flanders and wallony haven't always shared their history, explaining the different language ;)

although i'm proud to be belgian, our beloved country has been artificially created in 1830 as a buffer state between france, germany and the netherlands

Yay! A Belgian Civ! I love you!!!!! (not really, unless you're a girl of course) I cannot believe it! Our small country, made into a civ with leaderheads and all! And my hometown is like 15th... (Mechelen) The sweetness! Thank you!

~Funky~

And another thing, to Supa, the VB is not currently winnning the elections. I hope SP &A or Groen! does better, cause otherwise we're screwed. Yes I am a green socialist. I'm brown. (what you get when you combine green and red :))

~Funky~

They aren't, but they were, what, second, third at the last regional election in Flanders ?
Mh, the 'green' partie has been backstabbed last time.
Bah, enough politics on these board.

Let's talk beer :D
Kriek is good, but not the beer I would drink all evening.

If thou wanst me to talketh beer, i shalt talketh beer. I'm personally a sucker for Palm, especially Dobbel Palm. (made only in Winter) However, I also like Kriek. And that one Raspberry beer I tasted at my grandma's house once... But sadly enough, I don't get to drink a lot, considering I'm only 13 and my parents only let me have so much... Oh well, next year I can drink on my own at the youth house. I can drink on my own in café's in 3 years from now.

We can also discuss where in our proud, small, and terribly overpopulated nation. (878 people per sq. mile! OMG!!!!!) Almost as bad as India... Anyways, I live in the small village of Blaasveld (less than 1000 people), which is part of the larger town of Willebroek (about 3000 people) which is about 10 km from Mechelen. (80,000 people) I went to Maanrock not so long ago. Where any of you there, or did you watch it on TV?

Anyways, one time in Civ III I played as the Germans (I like their characteristics, Militaristic and Scientific) and renamed them the Belgians and renamed all of their cities. There was an Arabian colony NW of Mechelen (Mechelen really does have a large Arabian population, weird, huh?) I converted that city and renamed it Lier, got Mecca by conversion from the Arabians too, renamed that one Brugge, got into war with the Persians (now that really has never happened) and had to go through Carthaginian territory to get to the Zulus, who I also was waging war against. It was a fun game, but it lacked in technology. (by 2000, still Industrial Age) It was like, my 3rd game I think...

Anyways, hope to see ye around soon.

~Funky~

BTW, my name is Jef Willems. Can't get much more Belgian than that, can it?
