MB3 - Old Testament Bunfight

Space: Is it OK if we swap turns this time round?
As you will have noticed I found a way through the firewall at my remote location.

Good luck against the Zulus, Space. As a precaution, you'll probably want to declare war on them and then let them commit the first aggressive act, so that the Babylonians will enter the war on our side. It may be necessary to renew our MPP with the Babylonians on your second turn, too.

You might get lucky with a "Leave or declare war" as there's a couple of Impi just inside our borders near Entremont :)

Ted

I looked at the save yesterday and I noticed we could win this through domination if we manage to get both the Zulu and the Persian lands... So that made me wonder, what win are we aiming for: domination or conquest? (diplo?, spaceship?)

edit: Took a look at the first post, domination it is then! :) Because we need the Zulu and Persian lands we don't want the Babs to conquer any cities. Any thoughts on how we can involve them in the war (to slow them down) but prevent them from taking cities?

How about a line of (obsolete) troops or Workers blocking their access to the Zulu arm of the map? That way they could only invade by sea :)

We'll need to make Pompeii and Viroconium our first Zulu targets to keep the Babylonians from taking them, but otherwise this shouldn't be much of a problem. We have an MPP with the Babs but not an RoP, unless Ted made one. So once we get started against the Zulu homeland, we should be able to keep the front moving westward too quickly for them ever to reach it.

No RoP,

just a couple of turns left on the MPP :)

Move troops into postion at Richborough, killing the pathetic SoD of the Zulu.

I'll leave it here, don't have time for more tonight and I'm sure MB is dying to get to this one... ;). There's a leader, which we may or mey not want to save for ToE. We are a bit thin on defense still but a couple more factories will finish and attacking carefully will get us far. When (not if :)) we've captured Richborough and Ngome we can easily cut off the Bab cavs.

The save is >>>> here <<<<

Fine turns, Space Oddity. :goodjob:

Some suggestions in the new situation:

1. We should cash-rush all the libraries we're building, as an obvious contribution to the domination victory. With the war-chest Ted and Space have built up, we can easily afford this. (Parenthetically, the rest of you seem to have the patience of :jesus: as regards waiting for our cities to get their first cultural expansions, but I don't. ;) )

2. If we're ever going to return to greater-than-minimum research, now is the time. We could probably win without doing this, but we might find ourselves uncomfortably behind the Babylonians in technology with the game not quite won.

3. We're still quite a few turns from getting Scientific Method, and most or all of them will be war turns, so just hoarding the Great Leader we've got now seems too passive. I think we should form a third Sipahi army (into which two asterisked elites should go) with the Leader, qualify for the Pentagon, and build that.

4. We should build coal plants in some good cities which can complete them quickly, and above all in Brusa. The game may be almost over by the time we get Hoover.

I agree with points 1, 3 & 4. I'm not sure if we need to bother with 2.

Ted

Regarding point 2: If we want to take on the Babs at some point (just for the sake of it, eh Karasu ;) ) it would be nice to be able to at at least the same tech level. or maybe I just don't want to be stupid....

I fully agree on 1 (I just wanted to leave some options open for the next players...;) )

As for 3, I agree too, just after I named the unit, I realised min science it would be too slow in coming to keep the leader, but if we go ahead with 2 we could be there sooner. Again options open...

At 4, suprisingly I don't agree, we really are a bit short on units. The rails is the only reason we can pull this one of, but we should watch our back. So if it was up to me I'ld build a few units first.

So do I.
Incidentally, If we don't increase research we obviously don't need to freeze the leader for ToE (just to strenghten point 3).

I don't know where Hammurabi is up the tech tree, but my first feeling is that he will get to Replaceable Parts before we reach domination.
We can either speed up research a little bit to get to Electricity and then reassess the situation, or simply forget research and build a gazillion Sipahi to rely upon if we need to take some blue land...

We could stagger the Coal Plants, only having one being built at any one time. Part of the reason I went for a peaceful turn was to get those factories in so that we could produce units faster. Coal plants will up the ante again :)

I'm still undecided on the research issue but I guess it wouldn't hurt to invest a little more in Science.
