New NESes, ideas, development, etc

What I am saying is that Initiative Points will be used for all government actions, and that includes launching and sustaining military campaigns, with all the preparatory and logistical work that involves.
Not quite what I meant by "examples" - looking more for historical ones :p - but all right, that makes sense.

But should initiative points be assigned based on government type as opposed to, say, the character of the person in charge of the ruling group in the state?

Here's a new NES idea that just popped into my head. If a lot of people like it I might make the acual NES thread or just a preview thread. It's an alternet history of WWII.

Story

The year is 1939. Germany has just started their invasion of Poland. As the invasion continued however, it seemed that the Polish government is going to surrender. But, England, and France declare war on Germany. In the Americas the US is suffering the greatest depression in history as the total unemployment reight in the country is at 53%. As the Soviet Union, and Japan; the Germans closets allies start invading neghboring countries it looks like only about 6 months into the war that the newly formed Axis Allance is going to win the war, a stratijic mistake leads into one downfall into another for the Axis powers and the Allies have only about a window of 2 years to get this war over with. Will the Allies or Axis win? You decied.

If anybody can get this NES idea started I would love to play in it.

Listen. If you don't have Firefox, get it here:

http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

As soon as you are done, get this:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6526

See, I know the people of this forum, and coherent spelling is something people value a lot. Strategic isn't spelled out as 'stratijic'. Secondly, people are always terribly untrusting about new members and their projects; and especially if they have made a lot of them which all failed. The thing is, whenever you have made a decent setup for your NES as well as clear, practical rules, people will probably join. That just requires decent spelling to start with; otherwise your posts seem rushed without being thought completely through, and people in here prefer quality over quantity anytime.

That's also why many of us don't value post count that much.

So, you should probably consider the setting in more details, think about factors such as spelling, nations, and basic rules, then post it here. The general idea of an alternate World War II NES has been done many times, but that's not for you to feel intimidated by. Really, you'll have players joining if you have your posts a tad more aesthetical. :)

Just get the spelling straight. :p

Seconded. This post should be stickied somewhere. :p

@ Anonymoose: For heavens sake why use nanobots? Why on earth would they cause the symptoms of a zombie outbreak in humans? Why not simply destroy the nerve cells in the neck, paralysing the body fatally from the neck down or some similar highly efficient, highly effective disruption to the body causing near instant death?

For heaven's sake! I don't know. It's just a cool idea. It's seriously looking like it'll be a Protozoan of some sort. Protozoans have more power than we can possibly imagine.

This is my asic scenario that would make nanobots a viable option:

Advances in science have lead to nanobots whose main job is to maintain the human body and keep it alive and well long after it should. However, an unfortunate side effect of this is that once the host of the nanobots dies, the nanobots basically hijack their nerve system and brain and force the body to keep moving, eating, all that junk.

The nanobots wouldn't have the same concepts or morality as humans, and may see other humans as food sources, or they might try to spread the nanobots to them as well in an effort to "help" them just like they've helped their host. If you could figure out some way to make the zombies really agressive, as well as make the nanobots plentiful enough to infect new people constantly (like make them self-replicating or something scifish like that) and you'd be all set.

That is a good explanation for the microbot idea. I'm probably going to stick with protozoans because they're mysterious and have genomes that rival ours in complexity, and their adaptability is amazing. Once I figure out how to run such a NES, I'll put it up, but I don't know how to do that. I just don't want this (in my opinion) decent idea to crash and burn because of my ineptitude.

Why don't we go with a potential POD in Michael Crichton's book Prey? Just imagine that the nanos are able to actually survive and continue spreading, instead of dying. Consequences would be quite catastrophic...

Yes. The bots were connected to E.coli bacteria, and they replicated pretty efficiently. They even took control of that one scientist's body. I find it difficult to resist this idea, but I feel more comfortable with protozoans.

I was just thinking that why don't I just create a NES like in the good old days of NESing ( the story-based ones). How would you guys like that idea?

That said, however, wanting to run a story NES is still a very good sentiment. What sort of story NES are you suggesting?

That is actually a great starting point. Story NESes also don't require that much effort for you to control. Hosting a Story NES would merely get you used to the pace of updating (If you update in that NES, that is. Some Story NESes are pretty weird; I've hosted one once that I'm not really sure what it was about :p)

But, yeah, what ideas for themes do you have? You have a good lot of freedom when choosing a Story NES; you can even be quite innovative without being too rash with anything.

(Also, I'm sure Iggy would digest it no matter what. :p)

Anyways, my suggestion is that you brainstorm a bit in here for responses. :)

Can anyone help me out with galleys? My NES is based in 1350 AD, and I don't really know anything about ships of that era. What I got now are mainly Square-Rigged galleys for Northern European nations, and Lateen galleys for Mediterranean nations,(and Mali). Nations can be allowed to research and create more advance galleys, Mali and Scotland are the only nations that start out with galleys that can reach the New World.

In 1350? Any particular reason you chose Mali and Scotland?
