New NESes, ideas, development, etc

GalaxyNES was an NES both ahead and behind it's time. I did not give it the attention it deserved :(

GalaxyNES was a great NES.. ended up joining it to late to make a real impact, and it died just as the jubbla were starting to come into their own. would be more then interested in joing a re-start. ether with the jubbla, or another creature I have an Idea for.

The question is who will be brave enough to start it again. :p

Have any mods developed any sorts of battle minigames, for a more genuine war feeling? Maybe something that takes into consideration stats for leadership, experience, technology, weather, terrain, troop types, etc, and uses dice to add a little randomness?

Weren't you around several years ago when Symphony D. et al. were pushing QJM/TNDM as the basis for a combat resolution platform?

I may have been but that is not ringing a bell.

While I have not abandoned the idea of the Freelancer NES, here is another idea for a potentially interesting NES, based out of a Harry Potter fanfiction called Emperor. In the fanfic, Harry Potter becomes a British officer and ascends in the ranks up to Marshal and... well, not going to tell, you'd better read the story, it's quite interesting.

Anyway, Harry uses lots of magic while in a war with Spain, which eventually leads to the discovery of magic and the hidden magical world by the non-magical world. This leads towards a partial breakdown of society, civil war in many countries, etcetera, etcetera.

The idea is simple: a modern day world discovers that magic is not only feasible, but has been hidden from the normal world for centuries. Thus, the governments of the world will have to make choices: what are going to be the policies re: mages? Will you try to integrate them? Will they be segregated? Maybe forced to register? Will they fight with your armed forces, or against them? Will you attempt to include them in the development of new technologies? How will you deal with the factions in the nation that are opposed, for any reason, to the mages? What will you do with those mages that are opposed to you, or are just plain racist against non-magical people?

Lots of possibilities... although, unfortunately, quite difficult to implement. But it would be a potentially hilarious idea.

I would join.

Well, small change of plans for the Freelancer NES.

The original idea would be that all the planets in the place would have been already occupied, in some way or another. However, I've realised that this would be a bit boring, because then everything would be already known. Thus, the plan has changed: since one of the stars in the system designed by Haseri (thank him!) has several planets where life can exist and thrive, I thought that, perhaps, instead of putting each of the governments in each star, perhaps each government would be in each of those planets within the same star, and then the governments would direct further colonization, and several rocky planets would have bases that are buried or covered in domes.

Other things for Freelancer NES:
- All players get a basic spaceship. It has five rooms (the pilot/table room, 2 rooms with bathroom appliances, a room for the drives and a 75 m3 (5m x 5m x 3m) hold) and a weapon (a basic Laser Gun). All other systems (computer, atmo feed, connection to the Cortex, food storage...) are already a part of it. Other objects will be some foodstuffs and other basic things.
- Depending the answers to a questionnaire I have been working on, and the job you initially picked (which I mentioned in [post #8657) you get certain initial extras, such as weapons or other objects related to your past and your job.
- The first available missions will be those for the recruiting in the different organizations. Of course, I will also be making other missions unrelated to the organizations for those that want to be independent.
- When you get recruited, you will be getting other extras in both your ship and yourself. For example, if you join Black Sea Corporative, your hold gets expanded, while the Legiferi get external ship weapons that can short-circuit electronics (to capture people alive, you know).
- Whether you are an independent, or you join one of the Organizations, you can get missions that advance the plot from anyone. Of course, if you don't join an Org, then you don't get the special rewards for being part of the organization. Well, if you are part of Whiterock or the Spacers' Guild, then you won't be able to accept missions from the other, but that's small.
- Certain missions will allow you to rise in the ranks of the Organization you have joined.

Are there alien races in your game, or just humans?

That is what I meant, and darn. :p

You should have some crazy Homo sapiens celestis evolution happening with all the genetic manipulation going on.
