New NESes, ideas, development, etc

NES where people can write stories for any nation/faction, period.
Collaborative world managing.

Y/N, and why?

I prefer the feel of ownership in a NES and that seems too free form for me.

See Thlayli's PreTACNES, very similar experiment to what you are describing (only the map was created beforehand).:)

Nope, nothing like that. Pre-generated world, except players just write stories for whatever faction they want, and anyone can write for anything. No claiming factions/countries, it's all freeform. Just write what's fun, or write for who you want to win.

It works as a more story-style NES, but it makes the competitive nature of a NES far harder to simulate in a mutually agreeable manner. Sounds very fun though. :)

I like this idea, actually.

In an ideal world, it would let some people focus on wars and some people focus on domestic stuff, and thus allow both to be fleshed out thoroughly.

I have a new NES in the works. Probably will not be started until early next month but I am curious as to the interest of this type of NES.

The starting year will be in 2100 and the story begins when the United Nations voted that each member country limit their military according to their bill which was passed by 4 of 5 Security Council Members and accepted by 70% of the UN Members. Those who decided to leave the UN now wage war against Private Paramilitary Corporations owned by the players under the leadership of their home country or the UN.

The players will take advantage of the power vacuum by establishing new Paramilitary Corporations that will wage war for their country or as a hired mercenary army. These Paramilitary Corporations will be able to build and buy anything from Carriers to spies, these corporations could become stronger than their home country and even could become strong enough to take over the world with their loyal and private armies. Each Corporation at the start of the NES will begin with a sizable cash donation from their home country or private business owners with stock in your corporation (depending on your preferences). With this starting cash you can begin your purchases, you may get the opportunity to buy entire divisions from your country who would rather make money off them rather than demobilize and send them home.

Things I plan to include in the NES for purchase or for interesting events:
Spies.
Custom created units.
Double Agents.
Ability to purchase new technology.
Ability to defect.
Infantry type units. (Foot soldiers, mortar crews, anti tank, whatever infantry does it will be purchasable.)
Naval units. (Submarines to Carriers... anything that floats can be bought or built.)
Armored units. (Tanks, artillery, troop carriers... anything that rolls and fights can be bought.)
Air Force units. (Helicopters, stealth fighters, stealth bombers, fighters, anything that flies can be bought.)

The only thing I will not include in this NES as I feel it damages the NES is Nuclear weapons. (Countries not affiliated with the UN may acquire Nukes but they will not work if captured due to high level of security and encryption codes.)

If enough interest in this, I might allow a Commander style update when Player controlled PMC engages another Player controlled PMC, in this case time slows to weeks, days or even hours if necessary to give players more direct control in commanding their units in battle.

Also included would be Assassins, or Hit Men. With these I will expect detailed descriptions as to how you plan to carry out the assassination. The more detailed the more successful.

Would anyone be interested in something like this? Feedback appreciated.

Also I still plan to finish up my other NES even if I will have two NESes running at the same time. With my job slowing down for the summer I will have loads of free time.

This bit is the only one that worries me. But the rest of it sounds interesting.

I know! Pull us up in NESchat and let it rip! Post full results later, shorthand results via NESchat.

Good Idea!

When was the last good WW2 NES?

Another Doom Project NES is in the works. Will probably be up some time this week

You know, I always admired the idea behind your DOOM project NESes. I was actually planning on building one of my own on the side. Excellent to hear that you are making it yourself :p

I'm hunkering down to find the "golden rule" for creating a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable experience for all the players. If you, or any one else, has advice on how to achieve that, let me know please.

Some new ideas are:

-- A more thorough blackbox setup which will allow players to perform virtually any action they request, as well use or create any weapon pr equipment they choose;

-- An open character statistics sheet, allowing the player to critique their character's experiences, knowledge, and training to suite them in certain areas of combat expertise. While there will be the necessity for each player to determine levels of strength, agility, etc., those stats will merely act as the foundation for the character. Instead, players will also dictate how characters behave in certain situations, respond to certain stimuli, etc.;

-- A more freeform early game, capitalizing on players' intuition and intelligence, and rewarding smart actions with information;

-- Players will have more room for action between updates, with results provided by me.

-- Ultimately, I plan on "renting" #nes for a few hours on update nights to allow for interactive update writing: i.e., players can make choses as the update is unfolding, resulting in more accurate outcomes.

I love playing your DoomNES but it never seems to last... I hope this time will be different.

In any case I will continue to join it. I also like the new ideas you have in mind for it.

I would also join DoomNES.

Also, given the lack of success of my last attempt to make a NES, I think that maybe I'm not cut out for modding NESes, or at least for modding NESes that are a bit too complicated. I may make a NES based on Battle for Wegener-2 but in the spirit of ASNES: Motherhen, but I am not sure if that would actually work.

having talked to Seon I'm definitely interested in joining a new Doomnes

The community is crying out for a fantasy world fresh start...
