New Unit: Tlecuahuitl

matlequiquizoani. arquebusier. --> I guess that'd be it.
I think "Matlequiquizoani" isn't that hard at all. It's just an extremely long word, which might be the only problem when naming the units and all, but other than that, it's good.

Some useful words:
Warrior is "oquichtli" (plural: oquichtin)
Jaguar Warriors were simply called "ocelotl" (plural: oceloe or ocelotin) and Eagle Warriors "cuahtli" (pl.: cuauhte or cuauhtin)
Tlaminani=Archer
tlacochtli and mitl are words for spears, but also for darts and arrows
tetlacotl=club
macuahuitl=war club; wooden sword
Thus, I'd say:
Archer: Tlaminani
Warrior: Tetlacoquichtli (Club-Warrior) or Macuahuioquichtli (Those with the well known "Aztec sword" )
Spearman: Tlacochoquichtli (Spear-Warrior)
Pikeman: Huiactlacochoquichtli (Long-Spear-Warrior)

Hope this helps :D

Ok, here is my unit list for Aztec, if you could check it
- Tribal warrior (the one from Kinboat): Tetlacoquichtli
- Warrior (civ III standard): ?
- Macan warrior (replace swordsman) : Macuahuioquichtli
- Jaguar Warrior (replace man at arm) : ocelotl
- Aztec javeliner (replace spearman) : Tlacochoquichtli
- Pikeman (replace phalanx) : Huiactlacochoquichtli
- Heavy pikeman (replace pikeman): ?
- Early Archer : ?
- Late Archer (come at the same time as crossbowman): ?
- Arquebusier : matlequiquizoani

Macuahuioquichtli (Those with the well known "Aztec sword" )

:) Beats my title of "Macuahuitl Man"... I knew the name of the weapons, but what I didn't know was what the users of these weapons would be called. Thanks!

Yaotlahueliloque was translated as "fierce warriors". (singular: yaotlahuelilotl) Maybe take this as standard warrior. Or simply Oquichtli
Early Archer: Tlaminani
Late Archer: Chicahuatlaminani (Chicahuac=developed; strong)

Heavy Pikeman: ?
Ichcahuipilli is the Aztec cotton armor, so maybe Ichcahuipilhuiactlacochoquichtli (=Cotton-Skirt-Long-Spear-Warrior) :lol: (Hey, it's not my fault that Nahuatl is an agglutinate language! :lol: )
or Chicahuahuiactlacochoquichtli...
:lol:

Eagle Warriors "cuahtli" (pl.: cuauhte or cuauhtin)

;)

And if I wanted to make an archer siege weapon that uses the Tlemitl, would that be Tlemitltlaminani? Or Tlemitl Tlaminani?

:eek: Does someone know if there is a size limit to the name of units ;) ?

When your on it, why not simply make a Nahuatl translation of the entire game? :D

What's "civilization" in Nahuatl anyway?

Civilization would be probably Huehuetlatolli (Words of the Old Ones), which actually was used for the concept or "tradition", especially tradition of religious beliefs and technological knowledge, so...

Good god! That's even more unpronouncable!

The problem is mostly the rendering ... Nahuatl was originally rendered into our alphabet by archaic Spaniards and contains many alphabetic artifacts of the era and place. For instance, "X" is used for a kind of "Sh" sound. Not knowing any native Nahuatl speakers, I would suspect that the Spanish "hui" sound is not a native sound, but an approximation by the Spanish of something else. You just have to break the words down into syllables and reform them in your mind into renderings more appropriate for a native English speaker of the modern era, and they become a lot less intimidating.

If you think Nahuatl is bad, wait til you see Welsh ... something simple like, "you are visiting the civilization fanatics web page" ends up being "ach yn gofwyo 'r gwareiddiad benboethiaid gwe dudalen" - and yes, like Nahuatl, the rendering is imperfect. "dd" is not a "d" sound, for instance, and some of the vowel combinations can represent sounds that do not exist in English!

Nahuixtelotzin can probably give a better idea of what some of the words would sound like, if they were rendered according to how they sound, without artifacts like the use of "X".

Yep, "dd" is pronounced "th".
