It may or may not be a meaningless number, but the claim that people don't spam for higher postcount is patently false.

Maybe a few people will, so what? Far more people will spam in a forum several mods have directly called and designated as a spam forum. Don't want to encourage spam? Then don't call it a spam forum.

Besides, someone spamming to gain PC shouldn't be hard to spot and deal with, and a few users have been posting a constant stream of drivel for years with nothing or very little done about it anyway,

It would be one thing if the split was along the lines of joke/mundane/spammy and political/scientific/historical, but the split is nonexistant. Both forums cover the same topics just with different moderation rules, the silliness of the idea manifests itself in how the topics were split between the two forums when they were born. Its just a weak idea that will lead to weaker and less active topics as discussion will be split between forums that likely will have significant overlap in topics.

I mean just look at the activity in this forum, its relatively dead. This will be the forum topics get sent to die it appears.

We have not designated the forum a spam forum, we are saying we are letting more spam be than we have previously - there is a world of difference there. We are generally relaxing moderation, this does include moderation of spam.

If it is, well, well played sirs, but I think its time to end the joke. If it isn't...while I respect what you all are trying to do, in typical OT mod fashion, you've ended up making things worse. This creates a logistical mess, when far less heavy handed tricks would have worked.

They posted several times it wasn't a joke on the 1st, and they seem to be sticking to it.

I don't see how it is possible to separate the one-liners and "spam" posts from the more insightful stuff. Sometimes, you need a little spam to get the conversation going, or you need some crazy X-winger to post a spam comment that leads into a more interesting discussion.

Most people seem to be staying in FT (in protest or otherwise) anyway.

Different history, with the old OT we would not have suddenly removed pc either. If we started over with NES or indeed Humor and Jokes pc might rather be disabled, however we are not likely to do so anytime soon with regards to NES. However we are looking quite strongly into folding H&J into the new pc free OT forum.

So the new OT-lite would not only not count for anything, but it would have dirty jokes and pictures of animal abuse (ie. "bonsai kittens")?

I dunno about Joe, but I don't want to run up my PC. I just want my PC to reflect how much I actually post, whether those posts are in OT, or the Civ forums, or whatever.

It's not often Azzaman and I agree, but this is one of them.

Just so you know, the busiest subforum in staff is the reported post subforum, and it is also pc free.

Why don't you make ALL the subforums in the staff forum pc free? I mean, even the CFC-bot has a post count!

Might cut down on some of the spam you (plural sense of "you") say you don't like...

Right. And to be honest, people like JollyRoger or Ziggy Stardust often manage to make a point with short one-liners better than I could with page long posts. On the other hand, other posters can ramble on with dozens of quotes and repetitions of their first page arguments while adding nothing to the discussion.

I have the feeling that the latter is seen as the inherently superior kind of post.

I agree. Some of the best threads on CFC have been started when some nutter posts some silly stuff and we all start bashing it. Great fun is had by all!
