OOC: It depends, would you consider Mars somewhat habitable? Venus and Mercury are unhabitable, Earth is Gaian, so what would Mars be?
No, Gaian is Earth. Nutra said it somewhere.I have a feeling "Gaian" is beyond Earth, and it is a world like Gaia from Foundation where all life - plus the world itself - is linked in one (possibly postphysical) entity.
"Habitable" is Earth; most of the planet supports life, and there is the potential to host a wide diversity of species, including complex life.
"Somewhat habitable" is a world where part of the planet could support life; for example, life living under icecaps or in a subsurface ocean (like theorized on Europa); even if life arose, it is unlikely complex life would evolve, and even less so sentience, and there would be far less diversity.
"Uninhabitable" supports no life whatsoever.
Note that there is the theory that aerial life could arise in gas giants; this is something that could be considered, albeit this life could never achieve any form of civilization due to the lack of solid materials.
These are my ideas; don't take them as final.

A quick rundown of chances for red giant for those interested:
1 time: 3%
2 times: 6.8%
3 times: 15.2%
4 times: 25.4%
5 times: 36.6%
6 times: 48.0%
7 times: 58.9%
8 times: 68.7%
9 times: 77.2%
10 times: 84.0%
11 times: 89.3%
12 times: 93.1%
13 times: 95.8%
14 times: 97.6%
15 times: 98.7%
16 times: 99.3%
17 times: 99.6%
18 times: 98.8%
19 times: 99.9%
So on average, expect to pay 20GC to create a star, 70GC to make it a red giant, and then 75GC to explode it giving an average total cost of 165GC and 9 turns.
To drop the average time to 5 turns, the chance should increment by .05, and to drop it to 3, by .11
Oh yeah, I just saw that post in the other thread.
I'll still leave my post up in case anyone wants to get ideas from it. (It would be cool to have Gaia-like planets IMO)
Hmm... I was not expecting both of the Chrystocen pair to be Gaian. Would make for some pretty interesting Mythology, I expect... and probably drive the inhabitants of one or the other to space pretty quickly.
