Are any nations already in a state of war?
King Charles: Oh we got a message from China?
Aide: Yes sir.
King Charles: My fire is getting a bit low, throw the message in there.
Aide: Yes sir.
*unopened letter tossed into fireplace*
By the way, Azale, what is the status of Catholicism and Protestantism in Saxony?
Sounds like it probably wouldn't be much changed from OTL, then, considering who was in charge of Saxony and Poland then.Surprisingly enough, it does. Saxony is a strongly Protestant duchy, but Augustus II had to convert to Catholicism in order to rule Poland legally. So, this is probably a controversial topic in Saxony.
We should get illusions about how the past actually was, giving a second purpose to what I intend to do. And Azale may want to switch if he is convinced by my case.
MORE ARGUMENTS: (I will get sources if asked)
-The Hapsburg Empire did not tolerate Protestants, and not that long ago tried to defeat the Protestants. Having held similiar sentiments at the most a generation before, they would not denounce them as madness at this time. They alone were allowed to try and force Protestants to abandon their faith (http://www.historyworld.net/wrldhis/PlainTextHistories.asp?groupid=1635&HistoryID=ab39). They also (ibid) vigorously supressed Protestantism in Bohemia and the northern parts of what we now call Austria.
-To be fair, they did make an exception of Silesia in their supression policy. But they did attempt to impose Catholicism on the rest of the empire.
-They did not denounce the French for expelling the Protestants
-The Austrians, as the losers of the Thirty Years War, would be more likely to resent the peace
-TO BE FAIR, they could have made a rash and exaggerated claim plausibly as a deliberate diplomatic ploy, or the equivilant of a modern rash statement (like calling someone delusional for believing in a swing when there was a 5% swing).
