The Very-Many-Questions-Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread Thread XL

I don't think it would be a problem if we wanted to go ahead with Random Questions XL - <Clever Title Here>.
Maybe a poll could be added to ask if people would like to rename the threads to "Random Questions (insert number and original title)"? Is that something only a moderator can do?

I'm suggesting a poll because it would mean changing one of the traditions of OT threads, but if people are amenable to just changing it without bothering with a poll, it's okay by me.

If we do a poll, I would like these options:

Yes
No
Don't care
Give Maddy a hug from me

And make it multiple-choice so people can vote for up to two choices (Maddy's really enjoying the extra hugs I've been giving her from people in the Rants thread who check that option, and just think... people here get to hug my cat by proxy).

I assume that if people want the title changed, I could edit that myself once I've thought of something?

I just popped some frozen white fish (I think sole) onto the frying pan, and it had shrunk to nearly a third of its original size by the time it was done. It was because of water leaving the fish (had to dump and refill the oil), but are they supposed to be like that? Never heard of a fish shrinking that much.
I've only had fresh whitefish, so I have no idea. :dunno:

But now I'm envious. It's been... about 25 years at least since I last had whitefish, probably closer to 30. My grandmother was really good at preparing it, and for some reason it annoyed her that I never wanted lemon juice on it. I told her that it was perfect as it was, but she wouldn't take a compliment. :(

I'm surprised that someone hasn't made a joke about the title yet.
In this case I'm pleased that nobody chose to excel in that activity. It's been nice to just get on with the thread.

I'll feel represented when it becomes XXL.
So... a 3000-post thread?

Traditionalist.

Speaking of which, does anyone have an actual question? We are in over a page here...
We did start off with "why?". I'll admit that covers a lot of ground, but it's a question that's too wide-open to rate its own thread.

Accepted. I took that more as a state of mind than an actual question, but it definitely was one in form if nothing else.

I can't seem to add a poll after the fact either, but no matter.

Are Dyson like heating/cooling fans worth the price?

I fully agree that this thread should be allowed to run off to 1.5k posts or even 2k. Exactly. moderators, please enforce this.

What would happen if someone with an autoimmune disorder also had HIV/AIDS?

You already wondered that before once ;).
Probably also what @Cutlass said.
AIDS hinders the communication between immune cells. If the rest of the immune cells go rogue, that would not prevent the damage they are doing.
I would guess there is a possibility that the development would be very slow, depending on the specific disease, but TBH I don't know enough about these diseases.

I have a random question, that might sound stupid, but google can't give me an answer:

Is it possible for a gaming company to lose money (I'm only talking about MMO's here) if an individual customer is a "no lifer" and just plays their game almost 24/7? The point I'm making is if they're on the server, they're using up data space for that one person, who is playing way more than what they expect from the average consumer.

In the same way it would be possible for an all you can eat buffet to lose money if someone eats a crap ton.

It would depend on how many people were doing it. Server space is pretty cheap, and MMOs have very large numbers of people participating. No one person matters. Statistically speaking, which is that no one person can make a dent in the size of what's going on that even registers. If enough people started doing it, they would have to raise their prices.

Yes, but you’re missing the point. Obviously, they can absorb the loss from one statical outliner as long as almost all of their other customers generate a comfortable net profit. Hence the buffet analogy.

My point, is is it possible for an individual to cost them more money than they generate from that one player because they’re a no lifer with nothing else to do. Of course they can easily absorb that loss in the grand scheme of things, but that isn’t what I’m asking.

In theory, sure. In practice, you'd have to know what their costs and profits are. So most likely not. The marginal cost of any one person on the system are so very very small that the fees the one person pays are pretty much certain to cover anything they can do.
