a fair number with good geographic distribution too, but i'm a student of IR, so it makes sense i suppose?

Managua, Port-au-Prince, Kingston, Caracas, Lima, Montevideo, Brussels, Bucharest, Helsinki, Monrovia, Algiers... you get the point, i guess

Too many to bother wasting my time typing. Here's a few I found interesting.

Spoiler :
Botswana - Gaborone. Before independence as Bechuanaland, their capital was Mafeking. The unusual thing was that Mafeking is in South Africa, not Botswana/Bechuanaland.

South Africa - Pretoria (administrative), Bloemfontein (judicial), and Cape Town (parliamentary.) That was done to appease the peoples in the different provinces, the Transvaal, Free State, and Cape, respectively. But what about Natal? They got cash.

Japan - Tokyo. I might be living here soon. :D

Why would you be living in Japan? I have to say you are lucky if you do. Would be the first place overseas to visit for me. But I would rather go to old Medieval Castle sight seeing than be bothered with the hustle and bustle of a busy city like Tokyo.

No cheating ... off the top of your head.
Y U NO MAEK THREAD 4 NON US MEMBARS!!!

This would take a long-ass time. I expect I don't remember a few in the Lesser Antilles, but outside of that I can school your country ass in terms of capitals, large cities, major geographical features, etc., because I'm the juggernaut a historyfag, [female dog]. Geography was what got me into history, chief.

I know them all but a few in Africa and some of the Caribbean and the Pacific islands. I think the only decent sized nations I can never seem to remember are Malawi and Burundi.

Everybody should know Bujumbura because of George of the Jungle and Gustave. Lilongwe sucks more and is less notable, I agree.

Unlike the U.S., there are more than 50 countries in the world (USA #1 :smug:), so I couldn't be arsed to type them all. I'll do a little though:

I think that's a pretty good amount. I know I know a bit more than that, it just seems like a lot of them were just on the tip of my tongue, and I just wasn't able to nail them down.

Legally, Switzerland doesn't have a capital. It's a confederation.

Turkey is Ankara, Saudi Arabia is Riyadh.

I know still know most of them because I was really bored in 6th grade geography. I don't think this has an ounce of usefulness though. I don't even know how to pronounce them properly.

Also, for me at least, there were several lesser known ones that all got mixed up in my head. *cough*Balkans*cough*

Japan's castles offer very few employment opportunities.

Yo, mang, French Guiana ain't a country, you misspelled "Leopoldville" "Kinshasa", and it's kinda debatable as to whether Jerusalem or Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel (it's probably most diplomatic to use Tel Aviv).
