What is with little kids (12 and younger) having Facebook accounts?

Your thoughts?

lol America is different. Facebook is an American company.

Plus the government says you have to be 13 or older to have an account on a website/server. Read COPPA.

I'm not arguing what the law saws. I'm simply pointing out that you will see a 12 year old in a high school. In countries that use facebook.

You'll never see a 12 year old as a student at high school. You won't see a 12 year old get pregnant.

I went to one of the best high schools in America, and I'm pretty sure that one of my good friends was 12 for the first month or so that she was in high school. And as others have said, the idea that people magically start getting pregnant at 13 is ridiculous.

Anyway you still haven't explained why either of these things represents a serious change in people. Freshmen in high school aren't really all that different from 8th graders, and I hope that your criterion for whether or not someone should have a facebook is something other than pregnancy...

I said you won't see one pregnant. Though sometimes it happens, like that 12 year old kid in Bulgaria who got raped by her dad.

Except I have.

Facebook used to have a de facto rule requiring you to be in college, but then everyone started lying about their age. Seriously, even my little brother has had one since he was like 17 years old. And his friend from school was talking about how he has one. My neighbor's kid has one and he's like 16. They don't even have social lives yet, they are not mature enough for the internet, let alone Facebook, what do you think?

You used to need a university email account to sign up to facebook, lying about your age wouldn't have helped...

Part of it IS a legal thing, that's been mentioned before but it worth mentioning again, sites really don't want to be liable to stalkers/whatever crime is around. And the US is sure heading in some awful directions regarding laws on the Internet/privacy/etc...

I wouldn't be surprised if more strict, 18-only policies started springing up on some sites on account of new "cyberbullying"/Big Brother laws pretty soon. People will still break/ignore the rules, but businesses or websites themselves will keep themselves legally out of trouble with such rules.

Doesnt the US have this law saying that under-13s cant register for things? Something like that.

Yes, that's the law.

Remember, we had to declare we were 13 or older when we joined CFC too.

Though, as I said, it is quite a stupid and arbitrary law, just liking the other ages of majorities.

I think that it gets a little ridiculous how young kids get facebooks. My friend's brother had one when he was 6 or 7. He didn't use it for much, though. I don't know that the law is defined as good or bad, but I do think that it is pointless for younger kids to have one.

I knew a couple of people just like this too

Little kids have friends too you know...

I voted yes, it's fine... I oppose virtually all age-limits and restrictions as a matter of principle.

Wait, 16 year olds don't have social lives??? HAH, you clearly had a pretty crap time as a teenager

Why is the reporter disguised as alcoholic small town appalachian bimbo?

I dunno... Maybe, just maybe, in some way, shape or form, she is one...

I believe the correct expression for this situation would be "the joke's on you".
