Literally squatter's rights, but for empty land. Millions of acres are just sitting around untouched by human hands

Naw, we need something more modern. Plus, oodles of that land is actually set aside intentionally. It's also not scalable. I'm pondering ways we could get the same benefits, but in a way that doesn't require ever-new lands to open up. Anyways, maybe I shouldn't have posted. I just look at homesteading, realizing that it was a one-off.

Moderator Action: I have already warned people about discussing posters, rather than their posts. Don't make us come in mod-handed, if only for your own sake.

Perhaps even more importantly, there was this theory that since an entire continent had "belonged to the king" and was now "unclaimed land" all a white USian had to do was stake a claim and they would own as much real estate as they could work.
The distribution of Western land was actually controlled by state and later the Federal government. Even the "get what you grab" policy of the later nineteenth century was really just a way of distributing pre-determined plots land without going through the big land companies that had dominated early settlement. It was really closer to something a some Latin American revolutionary would come up with than any lolbertarian "homesteading" theories.

Is there a point at which Sanders should start to worry about his mediocre poll numbers, and where is that point? Polls are relatively meaningless early on, but they do seem to indicate that a large proportion of the people who actually voted for Sanders last time are looking at other candidates now.

I was looking more at the distribution of eastern land, circa revolutionary war...since that was what was being discussed. Everything that had been built under the authority of a colonial governor that was technically "crown property allowed to be used under colonial license" suddenly turned into personal wealth... through the minor hurdle of a little mass bloodshed.

I've been trying to figure of a modern equivalent. Some way of tapping all the benefits, but in the reality. I'm still pondering

You're still pondering because you're deliberately ignoring the genocide and the land grab.

Nope and never. The absolute last thing Bernie should ever do again is support and make way for the anointed DNC candidate. This time he should not stand down or “worry”. It’s a miserable and infected party that needs disinfection, not unity, hugs and kisses - spreading the plague. Here’s the thing Cami – he doesn’t worry – you do – because unlike him you don’t have a moral high ground of already once standing aside and watch the rigged candidate have her ways. He made way for the disaster candidate last time and it ended in the misery you and other right wing DNC candidate supporters deserved.

Again, if Americans still want business as usual - they will let us know in the nomination race by going with Biden or Buttigeig or Harris. If Americans want change they will nominate Bernie. Should Bernie lose that race he can concede when it’s over. I also really hope he does not give whatever grinning fool the DNC greenlights any support after the race either. America needs a Biden as much or little as it needs Trump, which is not at all.

The primary power of the executive branch is running federal agencies. The Republicans gut them and/or fill them with industry stooges and the democrats fill them with professionals who do the job as intended.

The biggest difference is not the candidate but the party. Any candidate who would not support the party is out.

Biden is like a less autonomous version of Hillary. One would hope that people had realized from the 2016 election that more of the same dem party establishment figures won't deliver.
At least Obama was a figurehead for change. Is Biden a figurehead for change? Seriously? :)

Btw, i know that AOC cannot run in this election, but does the rule also prevent her from being vice-president in a ticket? (i suppose it does -?-)

If the American electoral system wasn’t completely rigged to only support two parties Bernie would be on the SocDem ticket. But you don’t have that do you?

So the solution is to give Republicans the greater edge if Democrats don't pick Bernie?

Doesn't matter if the candidate supports the party so long as their voters don't.

I'm not sold on party loyalty but at the same time Trump has got to go. I'm 100% behind Dems at the national level but I vote for socialists at the state and local level. I'd vote for them on the big stage but that would be a complete waste of vote.

Is not the world's current richest man the individual most responsible for our ability to order stuff online and have it in a day? But did he earn 150 billion dollars personally? While I agree with the sentiments, there are circumstantially-linked reasons for this wealth, and in their battle to change the circumstances, people need to beware of things happening which they did not intend. Who has a better performance record: Bezos or Maduro?

Bezos is about as instrumental as a clay brick in making mail-order an online service. My second job fresh out of uni was setting up supply chain and support processes for a warehouse and contact center supplying full back-end support to E-commerce sites. That was in 2001. As for your choice I’ll do you the honour of replying by selecting Maduro every time and twice on a Sunday. It’s an uncomfortable choice - not a hard one.

For social democrats - yes.

Edit: @Hygro
There was a major gun control law that came up in the California ballot 40 years ago. My mother remembers the Quaker church she and my father married at were telling constituents to vote against it because it wasn't strict enough. Hold out for a better law.

The bill failed, gun control was deemed unpopular and didn't come up on the ballot in any big ways for decades.

Cool story bro. Your parents church were correct in their action. Why weasel support for that which you do not believe to be better than status quo? They may have been wrong on the issue – I don’t know? Do you?

I want to nationalize healthcare and abolish health insurance entirely - does that mean I shouldn't vote for Warren or Harris if they win the nomination?

No. Any progress is better than none. Universal Basic Income might be life support for capitalism to placate the masses and keep socialism away, but I'd still support it because it's better than the status quo.

No you should vote you conscience. Just like Hygro did when voting for Hillary last election. What you should not do is expect Bernie supporters to be loyal to the party that betrayed him and continuously betray the American people with their lies and deceit.

Not voting your conscience is in many cases not the same as voting against your conscience.
There are grey shades, there are steps in between to get where you want to go.
Especially when just individualistic voting your own conscience, will keep your side of similar thinking fellows eternally divided.
