ok, some freinds of mine and i came up with the idea of createing a mod based on frank herberts dune books, im pretty sure we can accomplish the editing, map creation, etc..., but im no good at unit animations, leader heads, graphics creation in general, lol. if someone would like to help out by doing the animations and graphics for new wonders, improvements, units, etc..., please e-mail me, you would get FULL credit for your work...but seriously, could you imagine storming across the funeral plains of arrackis with a full legion of sardukar?, freman warriors on the dunes only a few miles away?, some riding on Makers( sand-worms)?...i can... :D :goodjob:

Make the map???Wait a minute...The terrain on Dune is as follows:
Mesa
Mountain
Flat Desert
Erg
Small Ice Cap
Basin
small patches of shrubbery

I would like to contribute, but unfortunately, I can only provide ideas....I just got done reading the book, so if you want, you could ask me for assistance when it comes to ideas of the units/ tech tree/ civs... I have an idea for the orinthopter...Piernik's Speed-O-Copter...You have one unit there!:D

I'd help, but I've got a Peloponnesian War scenario to make, plus more of some of the major parts in Greek history, and a chinese scenario...I'm backed up!:( Good luck!:goodjob:

I've already begun modding a Dune Mod

Visit this thread for further informations :
Dune Thread

But due to the lack of help / support I've got, I have let it in Stand by...

And then, I'm focusing on my GLC Mod yet

Amenhotep, id could really use a list of the variuos houses, and a breif description of them, if possible.

ive already got ideas on how to handle the bene-jezerat, and the sardukar, im just gonna treat them as wonders, or as a trade only tech, irrigation of arakis will only be possible in the 3rd or 4th age with the discovery of water reclamation, etc...i dont wanna give everything away yet, lol. but, if i can get some gfx done, it should prove a very challenging, and playable mod pack.

Supa, actually, we hope to follow through ALL the books, doing them as the ages, i.e. the second or 3rd age would cover the reign of paul atreiades, etc...but its still in its "idea" stage until i can get some help on the gfx, or get a copy of poser, lol

i personaly havent read the books, but ive been bombarded by info from my freinds (who i might add, are dune fanatics), that i think i may never need to read them, lmao! and dont worry, i dont think id survive if i strayed away from the books, lol. but i am a very big fan of the movies, series, and the games that have been made, if i can get things together for this, it will be a long standing project, one id like to keep updated, and if at all possible, playable, if it looses playability, its not worth doing, right?

still looking for graphix help on this people, any help is/ would be GREATLY appreciated!

Exactly what do you need to know about the houses???

Civ list:
House Atreides
Fremen
Padishah Emperor IV
House Harkonnen
Smugglers

Hope this helps!;)

The Honored Matres 'civ' doesn't exist before the end of the Leto II's reign.

For the Guild.. They have a great power, but they're just 'drivers'.

Ix could be a nice addition.

actually, i was thinking about useing the telaxu as a house, as well as the ix, the guild will be done as a great wonder that will produce a guild ship every so many turns, which can be done on the conquest editor, giving whoever builds it, a severe advantage, as the guild ships will serve as a air transport unit with a VERY high mobility, i prefer this idea over putting a spaceport in every city.
this mod will show no mercy to any civ controled by the player, as there will also be worms to deal with, lol. i think this will best stress the level of warfare acheived on arakis. these will be treated as the barbarian advanced unit. but, ive already got LOTS of ideas for UU's, I JUST NEED GRAPHIXS!!!

oh by the way, the freman WILL be a house.:D

For the map, it would be nice to get a better look at the surface of Arrakis. All I've been able to see is the simple hand-drawn one in the back of the book. It'd be necessary to set it so that building could not be done in the desert, but that should be a given. Also, Was thinking, is it possible to use a trade resources (spice) as a financial base. The Spice Melange is necessary for just about everything in the galaxy, so... Also, another thing would be the keeping of units in the sand. Nevermind the Makers, one also has to watch out for the Coriolis winds on that planet as well. Just some thoughts.

yea padre', a map would be nice, if anyone has, or could find one, that is. spice can be set as the default money resoucre too

Some gfx could be taken from the various Dune games.
I'll try to make an advisor from Dune 1 (Cryo).
Dune 2k could be a source for terrains and perhaps for a few units.

See, the problem is...

There were no tanks or anythign used in the books. The battle for Arrakis was, and always will be an infantry battle. Tanks vibrate to sand so much a maker is sure to come looking.

That and the Harkonnen used artillery in the first battle only because Baron Harkonnen knew the Atriedes would bolt for the caves. They used artillery to seal the said caves, trapping the Atreides army inside.

Also, another thought that just struck me, the use of nukes.

The great convention against Atomics is still in effect. Yes, the houses still keep stashes of what they called the "Family Atomics", but even the Emperor wouldn't use them.

How about this? Setting a condition that would cause the deployment of any atomic weapon to force all other civs on the map to immediatly declare war on the offending house, using all avalible might to do so. Is that possible?

This also permits having the weapons, and even using them, IF you're strong enough to defend yourself from a multi-force attack.

Long live the fighters of Muad'Dib!:nuke: :egypt:

Indeed, there are nothing such as tanks.
The worm animation still could be taken. The air-units too (damn, I only know the french name, but here's a attempt : Ornithopter and Air-carrier)
The infantry couldn't be taken from the game. Too small, too ugly.

As for the nuke, I couldn't tell. I don't think ALL civ would become allies to go in war against one. Anyways, the use of nuke should be restricted (high cost).

Azazel, what have you already done/decided ? Satisfy my curiosity, please. :)

xen, i think you and me are on the same wave-length on this, there should be mulitple houses for this, upto 31, if possible, and some of the wonder ideas you have, ive already thought of, lol, i really appreciate everyones input and help. i really cant wait to get some GFX for this (hint, hint), as this will most definantly be very kool.

padre', if you use "atomics", generaly, other civs will declare war, guess they think its an all or nothing thing at that point, lol, or they're just glad someone finnally used them, lol

supa, are the gfx from emporer compatible with c3c?, ill check on this too, would save alot of work

ok, what ive decided on so far...worm-riders will definantly be a feature, tanks too, but they will be produced by a wonder every x number of turns, i agree with padre, this will be a foot soldiers war, but tanks and artillary will play there part, as well as some high speed ground units, the worm riders will serve as the freman answer to harkonnen tanks (hehe), and still debateing this, but there may even be a bene-jezerat scout unit, low att/def, but high visiblity, and invisible.

this will be my first full-scale mod, so i want to take my time with this, so it gets done right, at this point, nothings really been started, want to wait till i can get some gfx to start the units, and possiblely new terrian gfx too.

> supa, are the gfx from emporer compatible with c3c?, ill check on this too, would save alot of work.

I don't think so. Emperor : Battle for Dune is a full 3D game. I've never played but I don't think we could take a lot from it.

The game I was talking about, Dune 2000 (Westwood), could be a source for terrain. But it would require some tweaking as the point of view is not the same as Civ3.

As you include the tanks, they should be have some heavy move restriction on sand.

Supa...re: As you include the tanks, they should be have some heavy move restriction on sand.

my thoughts exactly, lol

i was thinking a movement rate of, att/def, will be the same as the modern armor. terrian will compensate even further in general movement cost.

you think a re-coloring of the modern armor would suffice for the tanks? i have dune 2000, but for ps1, lol, so it wont help on my end, lol

Better than nothing, I guess :)
I've got Dune 2k.. At least, I think I've still got it. But I've never done an unit conversion and it seems a such pain in ass. Perhaps if there is a good tool for C&C-like game, I would give a try. Anyone know about one ?
