This has been predicted since the UK failed to get a judge appointed to the UN court.

The UK is an Atlantic nation, so holding on to a pointless claim in the Indian Ocean
was all nonsense anyway; the UK should have forgotten about them after the cold war

ended, in the 1990s, the UK has merely been fronting for the USA base at Diego Garcia.
Yeah, this gives us the choice of raising the finger to either the UN or the USA. A great choice to be having ATM.

Labour is to back an amendment for a second referendum.

When is the magical-solve-it second ref to take place? With no options agreed, cause why bother, right?
Lol, i suppose this was already discussed with the eu country.

@Kyriakos I would assume June or July at the earliest. Which would mean we are in the EU until the late Autumn, if we are granted an extension and would have to hold EU elections.

What do you mean "if"? Surely you only have to ask, that is what the ecj #3 rephrase will connote. :p four refs good, two refs also good if the result is remain. Eumal farm.

@Kyriakos You have to bring Blair into everything.

The ECJ ruling gave the UK the right to unilaterally withdraw the artical 50 notice if we were staying not to hold a referendum. But it is likely they would allow us to hold a third referendum because tripods are stable.

This is just more of stupid...

A referendum by now will require an extension. An extension requires not only the Westminster manages to agree on it, but also that the EU accepts it. For the EU to accept it there might be some concessions required and it also requires that everyone agrees on the length of such an extension!

And if the extension is granted, the different choices in the referendum must be decided on – and also the number of choices!

In fact, some requirements for those choices might be a requirement for any side to approve of the extension, so then the referendum must also be fought out before an extension can be agreed on!

Emily Thornberry, Labour has just said on BBC radio 4 that the question will most likley be the May deal or Remain.

Yeah, I can imagine the ERG are already up in arms. They won't accept Remain as an option, but can perhaps concede to a referendum between May's Deal and No Deal...

Well not many outside the ERG want no deal. The question will be how many MPs will vote for no deal to avoid remain.
Who knows what is going to happen' the hedge funds must be rubbing their hands.

Apparently the EU is already thinking about this. Whilst the Cabinet is discussing a 2 month extension the EU are worried that will then be followed by another request for another short extension so they're thinking of a slightly longer period.

The Brexiteers will just love that.

I still see this as the gave to burn time and just exit. The postponements, now the resurrection of the referendum idea... it won't serve as an excuse to postpone, it would take too long by now.

But I also believe that several important EU countries are fearful of a hard brexit and the possible economic consequences. The game of chicken continues...

If you were to hold EU parliament elections, you'd have had already to start the process of preparing those elections. There are dates and the date for presenting the list of constituencies is now past.

Whatever happens, doing anything other than a hard brexit or May's deal will require breaking the rules of the EU on a number of things already.
They're quite capable of breaking rules, in fact the EU seems to be making things up on the go in each crisis despite all the usual legalistic claims to the contrary. It just depends on how desperate governments are, and which governments are desperate.

Last night a confidential meeting was held between 23 Tory dissidents.
15 Ministers are now ready to leave the Cabinet unless May excludes no-deal.

A spicy starter for today and especially tomorrow when the votings take place on some amendments.
Let's see if the Rees-Mogg group and the DUP fold by rescueing the FTA direction of the current May deal.
The risks, for them, on extending the Art 50 period and then the risks of a Customs Union a la Corbyn, or even Remain are increasing.
