England = 10-3=7 - Redcoat? Fine. Victoria? Fine. Her agenda? Annoying, but ok. But abilities? No. Pax Britannica is maybe ok, but Brittish Museum doesn't say much about England. Neither Sea Dog does.

I'm going to step off my England grind for one second to take a swing at someone new. Or rather, someone really, really, REALLY old. Egypt's tile improvement makes no sense whatsoever, since there was only one Great Sphinx and a bunch of small scale statues that were typically just decorations for larger and more impressive buildings so either this should have been a world wonder or they should have the buildings the sphinx statues were located on (though since the tile is one giant sphinx I presume they are talking about the Great Sphix, which again there is only one of so how exactly is it a tile improvement if there is only a single example in the ENTIRE empire?) Why not make the tile improvements an obelisk since they actually did have plenty of those scattered around? Next I'd like to harp on Egypt's ability, which goes against the history of the side it's trying to mimic. You're encouraged to build districts and wonders on the flood plains rather than farms which is the exact opposite of what Egypt was known for as without those floodplain farms the empire could not exist as they'd all have starved. Cleopatra... no. And also her agenda is nonsense as Octavian (later to be known as Augustus) had the bigger army but Cleopatra wanted Marc Antony and even when bolstering his forces with Egyptian troops still was just about equal to Octavian. Even if we ignore that it's just a dumb agenda, why would a trade focused builder civilization care about how big your army is? A bigger army just means you're more likely to roll in and conquer Egypt to take its wonders and districts for yourself, which IS historically accurate but I'm pretty sure the Egyptians were less than happy about that. The War Chariot is fine if a little bland.

While I really don't like Arabia's abilities from a game design perspective and find them lazy they are all thematically appropriate. The Mamluk is a nice change of pace from the camel archer and is more relevant historically, and the madrassa is a nice touch and a reminder of Arabia's glory days. All around it's quite thematic even if I don't like how it translates to gameplay.

America = 23
Arabia = 23
Australia = (15+1)=16 Based on what little I known of post-contact Australian history, it seems like Firaxis represented them fair enough.

Scythia = (8-3)=5 Once again, I think this is a generic Central Asian horse archer civ chosen primarily for the female leader, plus the use of Russian names in the City-list, eugh! Imagine the Minoans, Harappans, Olmecs, and Mississippians being made into Civs...I guess they don't have the female leader though...

-3 to Brazil. Lets rename this civ "Maya" and see how Brazils bonuses fit.
Civ Ability - Rainforest tiles provide an adjacency bonus for campus, commercial hub, holy site and theatre square districts. +1 housing for neighbourhoods adjacent to rainforest tiles. This would fit the Maya perfectly.
Leader Ability - 20% refund on the cost of great people. This would fit the Maya well.
UD - Production into amenities and great person points. This would fit the Maya perfectly (May be applied to a different building/district)
UU - Clearly does not fit the Maya in any way.
So basically they came pretty close to (imo) designing the perfect Maya civ and named it Brazil.
I associate Brazil with the deforestation of the Amazon, I think they should get a rainforest harvesting bonus, not be (strongly) encouraged to keep such tiles. I also think given their history competing with Argentina for influence over South America that Brazil would be a candidate for city state related bonuses too.

+1 to America. Tough choice between them, Arabia, Aztecs, Rome and Spain. I always pick a random civ and when I random America that is when I am most exicted. I'm actually planning a trip next year to the US and hoping to road trip down the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains to go to a bunch of the national parks actually. A refreshing take on a staple civ from the series.

Australia = 14
Aztec = 22
Brazil =10 (13 - 3)
China = 12
Egypt = 12
England = 8
Germany = 18
Greece =16
India = 17 (16 + 1) Probably the most interesting unique improvement in the game, enabling early tall play and adding a new set of considerations to city planning (through its interactions with farms and holy sites). And high population cities fit perfectly with the goal of having followers of as many religions as possible.
Japan = 24
Kongo = 11
Macedon = 8
Persia = 8
Poland = 15
Rome = 22
Russia = 22
Scythia = 2 (5 - 3) A civ with a lot of potential, but all of its potential nuances of gameplay and flavor are overshadowed by overpowered horse archer rushes.
Spain = 16

America = 25 (24 + 1) America's design is solid. It stumbles a bit when taken in context of gameplay balance (the continent combat bonus makes them one of the best ancient era conquerors), but that isn't the purpose of this thread.
Arabia = 23
Australia = 14
Aztec = 22
Brazil =10
China = 12
Egypt = 9 (12 - 3) I think Returning Lurker nailed it above. The Great Sphinx is a wonder, not an improvement, Cleopatra is a terrible choice (if they really wanted a female leader, why not Hatshepsut, the first ever female leader?) mismatched agenda/civ gameplay and the LA fights against history. It seems like Firaxis wanted either a wonder bonus or a floodplain bonus, couldn't decide and merged them at the last minute.

Arabia = 23
Australia = 15 (14 + 1) Yes, yes, there could have been better civilizations to release at this time, we all know. However, this is about the depiction of the civilizations, not the timing of their release. I think their take on Australia is great. The UA and UB are unique but not stereotypical and the use of the didgeridoo in the music is a good way to incorporate the Aboriginal Australians--though they could have been better in that regard.

India = 14 (17 - 3) I am so sick and tired of Gandhi. India has 5,000 years of history and they couldn't pick ANYONE else? The only thing that annoys me more is the fact that nobody can seem to spell Gandhi's name right on any other website. If I see "Ghandi" again I'm going to nuke myself.

Brazil =7 (10 - 3) I never liked working with rainforest, dont like it now also entertainment complex i never need to use, let alone the canival.
China = 12
Egypt = 9
England = 8
Germany = 19 (18+1) I really like how Germany is portrait as the industrial powerhouse like they are. I also like the extra district allowed. I dont like however the leader choice as a more recent leader would be more appropriate since Germany as an insdustrial powerhouse is modern era.

England = 5 (8-3) I wish they would chose another thematic point around which to build the civ from the long history of England instead of always the Empire. It's getting boring. And Victoria is probably the most overrated ruler the Empire ever had anyway, there's so much cult about her, that the real thing gets lost in all that. Comparable to her contemporary Franz Jospeh I. of Austria, just that he was not the 'monster' Victoria was. Her depiction in Civ VI, while historically not bad for young Victoria, just helps this cult. Barbarossa would be a similar case as well, but at least there is something new here for Germany.

Scythia = 2
Spain = 16 How can this be so low? Except maybe for Russia and Arabia, no other civ seems nearly that accurate modeled and presented.

Just noticed that France is missing from the page 1 scoreboard, it should be Norway, France, and then Sumer.
Thank you, I corrected it !

America = 25
Arabia = 23
Australia = 15
Aztec = 22
Brazil =7
China = 12
Egypt = 9
England = 5
Germany = 19 + 1 = 20 They're really well done, just would like the reference to its huge XVIIIth, XIXth and XXth century culture.
Greece =16
India = 14
Japan = 24
Kongo = 11
Macedon = 8
Persia = 8
Poland = 15
Rome = 22
Russia = 22
Scythia = 2 - 3 = -2 Eliminated Not that they're badly depicted (except for those city names), but they were really not a priority, they should have added the most important horse civ (mongols) instead of adding the secondaries before.
Spain = 16

Just noticed, England should be on 6 and Macedon on 5. Here are the correct scores:

America = 25
Arabia = 23
Australia = 15
Aztec = 22
Brazil =7
China = 12
Egypt = 9
England = 6
Germany = 20
Greece =16
India = 14
Japan = 24
Kongo = 11
Macedon = 5
Persia = 8
Poland = 15
Rome = 22
Russia = 22
Spain = 16

America = 25
Arabia = 23
Australia = 15
Aztec = 22
Brazil =7
China = 12
Egypt = 9
England = 6 - 3 = 3 Same explanation from my previous post, British Museums is a very limited way of representing England
Germany = 20
Greece =16
India = 14
Japan = 24
Kongo = 11
Macedon = 5
Persia = 8
Poland = 15
Rome = 22
Russia = 22
Spain = 16 + 1 = 17 In my opinion, very consistent with what Spain was in its history.
