13 cases today and it seems they're breaking the transmission chains.

Day one of school reopening.

Wouldn't it be wiser to postpone school reopening until it was completely squashed? Or are those imported cases?

How is that turning out?
Good!

Moderna: Today, we shared positive pre-clinical data demonstrating our ability to combine 6 mRNAs against 3 different respiratory viruses in 1 vaccine: COVID-19 booster + Flu booster + RSV booster. #mRNA
How is the alternative medicine regime turning out? Have the shamans perfected the thistle and rosewood potion?

It turns out they were on to something.

bioRxiv posts many COVID19-related papers. A reminder: they have not been formally peer-reviewed and should not guide health-related behavior or be reported in the press as conclusive.

This article is a preprint and has not been certified by peer review

It's literally on the front page of this preprint website that these papers have NOT been peer-reviewed. The faulty Ivermicten study was also a preprint but then was pulled for straight up making up data. Do you have a single pre-reviewed study? The vaccines do.

And right at the bottom it says

could provide a cost-effective therapy to help stave off the rapid global spread of these variants, buying time for broader implementation of vaccines.

If you have access to the vaccine, you don't need to be taking other stuff.

And if there is a reasonable scientific case, it will be tested. There are still lots of people in Ivermectin trials. But it should not be at the expense of taking the vaccines, which actually work. You are defending a nonsense position. People who have taken Ivermectin instead of the vaccine are dead. Multiple people who listened to your moronic IDW crap.

Anyway, Biden finally doing a broad mandate.

https://www.businessinsider.com.au/...ccines-2021-9?utm_source=reddit.com&r=US&IR=T

The Biden administration will require employers with more than 100 employees to mandate vaccines or weekly testing, a move that will impact over 80 million workers, according to CBS News.

The president is expected to make the announcement on Thursday.

The administration will also enforce fines up to $US14,000 ($AU19,004) per violation for employers that don’t implement a vaccine or weekly testing mandate, according to The Washington Post.

Right-wing media is of course shitting itself since its stance is now Pro-Death.

This one I love. A minor conservative figure realising that the Fox News people are talking up the anti-vaxxer stuff, but are all themselves vaccinated.

If you aren't vaccinated, you are the mark.

Look for african stats on deaths perhaps? They have medics in thee, did you know, not just shamans. In any case you are missing my point, which was about the denigrating of anything except a single line of intervention, a single choice: vaccinate and live with the virus.

If you want to see how alternative medicine for the pandemic was successful, look to China of New Zealand. Medicine, as we should know from the great triumphs against disease from the 19th century onward, includes more than medications (or vaccines). It is about public health policies. Good housing and public spaces - it was known that ventilation was important, but that knowledge was apparently "lost"? The shamans of energy efficiency overruled it.
The vaccines too have been used in some acts of shamanism: they have been used as a justification to enact a policy of dying ("living") with the virus. Because the talisman (vaccine) will protect you.
So who are the shamans, really?

Population is much younger compared to the West, and fewer elderly and/or obese people who are at the biggest risk. Why should I be surprised that they have a lower rate of fatal cases? There is no mystery to solve here.

Just don’t look at the Wuhan virus lab where nothing has happened, ever!

Edit!
I do wish to add too that I’ve never said “live with the virus.” The vaccines are a tool, not the only tool. I think, with respect, I’ve been clear about this.

As it turns out a lot of these studies from less advanced countries get removed during peer review
Slight effect side effects are probably expected to be honest.

Fact Check: Does Ivermectin Cause Sterility in 85 Percent Of Men?
An old study supposedly reporting that ivermectin — already in the headlines — causes sterility in 85 percent of men has gained traction online this month
2011 reporting 85 percent of Nigerian men being treated for river blindness with ivermectin were at least partially sterilized.
The 2011 study also lacks any acknowledgment of its limitations, usually a bad sign for a medical paper, and lacked a control group.
2008 study on its effects on infertility in the peer-reviewed Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology reports “slight effects” of ivermectin alone on rats

There was no "alternative medicine" involved in China. It has been all about locking down, mandatory testing and contract tracing, and quarantines. They will continue to be fine as long as they can control their borders and entry. Their problem will be when they try to open up again. They might well be locked behind a wall of their own making. We'll see.

BionTech expects to be ready in October to give the 5-12 year old group vaccins.

https://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft...wochen-a-1c02cb48-dd17-4cab-953f-0d437d49707a

As early as mid-October, the first children under the age of twelve in Germany could be vaccinated with the vaccine from Biontech.

"In the coming weeks we will present the results of our study on the five to eleven year olds worldwide to the authorities and apply for approval of the vaccine for this age group, including here in Europe," Biontech chief physician Özlem Türeci told SPIEGEL. “We're already preparing for production. The vaccine is the same, but less dosed and there is less need to fill up. "

And a fair bit late, this entire mess could have been stopped there had they not tried to sweep it under the carpet and locked it down as soon as discovered.

Something all too easily forgotten by the 'look at China' crowd :)

But likewise, it's impossible to deny there has also been unfair or outright hypocritical criticism that is rooted (at least in part) in racism.

It's a complicated situation. It's easy to say with the benefit of hindsight "if they'd just locked down more we might be in a better position globally". It's hard to expect any country would've done so, had it originated elsewhere. And yes, as red_elk has just pointed out, other countries did much worse despite coming to the situation with more forewarning and knowledge of the virus.

The wall seems to suit the government just fine. Now that they've tasted it, they're strengthening it.

Stupid health decisions, you claim?

Remember far back when covid showed up, a year ago the crazy savages in Africa and their herbal teas?

It turns out they were on to something.

Nope, I don't remember that. Is this actually a response to something you can show from back then, or are you just desperate enough for an "I told you so" to try and create one retroactively?

The paper linked, for what it's worth, is a study of a South East Asian herbal tea (not African, but what's a continent when it comes to accuracy). They report activity against Covid, at active ingredient concentrations far too high to be of any clinical relevance. Against most Covid strains, it's an even weaker effect than was seen in the in vitro studies with Ivermectin. At least the authors of the Ivermectin study noted the problem that you'd need concentrations far beyond what is safe, or even achievable, in vivo to be in the range that would effect the virus. This preprint hasn't been peer reviewed yet, so hopefully a reviewer will make the authors of this artemisinin paper address that point.

In the long term, vaccines are the only tool which we know about right now. And I do not have much how that this will change.

Yes, but they will have to open up again. Economic and travel isolation is not a solution.

To what?

Yeah I’m speculating, but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn “vaccine-hesitancy” (stupidity) is close to non-existent in China. This would lead to China probably being in much better shape than us once they do re-open.
