There is an episode of Blacklist in which a bad guy infects 20 people with a airborne killer virus and sends them on 20 different flights to cities worldwide. Their plan was to wipeout humankind to save the planet. The virus is contained in NYC and on the planes. Police tape cordoned off a few blocks of NY and saved the city and the perps had made a vaccine for themselves which our heroes found in time.

Too bad Red didn't have friends in wuhan :mischief:

The US just crested above 2000 deaths a day, again. 8 states have daily death rates above 1 out of 100,000, with Florida still the highest at 1.64/100,000. Case numbers falling a bit in the Deep South but rising by smaller degrees elsewhere.

The US is having more deaths per day than Australia is having cases per day.

I can’t muster up the energy for yet another tirade. I’m tired from tirades!

I’m going to half-hiney this one: blah blah blah, civil rights and compulsory vaccinations what’s the deal hey go look at history we’ve had ‘em before. Constitutional government good, law and order important, what would Ike do.

I mean jeez, how hard is it to get two shots and shut the hell up and stay out of a crowded restaurant for a couple weeks? The world will still be here.

I’m just going to play my game and occupy my mind with virtual trains, toot toot.

That is true, I was under the impression that they don't affect the chance to become a carrier of the disease.

The more Covid "MUTATES" the less effective our current vaccines are becoming.
Delta strain which is a mutation of Covid19 is far more infectious and lethal.
Mu strain which is another mutation of Covid 19 is even more infectious

Facts have a Liberal bias
NOTICE WHAT WAS EDITED OUT ?

Take vaccine if advised by doctors or the head of the CDC
Do not take vaccine if advised by Trump

It can still be a stupid statement even with those added caveats. How many people opted not to take one because they wouldn't trust a "Trump vaccine?"

I really do think the pro-choice people have given up a lot of high-ground for very little on this one. The threshold for violating bodily integrity and medical privacy turned out to be very low. The vaccine isn't being redesigned for Delta, it's just being pressured over and over. There's no ongoing science to answer the best concerns, systemically. The vaccine won't provide herd immunity, it just slows spread. Half my feed is pressuring the vaccine to be approved for kids instead of hoping it meets minimum standards. All of this to prevent a self-inflicted injury. There will be other victims, obviously, but it's a dilemma and the ratio is overwhelming. We're also the society that chooses to not go the extra mile to alleviate the tension by improving the quality of the product we're pressuring people to take, so the blame is spread more than people realize. When the vaccine is available to kids, it won't have crossed reasonable thresholds of evidence, so now we have more social tension when we should have less.

In Alberta, we're currently under a right-wing government. In some ways we're 'lucky' that our left-wing government fell before the pandemic. We'd be having riots right now if a left-wing government was being forced to deal with a pandemic using the tools they would have chosen.

By simple bad luck for analogies, all of the good analogies for protecting choice involve forcing women to do things, so there is no way to make comparisons without people having their brains stymied with dissonance hunting for "that's different". But that dissonance erodes the fundaments of being pro-choice, because it means that it wasn't a foundation but an excuse. I dunno, it reminds me of White Feather Girls ignoring the calls of left-handed boys that rifles should be ambidextrous. Obviously, that's a clear case where R&D should solve a reasonable concern, but I'm months into not having a good set of biodistribution data. And there's literally no need for that.

Actually some news about someone updating the vaccine to these terrible new strands would be... nice.

Heterologous priming with the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vector vaccine followed by boosting with a messenger RNA vaccine (BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273) is currently recommended in Germany, although data on immunogenicity and reactogenicity are not available. In this observational study we show that, in healthy adult individuals (n = 96), the heterologous vaccine regimen induced spike-specific IgG, neutralizing antibodies and spike-specific CD4 T cells, the levels of which which were significantly higher than after homologous vector vaccine boost (n = 55) and higher or comparable in magnitude to homologous mRNA vaccine regimens (n = 62).

So mix-n-match for this vaccine combos (first AZ, then BionTech/Moderna) seems to work.
EDIT: There are some differences, some better, some worse, if you read the rest of the abstract or also this https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01449-9 .

EDIT2: And a summary news item from Nature Medicine, https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01463-x .

You would take a Vaccine that Trump says to take. but the CDC and doctors say not to take ?
Trump told Americans to inject disinfectant and take Hydroxychloroquin while the CDC and Doctors say NOT to.

I've been wondering if our boosters should become from a cheaper version of the vaccine. That would really smooth out supply lines.

I don't think we're laying the social groundwork for the time when the infectious vaccinated outnumber the infectious unvaccinated.

Was that the question asked in the debate?

Would you take a vaccine that the doctors and CDC say not to take but:
  1. Kamala Harris
  2. Mike Pence
  3. Joe Biden
says to take? The answers to all three are (seemingly) obvious, and the same as your question, and changing the variable doesn’t change my answer.
