Do changing avatars confuse you?

It's a habit I acquired on another forum. Some people had a tendency to make animated avatars which could be a little hard on folk susceptible to migraines.

Amen to that. Slows loading time, too.

6kb avatars don't slow anybody's loading time by a meaningful degree, not even if they're still on dialup.

Generally speaking, I use my cell phone and they slow loading time (or seem to).

The banner ads probably slow loading time by much more than any avatar would.

I would be willing to bet that nobody here remembers my first avatar after I had enough time/posts to choose a custom one.

I wholeheartedly agree. For that reason, I try to keep my avatar changes as minimal as possible. And get mad when others don't abide by the same creed.
So where is yours which is now conspicuously absent?

I've only switched once since being on OT (I used to use George Washington from Civ4 when I signed up, switched to a bird for a little while, now I use a Shepard Fairey). May change it if I feel like it.

I'm usually confused for a couple days until I get used to associating the person with the new avatar. I'd compare changing an avatar to dying your hair rather than getting plastic surgery, I get used to it soon enough.

Usually I get used to avatar changes after a couple of days, although I remember vaguely that when Defiant47 changed his avatar away from Rommel I forgot who he was for a while.

The Shuckle Brothers however are very confusing.

The earliest avatar I can recall you using was a sort of ankh symbol, was it that?

The name is right above the avatar. I don't see a problem.

I rarely change my avatar in part because I like to be able to scan down the page and easily pick out my last posts. People who have a quickly recognizable one and don't change it are easier to find and pick out than reading the username.

I remember a potato on a bicycle. But you've been registered here a lot longer than I have.

I'm not allowed to use a custom avatar yet, so I'm stuck with a generic ICBM from CIV. Being a guy who wants to build rockets, I'll prolly switch to another pic of a rocket when I'm allowed. I may switch up but it's the same theme.

I haven't been around long enough to know anyone by anything but their avatars.:)

Does anybody remember what my first non-default avatar was? I know I do, but I'm curious if anyone else remembers.

Anyway, I like changing my avatars. It feels 'refreshing'. It also gives me a chance to display old TV shows and movies that shouldn't be forgotten. :D

It would be fun if someone made a "Guess the User by Old Avatar" game.
I'd like that!

I remember an avatar of yours......... kinda. Obviously it had cats in it, I think it had dark colors.... but the rest is a blur.

I think this was my first avatar:

My first non-default was the Minesweeper one.
