Limits in Civ (buildings / Res/ tech

well i know there are limits of max amount of them but how many?

max city improvements are 256?

in res there is a great threat bout that and how to get them working right.

how many techs are max possible to add in game?

how many units?

hm did i missed anything?
 
- 256 Buildings
- Resources: no known limit
- Techs: no known limit
- Units: no known limit (my mod has over 2100, Steph's has even more)
 
For units, one has to distinguish:

a) Types of units: No limit known, as Ares posted

b) Number of units that can appear in a game at the same time for C3C: 8192

This border is known as the "MUA" (maximum units allowed) and can be patched by a hack posted by Knuckles.
 
My old mod from 2004 had 107 resources. I am updating it, and it now has 166 resources. :)
 
Should be clear on resources here - look for the ghost resource bug. To prevent that, no more than 32 strat or lux resources can be used. Bonus resources are unlimited. Plenty of detailed threads on this.

I am pretty sure 256 buildings in the editor.
 
does that mean not more than 256 entries in the editor OR not more than 256 BLDG entries in the Pedia and so on... ?

Once you hit 256 entries in the editor, it won't allow any more. I see where you're coming from though - it would have been nice to have had 256 BLDG entries in the civilopedia and double up on some in the editor, but it doesn't work that way. Sorry!
 
256 resources registered in the editor is the limit. Having 257 resources, the mod/scenario just won't be loaded - it'll stuck in ~80% of loading ("Configuring scenario..." progress bar) and won't do anything else (fully loaded, my mod allocates 172 MB and when loading is stuck it's 154, that's why I'm saying "cannot be loaded'). I tried with the clean (the case was to check whether the map can't support 256+ resources) map and 257 resources - no success, mod cannot be loaded. Not sure Dr Knuckles may help here - it looks like the same limit as buildings number limit. Knowing about the great idea from Civinator about correct cities names & locations - it's a warning for him as well. Quick solution - to find the map designed to contain ~180-200 cities, so there'll be a room for strat/lux/bonus. Yoda Power created such a map

Yep, Timerover. Really frustrating me (talking about resources) as the brilliant idea by Civinator can't be implemented on the world map of reasonable size. Tried Giant Earth (by Yoda) yesterday - it may contain ~400 cities, so it's impossible to label them correctly with names - some of them should be skipped since there may be 200 names-resources only (some room should be left for lux & strat). :( Why Firaxis didn't extend limits with the Complete version - we have much more powerful computers today.

Just to clarify this, do you mean that there is a limit of 256 on total entries to the editor or 256 entries in each area of resources, units, buildings, and also city names? And if there is a limit of 256 on city names, is that for each civilization or is that total city names for all civilizations? I assume that it is for each civilization.

I have discovered also that there is a hard-coded requirement for there to be EXACTLY 76 entries in the Barbarian tribes listing. I have been working on that to get more realistic Barbarians names for some maps, one of them being the Age of Discovery(World Map), as having the Assyrians or Minoans show up as a Barbarian tribe in the US just bugs me.

Am I correct though, that the greatest source of irritation with respect to limits is the one on 32 combined strategic and luxury resources? I know that is the one the causes me the most trouble.

256 resources (strat + lux + bonus) entries is the limit - this is what darkened my Sunday. And I reported it on Monday.
