I captured a city which has pillaged fishing boats. I can neither build fishing boats myself there nor repair it. I do have Sailing, the requirement for it. Any idea?

How have you tried to repair the pillaged fishing boats? Unlike pillaged districts, pillaged tile improvements require a builder. If you send a builder to that tile, the builder's upper row of actions should include a wrench icon -- select that to repair the pillaged fishing boats.

Is there fail gold in the game? I missed out on the stonehenge and didn't seem to get anything from it.

the AI is conquering city states like crazy on deity
any way to tone this down?

How can I cycle through my units that can still act this turn (i.e., with movement points remaining and not fortified/healing) using the keyboard?

Hey folks, don't wanna open a thread about it (because it might be embarassing ;) ) but after sinking several hours into the game
I finally found the unit list! Eureka!
In case you're as thick as I am:
You get it when pressing on the name of the unit! :woohoo:

(It's the little things, right!?)
:whew:

How do you know how many amenities a city will need? Is it based on population?

Mainly based on population, but war weariness and bankruptcy can cause a city to require more amenities. if you open the city details screen (top left button above the city action box) and scroll down, you will see the amenities section for that city, whiich includes details about required and available amenities in that city.

Why can't I build a galley in a coastal city now that I have sailing?

EDIT - I can now, weird...

How do I denounce an AI? The Chinese have denounced me for building too many wonders (among other things) and I want to get them back, prior to declaring war as it will give me a Casus Belli 5 turns later I think. Or do I not need to bother as they 'Started it'?

I was at war with a city state for about three turns (they had the only iron I was able to spot on the map), and without any input from me the game decided we were just automatically at peace and prevented me from declaring war for 9 turns. The only other thing of note that happened on that turn was that I founded a pantheon. Can city states declare peace now, especially with no dialog screen?

It should be sufficient if they've denounced you. Check your Casus Belli screen -- you should have the option of a Formal war DOW against them (as long as 5 turns have passed since they denounced you).

Thanks, in the end they 'surprised' DOW'd me 3 turns later anyway so I didn't need to bother but worth knowing for next time. Also I have to remember to keep some old units back to guard my districts, it's painful to have to rebuild them after a swarm of obsolete units trashes everything in sight :(

Do someone know how to turn on the resource icons at the top of the screen? I saw it on let's plays, but there is nothing now in my game.

Is there a way to determine how amenity requirements as a city grows?

As well as where and when tile expansion happens?

No fail gold but you can recover hammers from partial wonders. I think with builders(?) but I don't have the game to confirm the mechanism. I think I saw 15% of hammers invested.

I'm playing as Kongo right now and I wonder: what on god's green earth are sculptures? I can't find anything in the civilopedia. How do i get sculptures? How are they generated?

Is there a way to freeze city growth I'm apparently missing? I can't seem to pull out pops from working tiles which means hard to avoid surplus.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I dont think there is a button to stop pop growth -- you'll have to tell the citizens to work tiles so they harvest as much as they eat. If you know beforehand how large you want the city to be you can plan the city placement beforehand so you know they only harvest to their pop. Another suggestion might be to put the citizens as specialists in districts, then they dont gather any food but provides other benefits like science, culture ect. (To put a pop in a district you need to construct a building in it that has a citizen slot, like the Library.) If you already have the city down I guess you can take a worker and remove some farms. I also dont think there's a penalty for starving a city so you can get its pop up for hammers to construct the districts and then starve it so you only have some farmers and the rest specialists.
