Random Rants 94 I rant at the thread title and shake my fist menacingly.

Afaik the new has a large enough black market that people will still be able to buy meat every few days. By contrast, the black market here is estimated at a rather insignificant 40 billion euros, so even if it evaporated nothing much would change.

My go-to excuse is that I don't have the mental energy necessary to craft a narrative that I can approve of. Which is probably true, but I'm not sure it's a workable excuse in the long term, which four years certainly is. :p

This was me until around the start of this year. I started breaking the habit by writing down little brainstormy types of notes, upgrading to worldbuilding notes on the margins of drawings, then little mini story chapters.

I wasn't aware anyone actually used Edge apart from accidentally clicking on it.

I have to use Edge at work because it's the browser best optimised for the websites I use for work, until it isn't in which case I switch to Chrome. Don't have the admin rights to install Firefox.

At home it's 99% Firefox except if I want to use Facebook on Android in which case the version of Firefox on Android breaks it for some reason, so had to switch to Chrome.

Ever taken a serious run at doing NaNoWriMo? That's what finally got me in the habit of writing something every single day (on my stories, not forum posts).

That means I've succeeded in the larger goal that the NaNo founder had in mind. He'd gotten frustrated with hearing people say, "I'd like to write a book/story, but don't have the time."

Baty came up with a way to help people make the time. It worked for me. I know how to pace myself now to get this done and have had consistent wins 3 times/year since 2018 (would have been since 2016, but 2017 was a year from hell in which I didn't end up finishing). Sometimes things flow well and other times it's a fight against writer's block (this time was; I kept getting distracted by ideas for Merlin stories).

For the other 9 months of the year, I still work on my projects every day, whether it's actual writing of the story or doing research and writing down ideas based on what I've learned. I've tried so many different versions of some scenes, and even some weird crossover stuff, just for the hell of it.

Some of this daily progress may be no more than a sentence. Sometimes it's several pages. When I get a new idea, it can be a lot more than several. But the main thing is to do something every day.

Ok, so how is it driving wealth upwards?
As an overview:

1) You massively increase public spending in general, to the tune of several percentage points' worth of GDP.
2) Kickbacks all around → you use the money to buy up property, foreign currency, etc. which is not vulnerable to the high inflation that you are creating.
2b) You hire yourself your own private army of followers.
3) In general, inflation destroys everyone's saving capacity so anyone who's rich(er) has an advantage. People just get rid of their money. Real estate becomes concentrated in the hands of ever fewer people.
4) Everything in turn becomes ever more precarious. Jobs are worse, pay less for more work.
5) The problems caused by printing too much money can be solved by printing even more money. Even the fact that your own army of followers is suddenly impoverished for having voted you in.

Moderator Action: This is not a writer's thread. Feel free to carry the conversation to A&E. It is a rants thread, BTW.

and assume you are now selling at 50 and there is hatred against you as a profiteer or some sort of parasite or whatever . Become a generous man and start distributing riches . Like give some random guy 5 . Just 5 . Even if the random guy will be a neighbour that never slighted you . Or extented family . Or some guy who doesn't like your fiercest critic . As long as he is on "your side" . And enjoy yourself as you sell him 60 and pay him 5 , he will be all for beating up the cr_p out of your competitors and critics because he likes your demolition of HIS ENEMIES and easily forgotten promises of paying 10 . Because HE THINKS you two are partners in some jihad/crusade even . Once you start selling at 70 , he won't complain , except to himself and that really happens kinda sorta rarely . Onto 80 , maybe then you will remember to pay your dues .

I have all the creative ability of a particularly dull-looking rock. I did write a poem, and it got a great response from my writing group, but it ended up making me feel worse (due to the subject of the poem, and knowing it can never be shared). :dunno:
Yes, this. I had hundreds of pages of poem in Indonesian that I wrote since I was highschool till University, then I just kill it, now I want to access it again but I can't it's not recoverable. The reason is that very same thing. By theory, it's a form of sublimation where we channel our frustration/lamentation/rant/agony into paper, but in reality instead of bringing relieve it instead frame and captured the moment, in the sense that not only you amplify the feeling while you writing it but also you revisit the emotion/agony whenever you read it/access it, and that makes us weak.

Some emotional struggle pass through times, some of it through rationalization/acceptance as oppose to repression. I can always manipulate the symptom with many things like working out (currently not really helping I'm physically broken) or breathing technique, the later working quite good. When we tense-up our breath become tigthen, long exhalation able to fool our body to become relax even at the most obnoxiously tense situation, I remember just exhale my breath deeply, I able to feel relax and a bit sleepy in front of screaming clients that's went nuts because their house is not ready long passed over the agreed time, even sometimes in front of a lawyer. I got this breathing technique from boxing, in boxing when you feel corner or hurt you hold up your breath, this make you feel tired and lose your breath easily, the most easiest way to loosen up and breath is to exhale deeply not inhale.

Good luck brah.

I wasn't aware anyone actually used Edge apart from accidentally clicking on it.

The only time I see Edge is when I accidentally press F1 on a few old legacy programs. Then it opens it to a page just to tell me that developers shouldn't use the old help system anymore. (Not sure what they expect an end-user to do about that.)

Windows' login screen has a search icon that searches for things related to their login picture of the day and the only time I ever use Edge is when I accidentally click on that search icon

More online surveys need to be tested a bit more. After answering that I never drink coffee, I then get what feels like 500 questions about my coffee preferences anyways.

nope!

Hm.

Sorta like those pollster phone calls I get during elections, or just prior to the writ being dropped. I finally just started hanging up on them when they insisted on asking me who I'd vote for if the election were held tomorrow, and barreling on even when I told them I'd already voted at the advance poll. I told them it's pointless to ask who I'd vote for tomorrow, since I'd already voted.

Just found out that the contact form on my website no longer works, and likely has not for several months. Business for me this year has been awful, for various reasons, and it is likely this was a significant contributor to that. (We'll see on that, I guess.)

The annoying thing is that the form itself works, and it goes through the send prompt just fine. My mail server just hasn't been sending the actual emails. I only discovered this because I, on a whim, did a test submission through the form and realized hours later I still didn't have an email in my inbox. So it is likely that people have been sending me requests, getting the confirmation message, and then thinking I just ignored them. Not great.

Ouch! that is terrible. Can you get a list of those missed requests? :(

Are cities doing away with coin parking meters?

I had a quarter, but now I need a smartphone app?!
It is such a joke. Not only is it excluding people who do not have a smart phone, it is expecting people to install and run unknown untrusted closed source software on their device that keeps private financial information, just to pay a quarter or something.
