[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine: Eight

Depends on how much agency the Ukranian side is supposed to have here?

Either they are being driven out of Kursk by Russian efforts, or they are giving up the territory as no longer worth defending?

IF the-shape-of-things-to-come does not include any provision for Ukraine to use held Russian territory as bargaining chip, then defending it makes no sense anymore.

At the same time, IF the-shape-of-things-to-come indicates the sides will for the future hold on to whatever Ukranian territory they're on, then it makes sense for the Ukranians to no longer slowly cede ground to the Russians, while trying to maximize Russia casualties, but instead rather to counter attack, and try to retake ground.

It all depends on what the hell is in fact brewing down in Saudi? If anything comes of it it in the end, QED.

Probably has something to do with their supply lines almost completely cut off by Russian drones, as Forbes reported last week.
Ukrainian general staff claims they are "withdrawing to better defensive positions".
Russian TV and TG channels show piles of corpses and newly captured Abrams and Bradleys though.

Our TV, thankfully, doesn't do that over here...maybe is an oversight ...maybe we just don't like cheering death!

Ukraine willing to accept 30-day ceasefire with Russia as U.S. lifts freeze on aid and intelligence

The U.S. and Ukraine said Kyiv would accept a 30-day ceasefire with Russia after talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, with Washington pledging to immediately lift a freeze on intelligence sharing and military aid to Ukraine.

"Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation," the U.S. and Ukraine said in a joint statement released by the State Department. "The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace."

The agreement came after more than eight hours of negotiations between Ukrainian officials and a U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

The statement said the U.S. "will immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine." Both were frozen in the wake of an explosive meeting between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Trump at the White House on Feb. 28.

The now-unfrozen military aid comes from roughly $3.8 billion in equipment that has already approved, including air defense systems, HIMARS rocket launchers, artillery and support for Ukrainian fighter jets. Ukraine has been buoyed by the U.S. and other Western allies in its fight against Russia since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion in 2022, and the move to cut off aid left Kyiv at a disadvantage and European allies scrambling.

What a surprise, it was just an interruption to teach Zelensky a lesson.
Let's see if Trump is still called "Russian puppet" after resuming the aid.

So, Ukraine launches record largest strike sending 300-400 drones against Moscow and then offers a cease-fire in the same day.
My guess is Russia retaliates in kind and then accepts it in the same day too.

Still skipping Russia targeting Ukraine overnight. Alright.

Yes, poor Russia, has no way to stop a war it started without risking implosion, must always escalate, can't afford to look weak.

Poor Ukraine/NATO, must always escalate before making "peace offer" exactly when the war they started goes obviously wrong for them.

there is no peace offer there, discussion can only start if Russia accepts the cease fire.

they said they won't, hope they've changed their mind.

Discussion has already started at least a month ago, perhaps earlier. The only difference is that Ukraine started begging for cease fire.

the US asked them so politely, how could they refuse ?

Sudzha. About 1/3 of the town is liberated, Ukrainian occupants are being kicked out of the rest of the town.
