Show me your orders/battle plans!

My entire nation just got whipped out in a single update. Why am I always the last to know about these out of the blue betrayals? Other nations seam to parry most betrayals rather deftly. Do you have massive secret organizations that warrant secret warnings from the mod or are you just more paranoid and constantly updating contingency plans?

Do you have massive secret organizations that warrant secret warnings from the mod

That is something I often wonder about, myself.

And, to the mods out there, I'm curious. How different are my first orders (post 313) from those of other newbies?

It's an even combination of both. Also pragmatic guesses as to where the next logical expansion route of your enemy is.

I would like to disagree. Britain in rtornes betrayed our entire alliance and sunk our invasion fleet allowing us to be defeated.

I should Explain, I betrayed you because I do not know you and you were an unkown varient, it was safer not telling you. Once you play more and I get to know you better, I will be able to factor that in...Sorry.

I find that if during the time prior to the update the thread is eeringly quiet, I tend to get jumpy. Of course, usually those betrayals don't tend to involve me as people usually just leave me alone. For example, conehead's silence for the last few turns in LINESII warned me that he was planning an attack. Very important, you must try and act normal ;)

Like don't write a story about war when you're at peace :p

if i figure could become something like...

-Move Cavalry past the border attacking and surrounding any enemy troops, holding position until infantry arrives to finish off the enemy

-if a large enemy force is met in numbers higher than 1000 the cavalry units are to use attack and retreat tactics until the slower moving infantry has caught up and is able to use its superior numbers for open warfare

-Finally when invading the enemy capital, use three or four soldiers to go into the city as feelers, followed a block behind by the main army, clearing houses as they go, the people at the front going into houses and after clearing them of any possible resistance moving to the end of the line

how would that look?

agian... is this good enough for a tactical order? and what could be improved?

Always be paranoid, everyone is out to get you. Never put your entire trust in ANYONE. In NESing, everyone is on their own. Also, try talking to every person you can on AIM/MSN. When you get into long conversations, people eventually slip up and at least give you a hint of what their motives are. Of course, this requires more than one conversation to work as good NESers are usually capable of handling at least one long conversation. It can also backfire on you if you aren't capable. I reiterate, ALWAYS BE PARANOID!!!!!

They are a lot better than most newbies, or at least that is the interpretation I got from MODing IsrNES2 (in its time a major newbie draw).

That's too pessimistic a view :p For example, I have always relatively trusted a few select people whom I consider to be relatively "honorable." Though the AIM/MSN/etc thing I'm afraid is flawed, I know of a few times where I've hinted at it subtely trying to get the other person to launch a first strike ;)

I'm Jewish, what do you expect other than pessimism? :p

As for the AIM/MSN thing, I know it is flawed, but it has served me well in the past. In particular, it helps when you invlove as many people as possible in disscussion. Eventually, one of them will say something that you can use.

They aren't attacked by forces well over 3-4 times larger than the defending force.

I have to say that I am much less pessimistic, I'm altruistic nearly to a fault. Although exposure has reduced this viewed reality to a mere ideal, it still exists.

its really easy for me, I trust everyone until they prove to me they arent worth trusting

since I'm still a newb i expect my country to lose but I'm more into learning how to play and learning who to trust

Always trust a Leperchaun, they never lie!

Captain2. Let me tell you a story that involves an Empire, a Celtic Empire......a Holy Celtic EMpire, and an Emu.......................and a Panda.

Moral: Never trust Animals from different continents who you have an Alliance and NAP with.

You have to learn to get a feel for people. I usually can tell when someone is about to betray me- or, in other cases, attack me. Some of it comes from strong, past alliances, while other times it comes from long conversations with people and they reveal things they're not supposed to. Other times it comes from realizing the signs of coming betryal (large increases in the army, construction of fortifications on the borders, etc.)

People can generally trust me if they're the first to come to me with an alliance, but after that I generally lie to the others and have no qualms about making a move.

EDIT: gah. I guess I deleted my first battle orders for Segu. I believe they're one of the best I've manage to come up with so far and was actually longer than three lines ;]. I'll post this turn's after the update, despite the fact they're a bit despressed.

Which is exactly why I attacked England in the first place, and then all of you bag on me for it.

Hypocrites!

I don't care about your war with Britain- wasn't the reason I made my move. I did it simply because you were swallowing me up whole- I was losing leadership and otherstuff every turn to France. I wouldn't have minded being your ally if it wasn't for one thing- your arrogance (I still hold to the fact you're arrogant ;]).

I've never really trusted you- In the very beginning of the second IT, do you remeber when I tried to buy a tiny piece of land from you? I couldn't care less about the land- it was a matter of seing whether or not you had any plans of me surviving for the long haul. People who have plans of invading someone typically don't assist in their growing strong, so I gambled on a few things. Despite eveyrone else, I couldn't care less about bringing about the end of French dominance ;].

Hell, no harm in explaining my position.
