Election 2024 Part III: Out with the old!
by virtue of his signifiers of midwestern, gun-toting, small-town, family-oriented appeal, which is nice but honestly has no innate connection to his politics Well it probably breaks down into this: Midwestern = pro farmer, agricultural subsidies, ethanol is preferred green energy source...

Trump Assassination Attempt.
I think this thing deserves its own thread... the reverberations will be around longer than the election itself and considering the rhetoric around the event it looks like escalation is likely... and considering the average American's historical and political knowledge it is bound to head to...

The potential assailant, Ryan Routh, is apparently a MAGA Trump supporter with a history of mental illness and has a previous arrest connected to firearms. He was apparently disavowed by a Ukrainian militia (perhaps he was found too extremist?). He's described as a conspiracist that may have grown very disillusioned with the state of things in the US, listening to Trump's repeated lies.
He fits the profile for those kind of MAGA people that Trump speaks directly to; this time his reaction was to approach Trump personally with a firearm. If Trump had any capacity for reflection and thought, this might make him reconsider his words when he talks in public in the future, but knowing Trump, there's zero chance of that happening.

A man from Hawaii suspected of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump has been revealed as a long-time Democrat donor with records showing he gave exclusively to the party’s candidates on 19 occasions since 2019. Ryan Routh contributed over $140 on the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue between September 2019 and March 2020, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings. The records indicate that he resided in Kaaawa, Hawaii, at the time of the donations, and was not employed.

Ryan Wesley Routh put his enmity toward Donald Trump – the man he once supported but then dismissed as an “idiot,” a “buffoon” and a “fool” – at the center of a rambling and fanciful worldview that also fixated on Ukraine, Taiwan, North Korea, and what he called the “end of humanity.”
The 58-year-old, who was detained Sunday in connection with an apparent assassination attempt on the former president, protested in Kyiv after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and committed his ideas to paper in a self-published 291-page book.

Ryan Routh Encouraged Assassination of Trump In Book on Ukraine
"No one here in the US seems to have the balls to put natural selection to work or even unnatural selection," Routh wrote in his 2023 book.
