Any good site to find info (as a layman) for manometers? Such as those used to measure (arterial) hypertension.
Nothing research-like, I just need the basic descriptions of their parts, but a complete description is preferable. Also, mostly interested in the analog mercury ones.
As usual, this is for possible use as a symbol/bit in a story.

TLDR:
The pressure gauge (whether digital, analogue dial, or mercury column) simply indicates the changes in (air) pressure within the tube/cuff, while it's being inflated (to temporarily cut off blood flow) and then deflated (to allow blood to flow again).
The two pressure levels that the doctor will be looking for, as indicated by the pressure gauge, are noted as the blood (1) starts re-flowing, and then (2) flows freely, reflecting the patient's systolic/diastolic blood pressure.

Less definitively, the idiots who want California to leave anytime they don't win, because they have all the money anyways, why should they subsidize the rubes in the system they claim to understand under compensating people for necessary work. Why do so many neurodegenerative diseases involve clumps of proteins aggregating? Lewy bodies, neurofibrilliary tangles, etc etc. It happens in Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, I think ALS too.
My guess would be that it's per se not special, but you don't see it otherwise.
What I mean:
I guess protein clumping also happens in other places. But in contrast to nerve cells, you don't see it there, because these cells die, and nerve cells don't.
You'd not see e.g. a skin or blood disease involving protein clumps, since these cells are turned over rapidly and die rapidly. Protein clumps would just lead to a faster death of the affected cells.
Nerve cells on the other hand are more or less immortal. They don't die. You'll notice any cellular malfunction there, since there's no turn over and no replacement really (or at least a lot slower than for other cells; I think there's some debate about the "immortality").
This is not my exact area of science though, so I might be wrong, but I think it makes sense.

Interesting. I wonder if the aggregations of bad proteins is the cause, or just another symptom. Though at least PD has a genetic factor (check out the wikipedia page of Contursi Terme for an interesting example).

One of my own relatives cracked jokes like that while we were at my grandmother's deathbed and they were only half-joking despite the fact we had just moved to California. The hate seethes.

Question: While sorting out some books, I found an abridged "for children" copy of an out-of-copyright book. However, the copyright page said that it was copyrighted to the person who abridged it. Is this even allowed?

This includes derivative works. E.g. the works of Beethoven are free, but the performances by orchestras of these works are still copyrighted.

In the UK the cops shoot c. 2 people a year. In the US the cops shoot c. 1000 people a year. Adjusting for population that’s 1 - 100. There are a bunch of differences, but WTH - two orders of magnitude?
