The Very-Many-Questions-Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread Thread XLIII

I don't think the terms are completely synonymous. To my mind, feasible means theoretically or technically possible: plausible, basically. Workable suggests something that is theoretically unideal, but capable of being put into practice with some degree of reconfiguring, adjustment, or alteration. It is capable of being *made* to work.
Oh yes, there isn't a 100% semantic overlap, but they are close enough that they can be used; possibly to distinguish between shades of meaning. It really depends on what thetrooper intends to say, as always.

Bolded fits my idea of what the messenger meant to convey.

Thanks again everyone!

Hard to know this should go.

Russia and Turkey Block Discord

Discord users in Russia and Turkey this week found they were suddenly unable to connect to the online chat application. Authorities in both countries later revealed that Discord had been blocked for allegedly facilitating illegal activity. Russia’s internet regulator, Roskomnadzor, said in a statement the block “is necessary to prevent the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist purposes, the recruitment of citizens for their commission, the sale of drugs, in connection with the placement of illegal information.” Turkish authorities, meanwhile, banned the messaging app after a court decision involving child abuse material that was allegedly hosted on Discord servers. According to BleepingComputer, some Discord users in those countries were able to access the app using a VPN that routed their connections through foreign IP addresses—potentially good news for Russian troops who were reportedly disrupted by the block.

Is there a tool like Plots but does not crash all the time?

Plots is a great tool, really easy for children to use, but it is really disheartening when it crashes on them. I am familiar with R, but that is not easy and pretty like plots. I think I could say much the same about mathematica, but I know next to nothing about it.

I forgot to mention that you can share your graphs via link. There is a button at the top right. The feature comes in quite handy if you want people to play around with various parameters of a particular type of equation

You could always just do a screengrab.

Anyone have solar panels on their home?
Just got a basic 2-panel "Balkonkraftwerk" (lit. "Balcony powerplant") installed on our toolshed roof a month or so back, so really too small / too late in the year/ too soon to see any noticeable difference in grid-electricity consumption so far. But the guy who did the installation already upsold us to full-roof coverage, which he'll begin installing next month, once we've got the financing lined up.

We're under no illusions that we're likely to reach break-even on this setup anytime soon, but that's not really the point of the exercise -- which is to have this up and running before our gas-fired boiler (water + central heating) reaches the end of its useful life, becomes economically non-viable due to price-hikes, and/or its continued usage gets legislated against. Our house was a new-build when we moved in 17 years ago, so the boiler may already be on borrowed time.

We're expecting that we'll need to replace it with a heat-pump -- which means our electricity usage will go up, especially over the winter when the solar water-heater isn't as useful (we installed that kit shortly after we moved in, and it has substantially reduced our gas/ electricity bills, relative to the German average for a 4-person household).

Just FTR, we buy our electricity from a distributor which (claims it) sources its watts from (allegedly) renewable sources, but I'm not 100% sure what the legal standards are, or what's hiding in the fine print (e.g. just because nuclear doesn't release CO2 from the actual power-generation, doesn't make it eco-friendly, no matter how much power-companies would like to greenwash it...). So generating at least some of our own power seems like a good idea, regardless.

Desmos is fine, yes. Best feature is that you can graph various functions and have them on the same image so as to compare.
Yeah, you can make nice ones on plots like that, and I am sure I can do the same on desmos.

My point was more that whoever get the equation can play around with the parameters to see what parameter changes do to the output. Quite hard to do on a screenshot, I mean you'd have to open paint and start drawing at least :)

Will any world leader ever take on big banks?

They create fake money and zero value for society.

Neither presidential candidate even talks about them.

The best you'll here from a Democrat is they want to impose higher tax on big companies like amazon but at least Amazon actually does something.

Big banks are our world's leader.

Right I guess that's why they aren't discussed.

They made a punk out of Obama and it's been hard for people to take democrats seriously since (Trump is the ridiculously bad and still they can barely eck out a win)

For what purpose or towards what end?

Because money not being connected to value created is unsustainable & bad materially & bad for morale of people who actually work to produce goods/services.
True or not, that is not on any politicians agenda. Until we get the private money out of politics (Citizen's United) it is not going to be.

Why do US news networks not play adverts when you watch online?

At the minute I have the 538 Live results and analysis up which has the abc news stream. When they go to adverts I just get a static image of "We'll be right back" and music. Their whole business is selling ads, right? So why are they not selling ads on their internet stream? I have seen the same on other networks, CNN before they paywalled it IIRC.
