In the old days, when I was stationed at NAS Memphis, we used to cross the border into West Memphis to buy Coors beer and smuggle it back into Tennessee. It appeared to be the only thing Arkansas was good for. Now I can buy Coors anywhere and Arkansas drops down to #46.

And half of Arkansas counties are "dry". :ack:

New Hampshire is clearly the best US state, and among the many justifications for it is the fact that few people here (or anywhere) realize that. ;)

Wisconsin actually is pretty great. If it was just a little warmer it would be perfect.

Well Florida has energy. Got a lotta heat and that is usually a bit painful as well as energizing but y'all remember its got humidity too so that takes away any harshness of the heat and so its just pure energy. We call it the "Sunshine State" but what we really mean is the "Energy State". Thats why this state is more popular than say Maine. If not then why else would all these flags fly over it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Five_flags_of_Florida.jpg
Why would it be popular among even the damn yankees. Its certainly not because of the union. They could have a union with just their own states. But noooooo! No energy up there!

An alternate opinion was that before Jerry Brown, California was pretty good. Now it appears that "Other" is the winning state. I understand it borders Maine, Florida, Texas and Quebec.

huh? Prop 13 caused the economic downfall of California, Prop 13 is Reaganomics... how did Jerry Brown destroy California?

(have you ever lived in California? if so, for how long)

Um, I think all that sunshine has baked you a bit too much! Humidity sucks!

Prop 13 was enacted after Reagan had been out of office for a few years. In fact, Jerry Brown was gov when it was enacted. So I guess it's really Brownanomics.

HONOR THE TEXAS FLAG.

That depends on who led, or inspired, the fight to create it. Not who was in what office at the time.

Yeah, 14 for NY! Wooh wooh wooh wooh! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I was at MCAS El Toro on-and-off between 1974 and 1979, attended Saddleback College (Go Gouchos!), and have followed the news from there ever since. If I remember Prop 13 correctly, it was a bi-partisan attempt to get the California state budget back in the black. The gist of it was to eliminate many of the 6-figure saleries while rehiring teachers and firemen and such. It also included (?) tax reform of some kind. Its opponents, including Govn. Brown decided to keep the cronyism and let the firemen/teachers go instead. As VRWC pointed out, it was long after Reagan.

In any case, Jerry Brown is best known for his mishandling of the Med. fruit fly infestation. Instead of erradication of the crop-destroying pest, he chose "natural" controls, which failed. Now the fruit fly is endemic to the Imperial Valley and other agricultural areas and have done $billions in damage over the years. Since then, Brown has unsuccessfully run for Senator and President and probably can't be elected dog-catcher.

Actually, if memory serves, Jerry Brown is most famous for being dropped by Linda Rondstat...
