24:1.

Nothing stops the President from unilaterally ordering a nuclear strike. It can’t be vetoed by the Joint Chiefs, nor the Secretary of Defense, nor Congress or the courts.

Zoom and boom.

Someone who isn't Trump has to push the button/turn the keys and someone else other than them has to deliver the code

From my time in the military, we've always been told that you are allowed to reject a direct order if it is illegal or if it denies human dignity. Heavily influenced by the experience of Germany in World War 2 of course. Doesn't such a rule exist in the US military as well? Because ordering a random strike by the President does seem to be against human dignity and illegal, as it would be genocide. So, actually, does soldiers would be guilty of a crime themselves, you can't hide behind "I was just following orders" when launching a nuclear strike.

I am HIGHLY dubious of that claim, considering the gravity of the topic, and the fact it hasn't happened yet.
It has happened twice.

Someone who isn't Trump has to push the button/turn the keys and someone else other than them has to deliver the code
That would be the biggest hurdle, I suppose. Depends on who 2 are holding the keys that day.

Kareen Abdul Jabar could turn both keys alone.

This is genuinely intended in good humour, Patine, but I just wanted to highlight the funny in someone such as you, who is stuffed full of all sorts of neat historical knowledge, falling back on the "it hasn't happened yet" as a defense of something happening :p

Yes, this is true. But the Cold War got pretty hairy a few times...

Sorry, who?
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played basketball for the Milwaukee Bucks and later the Los Angeles Lakers. All-time point leader, I think he played for almost 25 years.

“Roger Murdock” was the character he played when he did a cameo in the movie Airplane! as a pilot, but the fourth wall is broken when a little boy invited to the cockpit recognizes him as the famous basketball player and not a pilot.

Great comedy movie, by the way. One of the best ever made.

Oh. Not a follower or fan of professional sports of any sort. I recall the movie "Airplane," bandied about in reference in my younger years in the '80's, and even saw it on the shelf in those old VCR rental stores, with a cartoon air passenger liner tied in a pretzel on the cassette jacket, but I never have watched it.

I think it's on Netflix or Amazon. Or was not to long ago.

You haven't seen Airplane? Surely you can't be serious!

Setting side the presidential race while the courts have their say, the House is getting very interesting. Current best guess is 222 D - 211 R with two more too close to call. That's at most seven flips and reapportionment comes during this Congress. Florida and Texas pick up five between them.
