Now that the election is over except for the clean up, has anyone taken a look at the prize?
  • Joe Biden is a Yes man, promoted above his competence
  • Barring the unforeseen, Republicans retain a two vote majority in the Senate
  • Republicans picked up seats in an already tight House
  • Trump made inroads into the minority vote, particularly in Florida
  • COVID was a major factor in the election and will not repeat
  • Midterms could be a *****

I don't think you're to wrong.

GoP wasn't smashed so can bounce back reasonably easy enough depending on how things turn out.

Not my cup of tea but strategically Bidens win is similar to Trump's in 2016.

Everyone has problems. And once again, if somehow one ends up having fewer/less important/more manageable problems, it is pretty ridiculous to think that then they should focus on other people's problems.
Maybe a more logical line of action would be to try to live a little without anxiety and issues. That's what I plan to do, anyway, if I am lucky enough to get there.

PS, should be rather obvious to anyone, that no one knows how the other person has been. So claiming someone ignores that only shows you yourself ignore it. In my view what is decent is to not cause problems to others, and try to make up for that if you do (often the other person doesn't want to have anything to do with you by then, eg I wouldn't wish to have talks with people who treated me badly decades ago). Other than that... no one owes you anything. If they wish to care, good, if they don't, also good.

I believe you, and I believe you have no idea what you're talking about when you think it's all in the victim's mind, that they can shake it off in order to convince people who don't or barely believe them.

I never wrote that I think that. I don't. That's the hard part to understand. It happened and it'll stay with you. Like everything that happens to you, it's also a learning experience. But you can, in some way, affect what you take from it. Some people have repeatedly treated you like trash. As it happens repeatedly, it' easy, even feels rational, to expect such treatment and lash out against it, be on the other side for a change.

And yet, look where it leads. Pure written word is, especially when it comes to emotional context, very imprecise. Everything I wrote here could be understood in several ways. Concern, arrogance, belittling.... You chose, consciously or not, to see the worst of it, and lashed out against it. What if I did the same? We'd be strangers being a**holes to each other, poisoning our minds and even more expecting bad treatment next time.

The irony of these last five pages or so is intense basically on each topic.

I've found in my life the fundamental difference between left and right (pretty much globally even when those terms mean different things) is empathy. One either has this for strangers or does not and that seems to be the dividing line on most topics. I could dive into specifics but it won't help anyone so why bother.

I'm still on the "if this election was close at all that is a huge problem" mode. The fact is the amount of hate and resentment generated in the last 15 years is going to be hard to resolve. My advocation for minorities to be treated similarly to the majority really pisses people off when you confront them on it. I'm not sure how to move forward on that topic. Disenfranchise white men? A little of the "your own medicine treatment"?

I live now since decades on a diet of learning at least 1 new word per day of a foreign language and doing 1 good deed per day.
When I was still doing a lot of driving that 1 good deed a day was always easy because stopping your car when someone wants to the cross the street is always available.
Now with Covid I do not reach my target.

You can reach your target by sending me some money to make up for Holland being a satellite of Germany :yup:
The "no one owes you anything" isn't true for germanics.

Whenever I am in Greece again I will detour to Thessalonika and buy you dinner (as long as I can have my big dish with pikilia)

It's the 'stages of grief'. But! Let's get meta here! You're in the first stage of denial, which insists that you've never experienced the stages of denial.

Which means I still haven't felt denial over my denial. Therefore I have no denial.

Also I could be mentally stunted, which means my brain is incapable of seeing past the stage of denial. However I would argue this is a good thing, as I will never have to fret or become upset if my values are ever challenged.

The Republican House minority leader (Kevin McCarth - R CA) is echoing Trump's fraud narrative. He also claims that the fact that the Republicans picked up House and Senate seats is evidence enough to show the Presidential race results are wrong.

We have to stay vigilant.

Were there far fewer (as a percentage) mailed-in votes for those races?
Also, can you vote for everything in one mail? (Potus-senate-house)

And Ivanka ?
I haven't heard specifically about her but her husband Jared has been reported by multiple organizations as pushing Trump to publicly concede. I don't think there is a lot of difference between Jared and Ivanka on their advice to Trump but who knows.

Where there far fewer (as a percentage) mailed-in votes for those races?
Also, can you vote for everything in one mail?
No and Yes

Citation needed :)

First of all, Kubler Ross' work was based on her work with terminal patients and only later generalized (weakened and watered down) to "grief". Here are some simplistic articles that maybe even you can understand.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_stages_of_grief

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/supersurvivors/201707/why-the-five-stages-grief-are-wrong

Even kubler ross herself admitted to this.

Later in her life, Kübler-Ross noted that the stages are not a linear and predictable progression and that she regretted writing them in a way that was misunderstood.

Secondly, given your lack of knowledge on this particular topic, should I also make other assumptions about you?.... generalizations are cognitive distortions. Don't worry, you are not the only person doing this. @aelf and @Cloud_Strife seem to be very good at it. I can empathize with Cloud, given her history of traumatic experiences. Dont know about aelf....should I ask him for proof to justify my take on the situation?

I also wouldn't assume about other people's life experiences if I were you.
not assuming is my job :)
