If not I highly recommend it. Everyone on there (five people so far) I've met so far has been supercool. It jibes with my values too of course (mutual aid as opposed to needless consumerism/staying at a lonesome hotel). Not trying to advertise (I have no financial interest in the site), just felt like sharing (I figure if we can have a youtube related thread this one is ok). A good way to travel on a budget.

I used that site to rob people.

I was very successful in my robbings.

I'd never do it. My dislike and distrust of people is far too great for me to invest in something like this. Lonely hotel here I come!

Same, no chance I'm gonna sleep on some complete stranger's couch, in their house. If they let me use their yard for a tent, I'd be ok with it.

Ms.DT used it a few times in Europe actually, (both as a host, and a surfer of couches) and had very positive experiences. I'd be a little wary, but I also live with a guy I met on the internet, so what do I know?

It's couchsurfing.org......

No, I've never personally used it, but it looks like it would be an interesting experience!

One of our friends uses it all the time. He swears by it. Both hosting and traveling.

We've done straight-up apartment swaps via craigslist with people before, and have only had great experiences.

I prefer my privacy but I might use it if I was on a really tight budget like if I was travelling in western Europe. I went to a couchsurfing meeting in Turkey that I was invited to by a member and it was nice and none of the people had had problems.

I've stayed with a mate like that before, but I don't think I'd like to do it with a complete stranger, really.

But that seems a lot different to me. I mean, I wouldn't just invite perfect strangers to sleep over like those couchsurfers do, even tough I know some people who've been doing it and also say only good thinks about it. But I might allow it with people met on the Internet whose true identity I didn't yet knew (an example: lots of people on this forum, after a few years of seeing their posts, I feel like I know them enough).

So: more power to those doing couchsurfing, but I won't be joining.

I haven't had a need to, or been in a position to host people, but I totally would. I think it's rad.

It's fun as long as they don't overstay their welcome; I still recall the horror story told by a female friend of mine, who had a male friend (this was the sixties after all) stay at hers theoretically for the weekend, but he didn't leave for a week and she was too polite to tell him to shove off.
