NES/IOT Merger Poll

Should IOT and NES be merged?

I have got smug down pat. I mastered it before there was an internet, before you were born. :king:

And smug ageism is exactly what we want when deciding things for a community of educated youths half your age doing something you never bothered to understand. Right.

>implying anybody in this thread outsmugs me

I honestly can't tell how serious the last ten posts have been except the ones by LM. That's how much I am enjoying this thread.

There should be no checking of the votes against activity. That leads to a very slippery slope wherein an entire segment of the population can easily be disenfranchised.

Additionally, I voted yes, on the merger, specifically. I'm a bit opposed to the heavyhandednes being applied.

Also, Smugnes is NOT the right attitude to bring to this table at all.

Edit: Nor is age a good marker of wisdom or worth.

Huggles and purrs for Valka. I still like you, and Canadians. :hugsmiliethatwedonothave:
Aww. :)

I did post a  smiley in the latest "new smiley" thread. It would be much appreciated if you could persuade ainwood to add it, since it would give people a way to be nice to each other here.

Read my location. This morning I almost got run over by a Canadian. Second time this week. I'm not even joking.
You expect me to apologize for what some Canadian snowbird did (since this is winter, I assume it was a 50+ person with Quebec plates both times)? Sorry, not gonna do that, since I've never been to Florida and don't drive anyway. Talk to your local police or complain to the nearest Canadian embassy.

I honestly can't tell if you're serious or not. Still if you are, I was using emphasis to make a point about how frustrated I am. I sincerely apologize if you're a hermit Canadian lumberjack.
Check your PMs. Yes, I am entirely serious. And keep in mind that a sincere, appropriate apology does not include the word "if".

And the no vote is losing rather badly, if your hypothesis hold water, what that that tell us about feelings about the how?

While I am more or less in favor of the merger, I do believe that being undiplomatic and smug is rather unbecoming of a mod.

Best not to respond at all if you consider another person as being provocative then to resort to... whatever this is.

That's nice.

You know, I was prepared to just let this one slide. Live and let live, I don't come here any more, and what you guys want to do with your forum is your business.

But now Lefty has turned it into a referendum on himself; he is being smug, self-satisfied, and convinced that his 'moderating' style works.

Well, screw that. If this vote is about Lefty, and is going to be perceived as an endorsement of the current regime, I'm going to be whipping this vote for NO.

Peace out, guys.

I wish people would stop making this vote about the Mods. Its not about that so lets not turn it into that

How is it? The question is not "Do you like the mods?" it is "Do you think we should have a merger?"

When did this become the former?

A basic reading of the thread, discussion with people in the community, or generally paying attention would direct you to the proper debate at hand.

How can you expect a merger to be carried out smoothly and thoughtfully if this is the attitude we can expect from the executors of the merger going forward? Because Lefty and EQ presumably are going to be the guys carrying out the merger and making important decisions about the identity of the new subforum yes, it is just as much a referendum on the mods as it is on the merge. In much the same way that a presidential election is a referendum both on the person and his platform.

The proper debate is about an NES/IOT Merger anyone saying anything else is exactly who it to blame for muddying the waters

I'll take the opportunity to point out that the mods aren't changing regardless of the outcome here, so making this into some kind of referendum is somewhat pointless. I'd ask that we keep this to the task at hand and get back to discussing the actual merger of the two forums.

Lefty, how much would you describe yourself as the embodiment of elitism in the moderatorial class? Because you're kind of acting that way right now.

As a fairly neutral party on the merger, I have to agree that some of your comments are embarrassingly insensitive in light of the privileged position you hold.

It's only the former if the mods in question behave in an impartial, unbiased, fair and respectful manner. Unfortunately, there are some posts where this isn't happening.

We're the ones turning it into that by all this controversy. If we'd all just stuck to the topic and discussed weather or not this was a good idea rather than whether or not certain mods are nice people.

Lets get back on this and talk about whether or not a merger is a good thing.

The very first thing Lefty said upon entering this thread was:

Wrong as usual, the impetus for this came out of the current CFC NES community.

Haughty, derisive attack on an effected party asking a legitimate question. After this he begins talking about discounting a fairly wide swath of the community in a way that precisely disenfranchises the group most opposed to the merger. When people bring up valid objections to this he starts taunting/belittling those objectors

And the no vote is losing rather badly, if your hypothesis hold water, what that that tell us about feelings about the how?

1) Could some of the objections have been leveled in a less confrontational manner? Sure, but can you blame the objectors when they feel their passion, which they've been doing for YEARS, is being taken away from them? And even if so, does that justify the snide, domineering way that Lefty has gallivanted through this thread, especially given the tension and distrust that continues to persist among NESers about cfc moderators?

2) Again I ask, when EQ is essentially saying "we need to decide if we want the merge before deciding on the how and what" how can it not also be a question about the people who will be overseeing the merger? BSmith says the mods operating the merger will not be changed. But how can we expect honest and impartial decisions on the future appearance of NES/IOT, that the long-held traditions and history are going to be respected and that objections will be taken into account when much of we've got so far has been rudeness, belittlement of concern, and mockery of dissension?
