NOTW XXIX: Hired Swords - Game Thread

*courteous bow*

A big thanks to my partners Seon, Winston Hughes, and Backwards Logic. A firm handshake to all the innocents and the opposing guilty parties, I was convinced for most of the game that something bad would happen and half our team would end up suddenly dead. Lots of pressure on us, and even some failed murder attempts if I recall correctly.

As is traditional where I come from, this is our quicktopic. You can see most of what was going on in our heads during the game. By the end there the tension was getting to us... ...or me. Whichever.

I started off posting as "Bing Bang"
A Conundrum was Backwards Logic
Seon is The Spy
Winston Hughes is Manaboutadog.
Tebryn is our gracious host, PaulusIII.
Later on we just started using our usual handles.

Great game Paulus. Thank you for hosting.

Also, good work traitors, you showed those innocents who's boss!:p

Rant time.:gripe: Autolycus how the $%*# did you mess up twice in a row. It's a honest mistake to make but still, how did you send those pms to the wrong people twice in a row. End rant.

Ok, I feel much better now. Sorry about that Autolycus.

Epic quicktopic is EPIC. I love all the plots to kill me  Quite honoured I'm mentioned so often in the thread. :D

Those poor innocents, they really didn't have a clue how you totally ran circles around them.

My death made them lose there way. I was really disappointed. I suspected that both ATPG and BL were bad. I was two seconds away from poisoning BL. It was ATPG that saved him.

Choxorn seriously... I told you all to accuse BL if i died... and yet... Furthermore your nightscanning ability did not confirm innocence...

I was having so much fun... argh

Reading the QT now. I must say, I think the traitors had it far too easy this time, but that's no fault of the GM - just the way things go.

Nictel: ofc you were right in poisoning me early on; I think I would have done the same thing had I been in the situation to do so.

Nictel - you were lying so much we knew something was up with you. I was certain you weren't innocent and you obviously survived my attempt, so figuring out when to lynch you became the topic for a little bit, in the quicktopic and through IM's as well. It was one of those things we had to be patient on, and once you stole the sword (I knew it was you fyi even before choxorn came forth) you gave me the opening I was looking for.

From the GM's perspective it's an easy call to make, so apart from the traitors having played an excellent game I can summarize the traitor victory in one sentence:

"GAWD INACTIVES I HATE YOU ALL." Think about it. ;)

PM's, prizes, and some more GM thoughts will follow over time.

Good game, and well done to the traitors! You did great :goodjob:

Also, this quick topic thing seems like a very good idea, it's almost like a ready-made AAR...

It doesn't cover everything, but it's got most of the major points in it. There was a lot of IM'ing that didn't get covered in there.

Some preliminary post-game thoughts:

1. If I wanted to murder you, it is because I respect your ability to see through my lies. Nothing personal, far from it. We kill because we love. ;)

2. Inactive players are inactive.

3. :crazyeye: Nuff said.

4. I've saved a few of my private messages which, IMO, helped complicate things for the innocents. With the permission of choxorn, TheLastOne, Sprig, and Kill, and perhaps others, I'd be willing to post some of the communications, purely for additional reading purposes.

lurker's comment: I think that in the interests of fairness, next time he's a wolf, Backwards Logic should start the game tied up inside a locked steel crate at the bottom of a fast-flowing river somewhere in South America (he isn't told where).

The innocents might be able to scrape a win, depending on how many of his fingers the piranhas have eaten.

I TOLD YOU SO!!!

My biggest mistake was trusting ATPG. I suspeced for a long time that he was bad, at the end he managed to trick me, and Choxorn as well. I should've figured out that he wasn't 'helping' after these two pms:

Sounds like a gameplan. Malahk today, we scan Khazaar during the night. If Choxorn isn't alive tomorrow, we target Khazaar if nobody else comes up. Is that right?

On other news, I don't think I can protect myself for much longer, and I'm not as strong as I lead myself to be. (Diamondeye and me were actually a pair, we boosted each other's strength, so I guess Pauless didn't give me mucho strength because I would be to overpowered combined with my protection ability)

So I would really appreciate the Mithril set.

I have no objections to you getting the Mithril set.

I have been hosting a MASSIVE game down at the .org, and I am beat, going offline for a while. When I get back I'll make a decision.

Also, be careful who you tell that you're not powerful. Keep that a secret, it may be the reason why you're still alive; fear. We'll talk more later.
I'm not telling anyone else. ;)

The reason I am alive is because one of the first wolves to be lynched(don't remember who) was at first trustworthy of Sprig, and Sprig spread info that I had a protection ability. He must've spread it to the others before he died.

LOL I am still at my desk! I haven't gotten off my ass to do my chores and take a nap yet, sadly.

I just wanted to say, that's freakin' awesome that you told Sprig that. I was thinking, maybe it is possible to spread more misinformation through our little network.

The idea is, we have one of our dudes who has no abilities and is generally not that valuable (preferably also a suspect, just in case there's still two evil factions remaining) and have them claim some valuable ability. We tell only choxorn this, because he's our prophet and the least likely to be guilty.

Then we spread the lie through our group, and even the people who aren't inside it, and wait and see if they get attacked. It could spare choxorn for another round, and it could totally misdirect these guys into killing off our own suspects for us, at a minimum of cost.

I did stuff like that in Capo III, where I would claim to members of my own townie network that certain people were valuable, and then the infiltrators (every network has infiltrators) told their mafia allies to whack the people I said were valuable.

At the end of the game we still had 2 doctors, investigators, and roleblockers remaining. (I was on fire that game.)

That kind of tactic works, and I seriously think it would be a good idea to implement it.

Ok sorry for the mafia terminology but I think it also applies here. The risks are basically nil and the potential gains are massive. Are you guys up for it?

Now is the perfect chance for someone to claim a one-shot defender or something, to confuse the traitors.

Who do we have as a suspect that could claim such a thing? We can't use me or Khazaar, because Khazaar already claimed he has no abilities besides "being trained", and so did I claim no abilities.

Perhaps one of our semi-lukers? Thomas.berubeg, is he still alive? The OP hasn't been updated.

Coming up with 'Plans' and not responding to them/carrying them out untill the day is over.

It was also your idea to start lynching the inactives.

You played a great game ATPG. Job well done.

ALSO, I have something to confess, I never had a protection ability! :lmao:

Mafia could've gotten me from day 1.

Yes, but we had more...lucrative targets

I also have a tradition, if I survive a game as a wolf/baddie/mafia, of the victory cigar.

The bodies of the dead are placed in the center of town, poured with gasoline, and I smoke the cigar while contemplating the journey. When I am done I flick the still-burning cigar onto the pile of bodies.

Not sure how that applies here... but the Witch Doctor smoked the peace pipe with his fellow traitors, and then set the bodies on fire with a twitch of his little finger.

Mugambo-gumbo!

And they go burny.

Well, can't say I'm surprised. Then again, I believe Catharsis best summed up what any and all hosts should do to BL when he's a wolf.

I just wanted to say that I was considering poisoning ATPG, but held off. This is the second game I had a deadly weapon, a hunch against a guilty party and didn't kill them.

This was my most active game since probably BL's or zxcvbnm's game (I was a bad guy in the latter), because I became involved in an innocent group early on. This group got destroyed by the loss of Love and choxorn's inexplicable addition of ATPG to the group after that. Not that I blame choxxie-poxxie, but GRRR!!!

Oh, and BL, I never can tell if you're innocent or just playing me. Hell, you might be able to fool a VC prophet. Really.

I'm not going to write any kind of AAR, largely because I spent the majority of this game doing fudge all, but I have to say that throughout the entire early game ATPG was my top suspect. As you wrote in your quicktopic, that public analysis you posted really was ''a steaming heap of horse poo'' (I believe I told you that at the time ATPG :p) and our IM conversations were truly enlightening.

If only you people had believed me we'd have at least managed to kill one of them .

You did kill one of us. ME!
