Official Godzilla Scenario discussion thread

Hey guys, yes, time for an update. I have been meaning to post quite a few changes on here, but it looks like that will need to wait at least a little bit longer.

First off, I have a new 1 TB drive that installed last night. This morning I installed Windows 7, Office 2010, and McAfee, then spent hours patching all that up. I just bought, downloaded, and installed Civ3 Complete for $4.95 from Direct2Drive, and did a quick test to make sure it still runs on 64-bit Windows 7 (it does).

As far as data recovery goes, Best Buy is not returning my calls, and when I look it up online it just says it is in the queue to be worked on, for the past 9 days. :( Will call again tomorrow.

I will post here and in the SOC Modzilla forums and on the Modzilla Facebook page once I know what can be recovered.

As far as the Cities patch goes, I was never able to resolve it. For the MZDR map I ended up taking Teturkhans 256 map of Earth, and cropped out the poles via MapTweaker, removed all the preplaced overlays, added various islands from the Kaiju lore, preplaced the cities that it started with, and all the city ruins. I also had started the smaller MZTB map (built from the ground up, included all of Japan and the Koreas, parts of China and USSR).

I also want to be VERY clear about one thing - Supa is NOT just the graphic guy - he has been an invaluable source of information and inspiration for me over the years here. He has helped develop ideas all along this journey.

I will post an update as soon as I have it. No matter what happens, this will be no more than a setback - it is just a matter of how big.

:) I've probably been too concise. I meant to say I'm not directly involved in the scenario you're working on currently. I'm keeping my neurons fresh for "The Beginning" and "Stomp Tokyo". ;)

I'll be honest Supa, there would be no Modzilla without you. :)

Well, pre-crash I had already decided to scale MZDR back to a single mod (1 map, 1 tier). I was alternating between that and MZTB. MZTB has the additional challenge not only of the map (which I can do), but the 1954-era units for Japan, Koreas China, USSR, and USA (something I cannot) - but the plan is to fudge my way through that with what proper-era units we do have and "modern" placeholders. Stomp Tokyo and the Mapless Modzilla would be the next 2, and I think realistically that is it.

Hello folks. Well almost all my files were recovered, a couple were lost but they were units I re-DLed from here. The main BIQ is corrupt and unplayable but can still be opened up in the editor. As such I've been working on the rebuild for several months now. Modding time has been sparse, just a few hours a week, but I've not been letting up on it. Luckily quite a bit of design work and playtesting has been done over the years, so it is mostly just rebuild and quicktesting, occasionally trying to remember how I did something or making some tweaks.

Here is an interesting article on this mod!

Hey guys! It seems like lots of people have been waiting to see Modzilla (I confess to being among them), and if the current condition of the mod could be shared. Also I was curious if there had been consideration for the human Civs to have any kind of mechs like the jaegers from Pacific Rim or possible any other influence from that movie? In the meantime, I am thoroughly enjoying the thus far released units.

Progress continues, albeit it at a crawl. My hope was to have it out before the Godzilla 2014 movie, but that seems highly unlikely at this point. Unfortunately, work and family take precedence over modding. That having been said, I manage to squeeze in 2-3 hours a week on modding, and I may at least have a Beta open by then.

As far as Pacific Rim goes, no - I see that movie (and Cloverfield) as great films inspired by Godzilla. There will be some Mechas and Cyborg Kaiju, but nothing that hasn't already been released. If someone were to make any of these units, I could work them in.

Currently I am exploring the mechanics of alliances in the game, and working on balance. There will be at least 2 human alliances, 1 Alien alliance, 1 or 2 Kaiju alliances. Human alliances will be made of multiple civs, Alien will have just the Xiliens. It is the Kaiju alliances I am working out the details on.

ALL playable factions will have access to some kind of Kaiju at some point, and the Xiliens will be the only Civ to be locked into war with all other alliances, and are therefore the most powerful. They will have access to alien technology and space Kaiju, and later can clone other Kaiju.

I am also taking this into a bit more of a hero-based mod direction, similar to how EFZI2 plays. Some Kaiju will no longer be auto-generated, but rather will have to be unlocked and upgraded as your tech progresses... and you may only get 1 of them. I try to take into account all the different Godzilla movies. Not sure how or if 2014 will influence the mod.

Good to hear. Go ahead and take your time, gaming/modding should come second to the important stuff. You and Supa are amazing at the work you do here :bowdown::worship: I would be really surprised if someone did make a Clover unit, as even now there isn't alot of imagery to work from . Lets hope for a little more info for the movie soon.

Thanks for the update. :D

Thanks!

I'd do a Clover unit if such a model was available in Poser.

It's good to hear you're still working on it, Goji. :) Perhaps I'll blow the dust off the rendering machine!

It would make for an interesting unit. I saw your comment, so I went to see if I could find one. There are some models out there, but none that could be downloaded :( . I think interest in that monster has waned considerably, so I don't expect to see one (but you never know ;)).

Though there were some available models for the parasite creatures for Fallout 3 and Garrysmode. Don't know if those would work or not .

No Pressure at all, I still have a ton of work to do! That having been said, more Kaiju are ALWAYS welcome, especially the two you've previewed and never released (Anguirus and Gamera). ;)

If the new Godzilla 2014 movie does well, perhaps there will be new models of those kaiju (and maybe the ones from Pacific Rim) will emerge, and if they do, I will very gladly add them in as an Expansion Pack or later release.

Also, the Kaiju civ will be using many of your extinct fauna units, more of those are good too. I should mention that the Xilien Civ needs the Regeneration tech to awaken Gigan, but it also unlocks quite a few other horrifically undead units for them - human and animal... Human civs can get a similar tech MUCH later in the tech tree.

Hey, I don't mean to interrupt or anything, but is this mod out yet? If so, where can I download it?

Not yet released, not on hold either. Just crawling along at a cold, sick snails pace.

I've been meaning to post a rather large update to this thread for awhile, but Real Life issue have brought all Modding-related stuff almost to a standstill the past couple months. I would expect it to pick back in the next few weeks, and that will include a major status update here.

I thank you all for your patience.

Just here for my annual kaiju check. How are things going?

Other than name recognition, is there any reason you chose Godzilla versus the actual name Gojira for this kaiju themed mod? Is the heavy antinuclear theme of Gojira in the mod?
