Steph strikes again: Ancient units conversion collection

Well, if I don't get any answer before the end of the week, I will release tools and how to do the conversion of their units. You won't be able to do all of them if you don't buy the game, but between the demo and a few mod which are downloadable for free, you should be able to get about half of them without much trouble, and no piracy risk.

Hmmm! That could work, so long as my personal mod stayed my personal mod...

...I wonder if it would help if I emailed the company too, asking for permission for releasing these conversions publically?

I'm not sure more request for authorization now will make a great difference. I've already send one. But you could still try.

And your personnal mod doesn't need to remain that way. You get still publish it, using AssyrianSpearman as the name of the folder and ini for your units, except the unit will actually be the vanilla spearman flc.
Then simply tell people who want to use it at its full potential to do the animation themselves. A kind of "do it yourself kit" for scenario and mod

Well, as long as it won't hurt our cause, I'll send a very polite letter requesting authorization.

Good idea too, regarding the do-it-yourself thing. I'm already downloading the demos. Did you find the mods on the Slitherin site as well?

-----

Edit: just noticed that there's a mod for Chariots of War, but the server refuses me for some reason.

Also noticed that there's only a demo for Spartans, not for Legion or for Chariots of War. :(

I found the Spartan demo (going to go play it now), but the only Chariots of War mod I found was here . I get this message every time I try to download (must be because the address is an ftp not an http?):

Most ftp sites have a d/l limit per day; perhaps it was already exceeded.

Oh! The things a guy learns in a day...! :)

Anyway, I found some other place (here) that let me download it, so that's cool!

Things are moving one step farther. Iain McNeil answered my email. He cannot give authorization, because the unit animations were done by Paradox entertainment, Slitherine Software did the coding and remaining art. Iain gave me the contact at Paradox, so now I'm waiting for their answer.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one....

Fingers crossed, incence and candles lit, prayer flags flapping in the wind, you name it!

(By the way, I played the Spartans demo up to the maximum amount of turns allowed, and I had a pretty good time. The real-time battle sequences are fun, although not as interactive as say, Cossacks. I like the combo, anyhow. I'd for sure buy it if I found it in the bargain bin! I'd have to think a little about spending the full dollar on it, because I really have no money.)

well if you do do the spartan graphics from the full game. PLEASE do the triarii animations- doing so would take the Roman uniqu Roman unit line so much further in being completed- only a scant few troops remain, and unfortunatelly, they are the ones that people seem least likelly to do!

It's been a week since you posted that bit about Paradox, Steph. I suppose that means there's no news -- and in this case, no news means bad news?

It's a bit complicated. They did not receive my first email, so I tried again today. Fredrik told me the authorization should come from Slitherine ??
So now, I try to sort it : who should give the autorization : Slitherine? Paradox? Both? More news when I get some.

Oh boy, The old run around game. Good luck Steph. I do hope somebody who has the authority finally approves. Would be a shame all the work you did to convert them and then have to hog them to yourself. ;)

 Tears of joy!
