Stop using B.C.E. and C.E. you cretins!

You mean like lecturing people about "balance of power" in the Ambassador Stevens thread?

Now we can go back to discussing bags of milk and bananas in a can.

In a thread that is about events occurring to and because of diplomats, and about the diplomatic response to those events, it is entirely reasonable to discuss the notion of morality in international relations.

Calendars and the Pledge of Allegiance are not even peripherally related.

Come on guys, this thread's topic wore itself out within the first 4-5 pages at best. Of course it's drifted into whatever the hell people want to talk about.

But the CSA and slavery?
That was a meta-comment on how stupid it was that the conversation was switching to the Confederacy and slavery because of a certain poster. It's effectively the same post as I just made.

Not totally sure why you seem to have it out for me here...?

People keep trying to resurrect the calendar topic, though.

That's not what happened.

Fair enough. It was a meta-meta-comment on the notion of thread topic changing at all. Which still isn't a threadjack.

meta-meta :)
Agreed, not a threadjack. Or a very minor one at worst.

I apologize for pissing you off with the CSA stuff.

Using the "Oldest known human remains" would still be a religious calender. Somewhere between 10 and 45 percent of Americans are YECs and would be offended;)
"Somewhere between 10 and 45 percent"? Quite a margin of error you've got there. Roughly equivalent to everyone West of the Mississippi.

It's a mathematically correct answer, even if the answerer doesn't believe in science.

Ok, inspired by civilization...

When was the oldest known calendar produced? Start a worldwide search for it and once agreed upon start counting from that date. What better thing to mark the year zero in a calendar than the invention of the calendar?

By Chewbacca Defense use, you've lost the thread.

Here. Click at your own peril.

So, what happens if after decades of painful readjustment to the new dates someone finds an even older calendar? Kill us? Him? Someone?

Traitorfish is the most prominent abuser of the chewbacca defense. Always ends up something to do with this dirty, cold, filthy "Ireland" somewhere off the edge of the world.

Ah I see. Now that I think about it, he used it on me recently. And we were on the same side. I didn't see what point he was trying to make other than to make me look foolish? Maybe? I really don't know.

Well, if we assume that 'the world' is where Her Majesty holds sway, the 'Ireland' is that place beyond a border, and Quackers would be correct… oh shceisse I have a headache.
