Trump's statements and promises

Trump is now saying Congress should pay for The Wall.

However, since he's cutting taxes, he really means your grandkids should pay for The Wall...with interest. He is the self-proclaimed "King of Debt." :king:

Well over 5000 people crossed the Berlin Wall which was heavily manned.
I suppose the Trump Wall would create employment.

Fixed
Probably build some wall just enough for a nice photoshoot and political campaigning. Maybe even a nice mission accomplished banner.

Apparently Congress actually authorized construction of a wall a decade ago. They just never funded its construction.

Whatever they end up building, it will be one of an endless string of things where we get to figure out how much Trump can simply bluff his way through this. People haven't seemed to really get this yet, but all along, Trump has been successful because he isn't doing things for the benefit of people that are paying attention. Rather, he is using people's short memories, short attention spans, and general lack of attentiveness to anything that goes on in Washington to create a picture of himself and what his presidency will be (and when he takes office, what it is). It doesn't matter that it doesn't jibe with reality, because people won't care.

That's why social media is such an important tool for him. A lot people will uncritically look at his tweets and the positive headlines that come across their Twitter and Facebook feeds and think Trump is on their side. In effect, he can successfully create his own separate reality, simply because he's willing to do so and because the rubber has yet to meet the road to where people will have been affected by things the government does with him in charge. The question is how well his separate reality will hold up if things really start to go south.

The irony is like you said that the building of the wall was authorized over a decade ago so itsnt so much Trump who lives in alternate reality but all those who oppose the wall now but didnt do so when it was decided about. The gist of it isnt really the wall but that someone has challenged the shifty establisment and its narrative where the same thing is both good and bad in different times depending how it serves the selected elite and ignoring the interests of vast majority. The wall is a quite silly and minor issue -- the matter of the interest is whats important. You cant have a strong nation-country with allianated majority of its citizens.

I dunno. Some pro-Trump Massachusetts sheriff is offering prisoners as slave labor.

I could see problems with this.

I would assume that the USA would want to build the wall / fence as close to the border as possible.
What would stop the prisoners taking two steps so they ended up in Mexico.
Then the US would have to extradite them.

If the US decided to build the fence a few hundred metres north of the border then people would still be able to walk across from Mexico.
The US would then have to arrest them, detain them, try to find out what country they are from then fly them back there.

At least allocate some of those $ to secure the horn which would bring to the wall down.

Would a shofar work against a fence.

New word learned... "shofar"

Trump has admitted Russian hacking but has said it made no difference.

Fom NY Times

"WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald J. Trump acknowledged the possibility on Friday that Russia had hacked a variety of American targets, including the Democratic National Committee, after an almost two-hour meeting with the nation’s top intelligence officials.

Mr. Trump asserted the hacking had no effect on the outcome of the election."

But he didn't even do that. All he said was that Russia and China and others have been hacking us for years, which isn't much different from what he has been saying all along.

In his statement, Trump emphasized that regardless of what happened, “there was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election.” The report said officials had not attempted to make an assessment of the impact of Russia’s actions.

What Trump is saying is that, despite Putin's best efforts, the Russians absolutely failed at influencing the US elections. This kind of throws Trump's 'Putin in a genius" assessment into a cocked hat. Wow, Putin is really a loser.
