A new request for a unit after Horsemen but before Knights.

The Pony Archer.

Moves on Pony.

Defends by jumping of the pony hile firing then firing some more.

Attacks by dismounting then firing.

Fortify is standing on the horse Bow in what i call the "Legolas" position. Looking down the arrow towards the target.

I was thinking 3/2/2

I have been lurking about for quite some time, enjoying all of the great animations you guys have constructed for Civ 3. All are outstanding, but ya'll seem to have forgotten one of the most important units in U.S. and world history. U.S. Army Rangers have fought in every conflict before and since the birth of the Nation, and have acheived some of the most unbelievable victories in history. They revolutionized warfare under Major Rogers (fighting for the Brits) during the French and in indian wars by fighting like the natives. Later, during the American revolution these same men (with the exception of Rogers and a few others who fought as the King's Rangers) fought for the colonies, effectively handing the British their butts on more than one occasion. The movie character played by Mel Gibson in the Patriot is based on the Exploits of Francis Marion aka "The Swamp Fox," and his group of Rangers.
While Rangers have done some great things in every conflict, their most important battles were fought during the American revolution. It would be great to have a unit of them lurking about in Civ 3 ambushing units with a couple of musket volleys and then jumping out to finish them off with their tomahawks.
What'ya say?

For a brief rundown of Ranger history check this out:

By the By, if this unit already exists please point me in the right direction as I have been looking for it ever since I found out we could mod Civ 3.

I would like to request that someone make a Modern Marine. It seems to me that this is a much needed epic game unit. It could be done near to the likeness of TOW Infantry, but one Marine would be firing a Javelin or Dragon antitank rocket launcher, and the other maybe an M-240 MG, both dressed in traditional green/brown camo with the standard USMC cover.

In my current game I was once again made aware of the pitiful ineffectiveness of the paratrooper (both kinds) and it seems to me a better way is to ditch the paratroopers entirely and give the Marines paradrop ability as well, they would then, as in real life, serve as your all around, gung ho, first into the fight units. This would free up the paratrooper spots on the tech tree also. If someone makes this I would set the stats to 14.12.1, well, maybe two move points, have to think about it. Give them amphib attack, AND paradrop, and you've got a genuinely useful unit. Maybe defensive bombard also. This kind of setup would give people more reason to build and use Marines.

A gunboat would do good

Something like that with torpedo tubes on the sides and with a machine gun.

Based on a reponse I got from Zeekater on my thread about managing pollution, it would be smashing if someone could build a HazMat unit. It would function as a worker that only removes radiation/pollution. As a suggestion (mostly Zeekater's), the HazMat unit could do round the clock pollution control as its only task. Perhaps the "clear pollution" job could be unchecked for workers and the HazMat guy couldn't be built until ecology or some other technology comes about. That would make pollution a little more realistic I'd think.

Officer D, that's a PBR type craft, a bit small for torpedos. Put a few modern torpedos in there and you'd send it right to the bottom, lol. Gunboats might be good for pirating, though, in modern times.

Seeking elf unit for a Christmas epic

I made several requests here

Prehistorical hunter with "atl-atl" ( generic )

Calypso ( Commander Cousteau's boat )

Evas 01, 02, 03 and 04 from Neon Genesis Evangelion ( and some Angels if possible )

the Grand Condor and Solaris from "the mysterious cities of gold".

I would like an Elephant Worker.

Initialy, I only wish a 'cutting forest/jungle' animation, and perhaps even an irrigating, but I suppose some would like the others as well even if I have no idea how an elephant could help in building a road.

Update :

I received a MP from Manny Kant about this request :

elephants were still being used for nearly all types of labor through (at least) the 1960s in SE Asia. Look into some of the accounts from Englishmen (Orwel is a good one to start with) about elephants as laborers. I would just suggest that when it comes to mining and road building, have a worker climb out of the basket on top (or just dismount) and do a lot of the work. Or the elephant could drag a rake-like implement to creat a road-way

Been visiting this site recently and I found some awesome mods to Civ3 here. Before those mods I changed some settings in the editor myself which already increased gameplay but I still miss one unit. I pretty much like submarines, probably because I made my nuke subs hidden nationality (hey, they're silent! ). Later I expanded cruise missiles to be loaded on nuke subs but that doesn't satisfy my needs yet. So I was wondering if someone here can help me out and make a torpedo. I would like to load torpedos on my subs and then use them as a naval ballasatic missile. Is this possible at all and if so, can somebody create a torpedo unit?

Ahhh, the romance of the Age of Steam Ship travel... I would be very, very happy if someone would do a nice rendition of the infamous HMS Titanic, or any similar classic passenger steam ship of the early 20th century. These old ships were icons of modern progress at the time and were also very important participants in the modern migrations of people emigrating to North America... Even a series of 2 or 3 different ships would be really nice! :) :) :D

I know there is a cruise ship already in the unit library, but it looks too much like a modern cruise ship typical of Carribean tourism. I'm also looking for something more historically inspiring as an alternative to that landing craft in Civ3 masquerading as a transport :( (The landing craft is still good for the modern age, but I feel we really need a steam transport for the industrial times.) I think a steam ship would be a fabulous troop carrier (foot units only :) ) for those WWI and WWII scenerios too.

Thanks to all the great artists here and to their amazing creative genious and energy! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

I’ve noted the absence of ancient Greek horsepower. So I hereby submit some requests for some Greek cavalrymen. :)

001c.jpg

'Universal' Light Horse-javelinman, light horseman, horse-skirmisher, longchophoi, etcetera.

This could be quite an appropriate horseman unit for most Mediterranean/Mid-Eastern civilizations. A guy, in plain clothes, armed with javelins (throwing spears), no saddle, no shield, no armour, and no nonsense. Personally I think it is a unit that has been missing from the scenarios for quite some time, alas it seems it has yet to be requested. Well, let me remedy the situation at once. I’m currently using the Ansar warrior for all my ancient civs. :ack:

002c.jpg

Thessalian Horsemen (Notice the neat hat)

Predating Cowboys with quite a few centuries indeed, these guys were some of the most awesome horsemen. Well okay, they were good, or more likely they were Greeks who could tell one end of a horse from the other. What type of attack? Perhaps a javelin-attack and a melee-attack, a stabbing-spear?

003c.jpg

Just a type of Generic Greek cavalryman. Would make a good later Prodomoi I gather. He would attack with a stabbing spear rather than a javelin. Unlike the other horsemen in this request, this fella’ carries a shield.

004c.jpg

Thracian javelinmen on horseback. Quite a few of these guys fought for the Greeks in various campaigns. I’d love to see this unit made.

005c.jpg

Light Persian Horseman. Just a little something for the Persians. :mischief:

006c.jpg

Macedonian Companion Cavalryman. Attacks with a long spear or a lance.

I hate to go against my tendency to ask for units nobody wants/needs/will make, but can anybody make or suggest era-progressive animation for the warrior and spearman? In several of the games I have played, large civs don't upgrade a lot of these units (they just build new, better units and leave these defending important cities and their capitals). It looks ridiculous to see a man in a loincloth with an axe fighting against an M1A2 MBT.
Now, my tendency would be to ask the warrior to look like a horror-flim slahser in modern times, but anything that makes them look less primitve and still poorly armed would be great.

Kryten(?) did a cut-and-paste job for one of these, it's in the unit forums (or did you want another one?).

Yeah, and I am using it. But the suggestion I submitted looks a wee-bit different. I’ll wait until after Alexander has premiered. That ought to inspire the guys. :mischief:

 Don't count on the movie providing any inspiration. I went to the premeir here last Wednesday, and it was about as close to three hours of total boredom as one can get. During the film, I thought hard about leaving several times. But, I had a friend with me, and I didn't want to leave him stranded at the movie theater. :(

But, maybe someone will pick up the request in spite of the movie.

Ugh, I hate requesting things when I haven't contributed myself. But this would really help the ROTK scenario I am making. Its a Chinese warship from around the Han dynasty. I have only one picture but I am sure I could find more if needed...

I don't know if someone has made these or not, but I'm working on making a Call To Poewr 2 Mod and I need unit animations for it.

Bam!

The poor Persian Empire have been missing some infantry units, granted they have that rather peculiar looking immortal, yet I hereby submit a few suggestions.

0001cimbri.jpg

Assorted Persian infantry. A mix of light and heavy Persian infantry. I really like the infantryman with the rather large shield.

000_Persian_Warriors.jpg

The Takabara are non-Persian subject mercenaries, Kurds, Mysians, Pisidians, etc, who fought with their own native weapons, and though these guys frequently revolted against Persian rule, they remained a principle source of able mercenaries. The name means ‘Taka’-bearer. Though they resemble the Greek/Thracian peltasts, the spear and taka (shield) was larger, and these guys frequently fought as troops of the line rather than just skirmishers.

Thracians. Again, we have Krytens peltast, but he looks so… Greek. These suggestions have a more Barbarian feature.

0003cimbri.jpg

I think the guy in the front have a true peltast-look to him.

0004cimbri.jpg

These fellas are the epitome of a Thracian warband. Notice the guy on the far right. Shield, sword, and javelins. Intimidating chap indeed. I think he’d look better with a typical ‘Thracian cap’ on, though.

Republican Romans? Where did they come from? Either way, the first chap is a Roman soldier from the early Republic.

0005cimbri.jpg

Roman soldiers from the Punic Wars.

Ain’t they cute? :)

I would like something similar to the Cold One Knight (dinosaur mounted knight), but with a bigger beastie. Not T-Rex size, but bigger than a horse. It would be very useful for those fantasy inspired games I play.
