:nuke:Post Apocalypse Mod:nuke:

I have decided to resurrect another project from the backburner of history.

Originally planned to be Yet Another City Based Mod, I have determined that this one will work better on a random map.

There are 9 factions but I'll need a little help :please: to make them all viable.

FACTIONS:
Freakazoids - The mutated relics of once happy people like you or me. Sure they're ugly but remember, mutants are people too - well sort of... Any resemblance to WH40K Orks is entirely intentional.

Amazons - They blame men for the apocalypse and they're mad. Any resemblance to She Wolves of the Wasteland (Google it) is purely intentional.

Puritans - John Lennon once sang "Imagine there's no countries..and no religions too...lah, lah, lah, blah". That's actually quite easy in a post-apocalyptic mod where there are literally *no countries* but there are still religions! These guys are your stereotypical religious fundamentalists "tidying" up the world for Judgement Day.

Raiders - These guys are your stereotypical, post-apocalyptic gang. Any resemblance to the bad guys in any Mad Max movie is entirely intentional.

Townsfolk - Dedicated to restoring order and progress in the Wasteland, as well as old world values such as democracy, liberty and the rule of law. Any resemblance to the good guys in any Mad Max movie is entirely intentional.

Ghouls - Decrepit, rotting, zombie-like mutants, victims of heavy radiation poisoning. Like Freakazoids, ghouls are humans too but I say shoot 'em in the head. These are a direct rip off of the Ghouls in Fallout.

Radratz - Intelligent, bipedal rat like creatures. Just one of the countless mutated creatures that have rapidly evolved to exploit the post apocalyptic world. Hmm could this be the one original idea in this mod?? I'll need to google this one for possible tropes.

Machines - Some blame a machine for the apocalypse - an artificially intelligent system which became self-aware and revolted against its creators. Any resemblance to SkyNet is entirely intentional.

Tribals - Humans that have shrugged off many modern ways of living, and returned to a simpler hunter-gatherer mentality.

Looks wicked! Although I would have thought the townsfolk's dog would be a bit less...demonic.
Does it make sense that the machines get an "animal" too? Anyway, looks really awsome, can't wait to see more.

You haven't thought of [wiki]El Eternauta[/wiki] while you were at this, eh?

Great idea for a random post-apocalyptic mod, free of canon restraints.
My 2 cents:
Townsfolk big gun could be Tom's Chaingun guy. You might consider a Western feel for them, given the nice influx of Old West units.
Undead wheeled units are quite sparse, but the undead chariot comes to mind, though it doesn't really fit the ghoul race.
There are quite a few robot units out there. I could hunt down some good prospects for 'ya.

Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Glad to have you as a subscriber. Hopefully, I can keep the interest going. I'm pleased this thread has got some supporters.

Less demonic possibly, I toyed with giving amazons a sabre tooth and townsfolk should really keep that dog chained up and away from children. As for the machine animal if I find a suitable unit then why not however, some of these categories are treated a bit loosely - see the "wheel" units for example.

Thanks for the link sounds very interesting. I'll have to look into it - are there English translations of this?

Looks awesome; I love post-apocolyptic mods (and movies). In fact, watched Book of Eli after I saw this thread. :)
Nice movie pick!

Chaingun guy could work :goodjob: Undead wheeled units - I'm thinking more custom hearse unit than undead chariot, although I'm keeping an open mind since as you say these things are hard to come by. A few wheeled possibilities are anything from a Mad Max movie: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=mad+max&styp=m
Or a back end of a car pulled by mutant mules (like Borat):D

I'd really appreciate if you'd hunt out some good picks for the robots -try to avoid anything too shiny though.

Tentative Eras 1 and 2 have been posted above. All thoughts, suggestions etc welcome.

Looks good. In Apocalyptic times, ammunition would likely be in short supply. Perhaps strat resources (ammo) would need to be obtained to build units with weapons. Same with gasoline for larger units requiring fuel.

Flood Plains could be Irradiated Ground, giving less food, causing disease (making best spots to be along the coast, rivers would be more concentrated from fallout).

And perhaps volcanoes could be spots of pre-world nuclear hits (instead of volcano, have graphic of a big hole-in-the-ground from nuke hit). The eruption could be made to be a hazy 'radiation exposure eruption'. I could probably whoop up a graphic for it depending on what you decide.

Did you have a terrain you are planning on using? Something like fallout terrain?

As Deth said, For Big Guns, theres always Chaingun Guy (who wields a Minigun!). I might even redo him with the better lighting.

In fact, there is plenty of AO units with massive guns IIRC that I haven't done; I'll post some pics later so you can see if any might work.

This sounds like it'll be a great mod! Don't forget to add a bunch of Fallout-esque humor! ;)

I have some idea I think you'll like:
New civilization:
The Mufflers (guys that wear gas masks; these guys are similar to the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave)
The Mufflers are super gas mask-wearing soldiers whose main goal is to wipe out all of germkind. They won't rest until every single germ is destroyed. These guys are super eugenicists, and they think that anybody who has any germs on them should be destroyed. Their main weapons are baseball bats, nail boards, plasma rifles, death rays, and any other weapon they have on hand. Because they wear radiation suits and gas masks, radiation isn't much of a problem for them. They have a very hard time talking to the other civilizations because their gas masks reduce everything they say to mere muffles. These guys would be scientific and militaristic.

What do you guys think of this suggestion? I think this will be a very good mod, and it sounds so interesting that it makes me want to install Civ 3 onto my new computer!

There are, but I've never had one -I've read the original ;).
Search around -there's surely bookshops in Scotland outside good ol' Glesga, eh?

I was wondering what unit the Amazons Big Gun unit is? Don't think I've seen it before.

You could consider for other civ's:
- A few post-governmental type civs (of what is left after the nuclear armageddon); 1 perhaps working for good of mankind, 1 of more a sinister nature.
- Perhaps a cannibal type cult civ (food isn't abundant) who have a chance of enslaving 'human/creature food bits' if they win a battle which can be brought back to capital for small amount of gold.

Also, what is the planned backstory for the armageddon? From a general world war 3 scenario? A matrix type of theme (machines go sentient, nuclear war ensues)? Religion caused war from heightened worldwide tensions? War over diminishing and rare resources? All of the above? Perhaps depending on a backstory, some more civ ideas could be come up with.

Machines rising because they determine they're the only thing that stands between idiotic human meatbag governments and an alien invasion? Then after the war they discover they're much more efficient than humans and they go SkyNet on the survivors?

All good suggestions and fit with what I have in mind. I like the volcano idea too and would gladly have a graphic for it.

The terrain currently looks like this:

Oh yes, I'd be very interested in any AO units that could fill missing spots

I really love Fallout so there will be a generous sprinkling of fallout references in the mix. It's hard to make a whole civ when there's few units about and I don't think I can hope for a whole line of mufflers. Perhaps though they can be included as a spawned or barb unit. If you look at the tech tree you'll see a unit there that is very like your description that I've currently earmarked as a Desert Ranger.

I just recently bought an e-book reader :D Glasgow used to have some good bookshops but a lot have closed, Borders books on Buchanan Street for instance. I blame these e-book buyers :crazyeye:

Wheeled 4 for the Skaven, err, I mean Radratz could be aaglo's Rat Tank

What is the Raiders special unit? Looks cool :)

I considered the Rat tank but didn't feel it fitted well. I'll take a closer look at it again in-game.
The raiders special unit is Balou's Armoured Shock Infantry:

A Baseball Fury would be a nice unit to see made. Maybe as more cannon-fodder for one of the civs you already have? Ghouls / Cannibals / Raiders Club League small wonder?

It's a very old unit by BlueO. I don't have a link because I took the unit from Escape From Zombie Island 2.

- A few post-governmental type civs (of what is left after the nuclear armageddon); 1 perhaps working for good of mankind, 1 of more a sinister nature.

For these other civ ideas like Mufflers and Post Govs I can include them as non playable until I get sufficient graphics for them.

I was thinking that cannibalism could be a feature of the Tribals.

The backstory is not fully worked out yet but AI is to blame though more Terminator style than Matrix so machines trigger the war but the conditions for it's escalation are purely man made and follow a background of global depression, change in the balance of power from East to West...
