Altered Maps XII: Not to Scale

You would because when they beheaded someone, they leave the head on a pole in a public place (market) so everyone can look at his face.

Well, yes, but he'd hardly still be smug, would he?

...Actually, maybe it's worth reassessing that one. This is Anders Breivik we're talking about.

Spoiler :

There's a Pokemon map I made. It's connected to Unova directly, sort of like how Kanto and Johto are. It's based on Louisiana and the Caribbean and it has a Latin flair to it. The main city is the one based off on New Orleans. There's also a city based off of Memphis.

I messed up the proportions, especially in the North-West.

The light yellow are places accessible, not not named on the map. They're usually beaches or (in the case of the ones on the Mississippi River) towns. I know it's hard to see, but there are a lot of towns on the Mississippi.

Because this region is much more boondockish and poorer than the other Pokemon regions, road development is limited and you have to travel the water a lot more. The water that's a little bit darker is navigationable (including the bit on the Mississippi River).

What looks like a pink city in Jamaica is the Safari Zone.

The Yellow Island on the South-West Coast is where the Elite Four are.

This game has three versions which are based on Courage, Passion, and Wisdom. The Jade Swamp is West of NOLA and that's where the Courage legendary is. The Pearl Island is blue and is right above Cuba and that's where the Wisdom legendary is. What looks like a very small red city in the very north is actually Mt. Passion, where the Passion legendary lives.

The yellow city in the North East is a major port and is accessible after beating the Elite Four. From there one can journey to a few major cities in Unova (not all of them).

The names of the cities and islands in the game are going to be mostly based on attributes, ex. Mercy River, Hill Fortitude (Memphis), Patience' Shore, Isle of Resolve. Likewise, the names of the routes won't be named after numbers like in previous regions, but will be named based on the cities they go between or based on attributes like cities are (Golden Road, etc).

I'm pretty satisfied with the map with the exceptions of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them. I'll draw another map soon with proportions straightened out, among other things. I have a few more idea, like a Battle Frontier. I want it on a lake in the mountains.

Sorry it's so small, it was a lot bigger but Photobucket f'ed it up. This is a reoccurring problem, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Use Imgur instead.

Perhaps you could put that in a spoiler? It's terribly large.

Saudi Arabia is as rich as the US?

Still, better than my map, to say the least.

Hmm, I guess it should have been "level of development"

I based it off of the map tk provided but I was so focused on the colours I forgot to look at the context of the colours...

It's World Bank income group levels based on GDP per capita, which correlates rather well with level of economic development with the exception of some petrostates (cough Equatorial Guinea cough), and not factoring in income inequality (cough China cough USA cough)

Obviously within the "high income" group there are countries with higher income than others. The United States is towards the high end of the group, and Saudi Arabia is somewhere in the middle of the group.

Nice map by the way Peck

This is probably a better base

It's not perfect, but much more accurate at describing contemporary economic development than the traditional Worlds Theory.

Edit: in map form

equatorial guinea wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?

probably oil + not very many people.

Hmm, I did not know Equatorial Guinea had that much oil. I wonder why Spain didn't sack all of it while it was still its colony.

From wiki:
The discovery of sizeable petroleum reserves in recent years is altering the economic and political status of the country. Its gross domestic product (GDP) per capita ranks 64th in the world;[8] however, most of the country's considerable oil wealth actually lies in the hands of only a few people.
There goes my plan to move there. And it's among the top worst human rights charts apparently.

Also, lol their economy:

Yes. That man is just... there is a Catalan writer and sociologist who wrote a book about some African dictators. This was one of them. I think its called "Clowns and Monsters" or something like that.

I feel sad for such nations, i mean they have oil, a small population, yet live in a hellhole. THEY COULD'VE DONE SO MUCH!

If Antarctica melted:

About that map, its the weight of the ice that makes the earth be below sea level. So, being the ice melted the whole continent would supposedly rise up a few dozens of meters

That peninsula over there will be named after me cause when I'm old I'll be president of Spain and reclame that territory, if you don't mind

Land indeed rebounds when freed of an ice sheet, it's happening right now in parts of North America, Europe and Asia. Not sure if it would be enough to rise above the massive rise in sea level that would follow and Antartic total-meltdown, though.

Massive (2-3 mile thick) ice sheets way a ton. They force the ground to sink down lower than it would naturally be. Continental plates are naturally less dense and more bouyant than the mantle beneath them, which is why they are on top. When the ice goes away, the land rebounds to return to it's original height.

It's real, it's happening, it's not that complicated.

As far as the 'below sea level' part, I'm assuming he just means around the edges of the continent. Who knows if the rebound will be big enough to overtake the rising seas.
