DPII's Unit Previews

They were in his 'Long Term' List. He lied :p

Well, basically, what happened was that while there was discussion over the Macabee, I was sifting through my stuff and found those two models which had not been done yet, so I decided to finish them. But that pretty much sweeps out the last of my "old" stuff that I made (old meaning before I left).

To add my 2 cents to the multi-million dollar growing pile ;) :

While your Aztec War Elephant is certainly a new and unique idea, I would much rather see Kal-el's sketch/idea for an Aztec horseman/knight brought to life. The idea of Aztecs riding horses used to bother me too, that is, until I saw Kal-el's sketch, horse and rider decked out in believable Aztec regalia, complete with macuohuitl (sp?).

Yes, I know I've already requested this in another thread, but it bears repeated IMO.

At any rate, I can't wait for those musket/arquebus units, African and American alike. Your units are always a joy to anticipate and use. :D

I would like to do the Aztec Horseman, but the simple fact is that I can't. I haven't the skills to model the unit currently. It would require make armor that I just can't do right now. 99% of the stuff I've made is made from models I bought or downloaded for free from the internet.

Hmmm... well, hopefully someone will do it. Someday.

Great units these, though. I've really been wanting more Amerindian gunpower units for awhile now, and the African units will definitely come in handy.

I've added a new unit to my previews

Thank you to Kinboat for the wonderful cataphract! :goodjob:

Parthian Cataphract Camel or go to the first page.

And DPII has been boozing and hanging out at the strip club and is tired, so he is going to bed...

I would love to see fully expanded animal units to replace or be an alternative to the horse lines - elephants, camels - even Zebras and Rhinos. Go for it!

Zebras can't be rode currently. They first would have to be domesticated, then over generations a new bigger "War Zebra" would have to be bred....not unfeasable, considering Zebras are a Tropical Horse.

Rhinos....Thats an animal that would be devastaing on the battlefield. Don't know if its possible to ride them(temperment-wise). With armor to protect their already tough hides, can you say "BLITZCRIEG?"

DPII has already done alot of elephant units, and a few camels.

Zebras are rather tropical donkeys ;)

I really don't think any rhinos could be tamed for war. I don't any think any Rhinos could be tamed at all.

But, it's a game and it's not less realistic than the ostrich.

When I was a young child, my family and I were on vacation and in florida at the Lion Country Safari. We drove into the Ostrich's area, and I thought they were cute so I rolled down the window of the car, hoping one would come over so I could pet it. My Parents were screaming at me to roll up the window, as a particularly large Ostrich came over and attempted to attack the occupates of our car(Me actually) I still thought it was cute as it attempted to attack me!

Actually, it is less realistic than the ostrich. You can't ride a Rhino (at least not without some serious risk).

Ostriches not only can be ridden, but are.

Btw, I haven't seen too much comment on the Cataphract Camel.... I want some feedback!

EDIT: I've enclosed a new run animation I've been working on to replace the old jerky camel run. This is still pretty jerky, but I'm slowly improving upon it.

Yeah... there's been talk about a rather far-ranging idea to have horse, elephant, and camel replacements for ALL civilizations (or at least regions) rather than camels for Middle Eastern civs, elephants for Indians/Carthaginians, and horses for everybody else.

It'll be a hella lotta work though...

But this cataphract would be good for a European variant of the Middle Ages camel.
