I cannot figure out how to make resources look right in my mod I'm starting. Everything comes up with a pink background. Everyone seems to praise GIMP, but honestly I have never seen such a user unfriendly installation in all my life. There is, apparently, no "installwizard" program - I double click on "install" and it brings up a text file that talks about libraries and packages!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have GIMP installed yet? ;)

How are you doing your resources file? Are you creating a new one, or adding to another one, or what?

How Do I Install it??

I am trying to add new ones to the pcx file. I tried creating a random map, and all resources were bathed in pink!

Go to Gimp.org, and CLick on "Automated Installer". Then, click on the left side of screen on the word download. Then download the GTK+2 Runtime enviroment, and the GIMP file. (They are the top two links on that page.) Install the GTK first, then the GIMP. Post again after you install it, or if you are having trouble installing still.

They did not explain any of this on download.com, IIRC :(

Thanks for the info, will do that as soon as I get home.

I can't find the "gtk+2 runtime environment" on the website....

OK I found it, but how do you work it??!

I'm no farther ahead than last night. How do I run GTK? What do I need to do? I'm sorry, but this is getting highly annoying. It's too much of a headache. I'm sorely tempted to shell out $119 for PSP.... :(

Fantastic! Thanks! I saw that, but I thought it was the GIMP again and not the installer.

Now, to work! :D

EDIT:

No no no - stuck all over again!!! I tried following GRM7584's advice, but but when he says "Now go to Dialogs -> Indexed Palette"....there is no "indexed palette." I can't find it, anyways.

Open your exsisting resources.pcx file. On the main GIMP window (the one that says "The GIMP") click on FILE. Then goto DIALOGS.

GIMPPic.jpg

That should show you where it is.

I must have a different version.....

Can anyone help me find it....?

It looks like you've misplaced the dark pink boxes. Try to move the whole picture 1 pixel up and 1 pixel left.

No, the grid lines are showing. I don't know how to make both the grid lines and the boxes transparent aside from erasing the lines. If I do that, it'll be hard to place new resources into the proper spacing!
