The thing is, I do not know what talking points she would find the scariest aside from the overt ones where it crosses into homophobic and transphobic territory. You may be thinking "But certainly you would know since you've pulled yourself out of a right wing echo chamber", the thing is I never picked up any sort of homophobic and transphobic cues, or they're really just that good at covering up that portion of the onion (Yes, that onion metaphor from Innuendo Production).

I mean, I am all for ensuring that protections given to us by the laws and the constitution are extended to minorities. Though I always thought that's been the default and have been living MLK's mantra of "Judge not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character".

Except people are a result of their circumstances and how society treats them and that phrase does nothing to address the reality that for decades minorities have been and still are effectively 2nd-3rd class citizens still subject to both legal and physical discrimination.

You can't pretend to have not considered or acknowledged that trump was and is doing damage to these communities when his vp is known for supporting literal torture therapy to zap away the gay or transness

GenMarshall, Cloud doesn't really have a choice. Her life is at serious risk once any amount of right wing talking points start to take hold.

They have to constantly be on the defense, the risk is so high. The best way to help keep her safe is to pay attention to which talking point she finds scariest.

Which ones of "my" talking points, precisely?

She will tell us!

Just remember, even the ones we don't know about, she finds super scary.

I honestly see it as a hyperbole since if there were any legal and physical discrimination going on, they'd be struck down by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and subsequent civil rights acts passed since 1964. Though likely the discrimination would happen away from the eyes of the law or done in a way without causing a legal alarm or minorities have no legal venue (too poor to hire a lawyer) to sue a company or employer for a breach of the Civil Rights Acts.

I only learned about it now, though he only once supported the use of federal funding to treat people "seeking to change their sexual behavior". Though I only prodded into Snopes about this to get a feel.

I've been insulted, spat on, punched and just generally had the *poop* kicked out of me for being visibly trans, to the point where I fear leaving my house and trump being in power and doing the damage hes done only makes me feel more vulnerable
I've wondered if you lived around the Bible Belt region of the southern United States, since that's the sort of behavior I'd see in the more ultra-conservative rural south, not something you'd see in urban or suburban America.

I know, rite?

Bawoooooooon!

largely ones about how her existence is a complete farce or mental disorder worthy of treatment
Rather then acceptance. Treatments involving physical punishment in some cases. You cannot tel me you are not aware of why Pence was number two to Trump for the last four years?

It’s not like it’s hard to find, although thankfully it is harder to find then it used to be.

"If it's legitimate discrimination the body has ways to shut that whole thing down"

It's everywhere.

Look, I benefit from privilege, but I think relatively little of that has to do with my being a white cis male, and a great deal of it has to do with my living in a place that does not suck. This is actually a pretty welcoming part of the country where some of the experiences others have in places that do suck is hard for me to imagine, but I can take Cloud at her word that it sucks for her. Yeah, we have teasing and our share of jerks, but to think that a transgenders life is somehow in realistic danger here is a stretch. Maybe it isn't a stretch elsewhere.

This is all quite demonstrative of my first paragraph because any of those things getting any serious traction here is unthinkable.

The technology is too expensive and can't be made profitable. Otherwise this kind of stuff would be wide spread. I heard about this existing 20 years ago, so where the hell is it's implementation? No thank you, I'm not naïve, any one with half a brain would know that's fairy tech that can only be practical if it breaks the second law of thermodynamics. Never gonna happen. Just like how they say fusion is 30 years away, never gonna happen.
Plants break the second law of thermodynamics?

There's pieces of work everywhere. Little old Republican librarians and public servants of all types are needed to keep accesses working. Friends. Cops. Protectors. They don't all come through when you need them too. Eventually, familiarity wins with anyone who has an ounce of empathy. But that's not easy.

But hey, balloon. These might not be the right type of bees.

It’s your daytime during my nighttime. You won’t count at night and you won’t count during the day?

Just get him over the freakin’ line already! We already know he did!

I think that's my case with me, though I still cringe at the use of "privilege" since it implies to me that I'm some rich elite when I'm not. Yeah, the employment in my state sucks, but in general still live in a place that does not suck and is welcoming.

It's everywhere.
This is true, and I wonder if some folks seem to be living under a rock
Or unaware of it happening. I know for me it's unthinkable for it to happen in the US.

I can appreciate this reality you have, but you have to a acknowledge that this is why Pence is popular. His people are the ones who still talk this way and would love to revert all sorts of laws and at least not enforce certain laws violations.

NYT reporters say that while GA may not officially be called for weeks that we now have enough data to be certain it would take a massive tabulation error for Trump to win

Plants can't remove that much carbon. There is a limit to how much biomass you can have spread out across the Earth's surface. The current amount of CO2 we have already dumped into the atmosphere far exceeds whatever would be brought back from just plants. Other carbon containment methods (like limestone slurry creation) are too expensive.

I'm not doubting Clouds experiences but to help her out you need to have power. To get power you need to win elections.

To win elections you need to be able to carry states outside the east and west coast bubbles.

That means you need to convince people who might agree with you 40-90%.

If you insult them, talk done to them or start lecturing them about white privilege it's not going to go down will. This is common sense.

Basically you need the progressives, left of center, centrists and some swing voters go OK I can do this.

No one's really condoning the toxic alt right but the far left isn't much better in some ways.

95% of the population isn't LGBTQ, the majority is still white.

If you don't appeal to them you can't really blame them for not voting your way.

Some voted Trump because if the economy. LGBTQ rights just don't define them. Hell I know of a Lesbian couple with adopted black daughter they voted for Trump. Can't figure that one out but there you go.

Seems a larger number of blacks and PoC than expected voted for him as well.

You might want to think about where all these fossil fuels came from, which we are using to generate all that CO2. (There is a hint in the word "fossil").

Is he within an automatic recount? I guess it wouldn’t matter since he’d basically have to flip every state still being counted which seems almost an impossibility.

I'm at the point of saying, just give GA to Biden.
