Decline in OT activity

Thx boots for putting some ideas in the staff forum.

Ref. Exorcist. Ref. Freedom to not browse threads you don't enjoy.
The first part of your answer still doesn't make any sense to me. Is there some pop culture reference in there that I'm supposed to know about but don't?

And how is a person to know if they're going to "enjoy" or even have a vague interest in a thread until they see what's in it?

But by that logic, why not have threads full of stuff that is rude, antisocial, and gutterworthy? After all, nobody's compelled to read them... If that's what attracts people these days, fine. I'll find somewhere else to hang out. In fact, why wait. I'll just go right now.

One thing about the forum I both like a lot and don't like at all is the incredible hypocrisy regarding the official "We're a family forum and stuff guys" stance.

This stance seems to mean that incredibly suggestive sexuality is fine, but nudity, even if it isn't sexual, is right out.

I have no idea what sort of families "The deciders" on this forum have, but they must be pretty messed up to think that the babes thread (for example) is family friendly, while an innocent shot of a nipple is not.

Okay, now that I'm done ripping on "the deciders", let me just say that the other side of this - the "like a lot" part is the babes thread itself. I'm a hypocrite as well, and an honest one, so I have to admit that I look through this thread every once in a while. It's niiiiiice. It tells me that the people who post there have for the most part a very agreeable stance on babes. I can't not praise their efforts.

Anyway, this whole stance on "family friendliness" makes the whole forum appear to be a bit of.. well.. I don't even know how to describe it. A wild west ran by 16 year olds. "SEX IS BAD AND NIPPLES ARE GROSS BUT LOOK AT THAT ARSE"

It comes across as incredibly immature to me. Either do it one way or the other way. This is a weird teenage type of compromise that comes across as very amateurish. Does it attract potential new members or drive them away? I'm not sure.

But hey, I do enjoy the babes.

Personally I'm fine with it. I have no particular desire to view, or not view, nipples, of either gender.

Who was that woman who started a campaign to "free the nipple", btw? It is a bit weird that a teat is considered obscene, for some reason, when I think about it.

Anyway, one thing I do like about CFC is the autocensor. It's very occasionally a nuisance, but mostly I'm glad as anything not to have to wade through pages and pages of so-called bad language that I stumble across practically everywhere else on the Internet.

It's nice, but I got infracted once for accidentally triggering the autocensor. As soon as I realized it, I went back and edited it out, but.. a couple seconds later I got a note that I was infracted for triggering it.

Bit silly that! But I'm over it. All the other infractions I ever got on the site were probably warranted. The mods do a good job overall.

Yeah, most of us are well aware of the hypocrisy involved in allowing a babe thread while otherwise sticking to a strict intepretation of "family friendliness". The babe thread is something of a holdover from a much earlier time in the forum's history and would probably not be allowed today if they had previously not existed.

FWIW, there's a strong possibility that the babe threads will be going away in the very near future due to a complaint by Google Ads, whose bots recently found one of the old babe threads and tagged it as offensive. Apparently they're doing this throughout the internet and pulling ads from sites that don't meet their content requirements. So our hypocrisy here is likely to be resolved, if only because Google is even stricter than we are.

Also, conservatives lost the arguments, so now we have to go to more obscure topics.

I'd say they were driven off as opposed to losing arguments. The majority sitting around and claiming 'we won' while demeaning opposing opinion and slapping each other on the back for it, isn't exactly winning an argument. But around here apparently its taken as such.

Point being, over the years, I've had my intelligence, morality, wife, kids, religion, career, called a bigot, racist, religious fanatic, boot licker, cop lover and attacked repeatedly here by posters considered pillars of the community. Often very nasty comments that no one would ever say to my face in person. All for simply being a conservative in a overwhelmingly left leaning forum.

It's not exactly an oasis of tolerance for opposing thought around here.

If you come here to win arguments, then you're in the wrong place entirely. What you're looking for is a debate team or competition or whatever.

I'd say people come for their own different reasons, and I'm not sure one is anymore valid than the rest (aside from solely being here to troll others).

Winning an argument isn't always the same as convincing the party you're arguing against. I think many threads here have had their argument "won" by one side, even if the opposing side didn't acknowledge it and the thread continued for 20 more pages.

Rather than trying to win an argument I just hereby express my support to 'Free the Nipples' movement.

This is very, but very true. :goodjob:

MobBoss, in a very roundabout and probably accidental way, makes a good point: if you find somebody's views noxious, refuse to engaging with them. Block them if you have to. Repeating the same bitter arguments over and over again achieves nothing expect lowering the tone of the whole forum.
