2020 US Election (Part 3)

This fact check is garbage and shouldn’t even qualify.
President Donald Trump is making false and exaggerated claims about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Feb. 24 trip to San Francisco’s Chinatown. Pelosi urged people to shop and eat there at a time when tourism was suffering because of the novel coronavirus, which originated in China late last year.

Trump falsely tweeted that “Crazy Nancy Pelosi” had deleted a video from Twitter of her visit to Chinatown. “She wanted everyone to pack into Chinatown long after I closed the BORDER TO CHINA,” Trump said. But there is no record such a video was ever posted on Twitter by Pelosi
The fact they’re checking isn’t the claim about what she said about Chinatown, but that Trump was wrong to say she ever tweeted a video of her saying it. This is comedy. As if the Twitter video is the important point Trump was criticizing her for, telling people to “come on down”. Even “fact checkers” are just partisan hacks now.

They are partisan hacks because they are reporting on the accuracy of what Trump said, rather than what you think they should be reporting?

Why is it garbage, other than you saying so? Why is it partisan, other than the apparent fact that you disagree with it?

The check is on Trump saying she deleted a video. Not that she ever tweeted a video in the first place. The distinction is important because it means he's lying about her actions specifically, regardless of what he was criticising and whether he was right or not for doing so.

I await @El_Machinae's response to my retorts about populism as a phenomenon that he had asked about observable trends, historically, and I have answered.

You accidentally forgot to post the link, so: https://www.factcheck.org/2020/04/trumps-false-claims-about-pelosi-and-chinatown/

fact check continues:
  • Trump falsely tweeted that “Crazy Nancy Pelosi” had deleted a video from Twitter of her visit to Chinatown. “She wanted everyone to pack into Chinatown long after I closed the BORDER TO CHINA,” Trump said. But there is no record such a video was ever posted on Twitter by Pelosi.
  • At an April 13 coronavirus briefing, Trump falsely claimed that during her visit Pelosi said, “‘Let’s all have the big parade — Chinatown parade.'” Pelosi didn’t say that. In fact, that parade had taken place on Feb. 8, more than two weeks before Pelosi went to Chinatown.
  • At a coronavirus briefing on April 15, Trump exaggerated when he said Pelosi “was trying to have, in San Francisco, parties in Chinatown, because she thought it would be great.” Pelosi didn’t mention parties during her visit, although she urged people to come to Chinatown to shop and eat.
  • Trump also falsely said Pelosi visited Chinatown “to show that this thing doesn’t exist,” referring to the novel coronavirus. Pelosi never suggested that it didn’t exist. She stressed the need for “prevention, prevention, prevention” — urging people to be “concerned and vigilant,” but not “afraid.”

To me it looks like the one who posts only a specific portion of the fact check, leaving out the rest, plus not posting the link to try to do this unnoticed, is the partisan hack.

So I hope you just copy/pasted this, instead of being the sneaky one. Now you can relay this information back to the one you copy/pasted this from.

You're welcome :)

Making the issue worth fact-checking not what she said and how it is supposedly different from what leadership was saying (which according to many now was action so wrong it’s complicit to murder) about activity during Covid but instead about examples of mudslinging, which there are endless levels of. But if you hate Trump you can gargle and swallow this and help your assurance Trump is a turd and Pelosi’s “sins” aren’t worth examination.

Trump made the issue worth fact checking when he decided that is was worth the president of the United States telling the nation about it. It kind of appears that a private organisation that does not receive tax payers money cares more about the truth of the POTUS's statements than the POTUS. How is this not an important thing to know?

Do note that they ALSO reported on the accuracy of what he said she said, and that was also false.

I genuinely struggle to understand which point you're making here.

Again, you are welcome :)

Trump supporters won't even try to defend their man, so all they can do is try to pull you down to his (and their) level

Moderator Action: Strangely enough, this is not the Covid thread. Since it is the election thread and the election is all but over now, any further moderation will include this thread's permanent closure.

Maybe a new thread should be born where we can partisan like it's whinywhinywhine.

You can count be out of that thread. I am not a partisan - to an American political party, certainly.

The election is over but the fighting over it is definitely not. If this thread were closed, I'd just open another one called '2020 Election Controversy'.

Well, it's actually the election that made me active again. But barring any completely unexpected turn of events, this thing is over and it's time for me to crawl back under my rock until the next episode of: Democalypse America, or until Biden has turned America into a socialist hellhole just like Obama did.

The fact they’re checking isn’t the claim about what she said about Chinatown, but that Trump was wrong to say she ever tweeted a video of her saying it.

I will admit, I will never understand why people were so tolerant to let their employee, Trump, lie to the public about things that were so easily verified as false.

The falsehood Trump included in his statement diluted the sting of whatever point he was trying to make. That's not our fault

He is a paid bureaucrat with a dedicated White House communication platform.

I was hoping that the Biden presidency one would stay open, but that wasn't to be (since it devolved to the same topic as in this one). I'd still hope that the next iteration of this thread would look forward rather than backwards. I can hope... :)

In this case, it wasn’t just “dulled”, it took precedence. Low-hanging gotcha fruit to overlook an ugly truth about a career politician who’s in the correct political party.
