Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

When I take an in-game screenshot a box appears asking for a file name. I give the picture a name and hit enter. Later when I look at the picture the box with my filename typed in is in the screenshot. Is there any way to fix this problem?

What do you do to take the screen shot? All I do is hit "prntscrn" and windows/civ automaticly copies it to the screenshot folder, and additionally you could just alt-tab to windows paint and put in there if you need to.

I asked these questions in the MP subforum but nobody answered.

I'd like to have more precisions about the MP possibilities.

Can :

- I Start a game with AI controlled civilizations ?
- a new human player take the control of an AI controlled civilizations during the game ?
- a AI take the control of a human civilization if he retires ?

In

- Pitboss ?

- PBEM ?

In Pitboss (via Internet), what happens if connection of the host's computer is rebooted while Pitboss is active ? Can Pitboss deal with that automatically ?

That's exactly what I do, let it get copied to the screenshot folder. I thought I remembered reading that the screenshots were automatically given filenames with sequential numbers. Did they change it and bring in the name box with the last patch? I just recently tried to take a screenshot. I like the idea of taking the picture and then going to it later, would rather not do it by Alt-Tabbing to Paint or running a screenshot app at the same time.

That is weird, all I do in my game is press print screen and all is well with no popup, so I don't know what is with that. Have you looked at the prefrences, maybe reset them to see if something is changed there? I looked in the .ini and didn't see anything that would affect them. Something to try would be to run the game in window mode (you can set it to ask you about that in the ini), and then changing to paint shouldn't be a problem.

Here is an example of the problem.

This shouldn't be here0000.JPG

Just to prove to you that for some reason some have this problem, and others don't...

I don't know how much difference this would actually make (and probably little, but it is worth trying) what about alt-print Screen?

Also what happens if you make civ4 a windowed app, then de-select it and then use print screen? A little weird, but it could work since civ4 shouldn't be active to you.

Thank you lost civantares, your discussion helped solve my problem. :thanx:

What I was doing to get the pop-up was shift-PrtScn. It's just the way I've always done it and it's always worked. I guess I was doing it because of the way the words are on the key. You got me thinking so I went back and tried pressing PrtScn without shift or anything else and it worked fine.

Yeah, I have the Third highest postcount in CFC. And yes they're all legitimate.

Just one last question about these city things, are only imporvements dsiplayed or are there other city things you see, liek civilian stuff?

The first Transports you can put settlers on are Galleys. Caravels cannot carry military units or settlers/workers. Galleys cannot go into ocean tiles however, so you can only get there with a coastal (light color water) route. If you do not have a coastal route you need to wait for Galleons before you're able to enter ocean tiles.

As so many newbies before me... i really didnt have time to reat through the entire tread... anyway

I am having a problem with spies... this last game, i have had enemy spies sabotaging my oil wells and Uranium mines almost as fast as i could build em...

This isnt much of a problem as i do the same, what i dont get is that despite that i place a spy (that should be able to detect other spies) on top of the resource, the enemy spy still manages to sneak in, sabotage and escape without me ever seeing him err, her...

to counter this ((bug)) I have found out through the flawed and somewhat useless civilopedia that stationing multiple units on top if a resource should lower that chance of success

But is it part of the game that spies are impossibele to detect or is there some problem/bug?

Thank you for your time

I don't know, and haven't tested it, but what happens if you put your own spy on top of the resource that you want to protect? It might keep the other spy from going into the square.

I haven't worked with spies much, but I think the more military units on the square, the higher the chances of catching the spy are. A spy defending the resource just counts as another military unit, but supposedly drastically increases the chance of capture. Having one spy on the resource may not be enough to tip the odds heavily in your favor.

Here's a total newbie question about the board rather than the game.

I've noticed a lot of posts referring to "spam", and not the meat nor the type that clutters your inbox. It sounds like it refers to devoting a city to producing one item (such as Workers) and nothing else.

Am I correct?

If there's any other board slang I should know, please feel free to mudify my fuzzification. Thanks!

Spam here is usually talking about when someone posts about something that has nothing to do with the topic, ie the thread is talking about how canals in civ4 would be the best thing ever, when someone posts about how TF's birthday is May 24, and is exactly 77.34 days away. Rather dramatic, but you get the point.

When talking about Civ4 specificly it can mean when a city/cities builds one unit for an insane amount of time (ie a settler spam in civ3). In civ4 you could hear this when someone is disscussing using a Keshik spam or something like that to invade their enemies.
