Tom's Unit Factory

If this open I will try ask you if these too are possible to make into Civ3 ships. I asked about this in the Unit Request thread and you said it was fairly easy, but I have got stuck in the Blender pgm and all it´s mystery.
My hope is that this Austrian_Hungarian Pre-Dreadnought from Civ4 could be converted.

and possibly this SMS Helgoland Dreadnought

or Modified Brandenburg Pre-Dreadnought

IJN Mikasa BB Japanese Pre-Dreadnought

HMS Canopus British Pre-Dreadnought

just one would be heaven sent !!!!!!!!

Tom, thank you very much for the American Bison, and that White Bison is well, just spectacular. I'm kind of amused that everyone seems to be posting 'Balthasar will really like that', as if I'm the only one who would care. Well I do really like that, but I'd point out that I've been spending most of my time battling hardware and software goblins in my quest to complete the Steampunk Mod - not by myself of course, almost everybody in the forum has contributed to it, including major and critical contributions by you - and my mates King Arthur and Blue Monkey and I are not unaware of the fact that we owe the completion of that mod to the community because of that participation.

But this community's interest in an Old West Mod has been overwhelming. I originally made my Old West map & terrain for Spacer One, who, alas, passed just before it was completed. When discussions about Old West units started to spill into unrelated threads, like the Steampunk Unit Request Thread, I opened a thread for an Old West Mod over at Storm over Civ, hoping that by keeping the discussion "off-site", I might keep it on the back burner over here. Fat chance.

And now, literally while I've been constructing this post, Imperator has produced a marvelous new line of Old West units. So I give, throw in the towel, beat the mat, whatever, I've started a thread in the C&C forum for discussion of an Old West Mod. I'll just have to divide my time between finishing the SP Mod and discussing that one. Everybody wins, I think.

Well, no way to learn it in 1 day! :) It does take time. :p I've started to do some WW2 Japanese ships already, so when I get around to finishing those I can do these and some others. I need to do some other units first (like finishing the whale, and seal if I can find one), but it shouldn't be too long.

Balthasar, your ideas just seem to captivate people. Even yours side side projects. ^^

I'd like to be able to make a living from that little talent someday. :mischief: Seriously, King Arthur conceived the Steampunk Mod, Spacer One was the first to suggest a mod set in the American West to me, so I can't take credit for either of those ideas. What I can do is promote ideas that captivate me, and move them along by making the best graphics I can conger. If I could mod as well as either you or Tom make units, alot more of those ideas would actually exist right now.

Great units! Thanks for the cow - and yes, a run animation would be a nice addition. :) Moo, I mean, thanks!

Hey Tom, this is a really beautiful COW. But to tell you the truth ...... I don't think any self-respecting cattleman would be caught dead pushing a bunch of Jersey or Gernsey COWS along any CATTLE trail. Cowboys don't herd COWS. They herd CATTLE. Like these:

There may have been the occasional cattleman that wasn't self-respecting (and they probably didn't last too long either).

Once I do the run animation on it, I can recolor it as well. :) But this was my first time bone-rigging an animal figure, skinning it, and so forth... so I'll need some more practice before I can get it 'right enough' to make a walkable cow.

I thought you'd get a kick out of that. ;) But that was exactly what I was hinting at was the colorization. Change the black to brown, give the heffer some horns play with the animation a little and I think you have it. Cattle generally moved slowly, on a cattle drive you want to keep as much fat on the cattle as possible as they are being sold by weight. But then again, a cattle stampede, yeeha bring em on boys :cowboy:

I'm just happy to see a cow - any cow - though I admit, I'd love to see this as a Texas Longhorn steer...

Don't worry too much about it Bal, I'm sure Tom will work it out. He has a way of making a good plan come together and like a bulldog, once he sinks his teeth into something, he won't let go until he finishes it. ;) :cowboy:
