If we are talking Money and Innovation, California trumps New York

California is home to so many world-famous skyscrapers? The birthplace of a great President(some would argue Reagan, but as CFC is lefty central, he automatically is dropped from the rollers), or two, rather? Sure it has the immigrants as well... that's where it can match New York.

California also has an unfair advantage by merit of sheer size. It should be cut in half or so.

All that said, I prefer Cali to Nevada. LA(at least the parts I visited) reminds me of NYC a lot, actually.

Population or land area?

Well, if we apply the UN's Human Development Index, Connecticut is the best state in the Union. Karalysia's list correlates decently well to high scoring states, with Vermont being the underachiever of the lot. Similarly, Dach's list contains three out of the five states with the lowest HDI scores, including the bottom two. Unfortunately for him, New Jersey actually scores as the third best state in the union.

whatever you think is the best
Ok, I can only speak for places I've lived in though.

Best people - New York
Best weather - California (bay area)
Prettiest - Massachusetts (in summer)
Best place for chess tournaments - New Jersey
Best place to find just about any type of person or thing - New York (,NY)
Best place to be homeless - Florida
Best place to live on the cheap - Southern Utah
Best place for fresh food - California (by a landslide)
Best women - NY (by a landslide)
Best of not having much best :( : South Carolina

Because of the Hellmouth in Cleveland, I remove my home state from the list. Between New York and California, I think the existance of New York City, one of the great metropolitan centers of the planet, puts it on top. All of the cool vampires are in NYC (SoHo), and the best monsters too, from King Kong to Cloverfield. NYC has the best baggels and linguinni and Letterman. California has that backstabber Lenno.

All of that is negated by the large population of guidos.
The more time that passes Dachs, the more I like the cut of your jib.
However, I disagree with you on this point. Not even our excess guidos can weigh down the awesomeness of New York.

I really should have voted for California, but I voted for Illinois.
Illinois is very dull outside of Chicago, there is very little natural beauty, the weather sucks, the polititians are corrupt, but it is my home. Also it is a blue state and the best president called it his home (Lincoln, not Reagan or Obama).

Alaska is badass 'cause it's giant.
Alabama totally sucks.
Arizona is a goddamn desert and nobody in their right mind would want to live there.
California is overgrown and full of Californians.
Colorado, WTH is Colorado for we could do without Colorado.
Connecticut sucks ass. A couple decent museums, a couple decent parks, but the road network is just a joke.
Florida? Seriously? Florida is too flat, too much Disney, too many old people and Jews, and it's got the worst roads I've ever driven on in my life.
Georgia? What does Georiga have going for it? I think it's useless.
Illinois? The only redeeming quality of Illinois is Godwynn.
Idaho has built its entire personality with potatoes. Potatoes are not interesting. Idaho is not interesting.
Kentucky... I'm unqualified to comment.
Louisiana has NOLA. That alone makes it interesting.
Maryland is pretty useless but it's got great scenery.
Michigan hasn't mattered in decades. Forget that crap.
Minnesota provides Perf.
New Jersey? Is that a joke?
New York is fine. The funnel layout annoys me.
North Carolina? Why?
Ohio sucks except for downtown but that's about it.
Oregon... arguable. I would probably argue against it. The hippies, you know.
Pennsylvania is underrated, and I have personal affinity but it's not the best
Texas blows, we should kick it out.
Virginia? Why?
Washington... see Oregon.

How could you possibly leave out Hawaii?

None of above. Japan should be.

Whatever the past poll said it was.

Cleveland is not the hellhole of Ohio. That title clearly belongs to Youngstown. Cleveland is underrated.

Which state is the best?

Best meaning, what do you think is the best state overall.

Look up the definition of best, if you need to.

POLL COMING

If I didn't include your state, its obviously not the best.

You put in Connecticut and left out Maine. Poll no good :nope:
