Ah, I see, I didn't realise that was check! I was imagining a version with smaller squares. But perhaps that wouldn't show up at all at civ-scale - perhaps it's best as it is.
The hair looks awkward. There are lots of settings that you can fiddle with in the Cloth Room, as no doubt you've discovered - perhaps making it lighter will help prevent it from going into the body. However, you don't get much return for hours messing with these settings - I find the performance of the cloth to be very unpredictable and usually quite flawed. In this case you may be better off turning the ponytail into a poseable figure, with a couple of bones, and manually making it bounce up and down. Probably a hassle but this method usually produces more reliable results. I actually made the hospital gown modelled by the Alpha Zombie preview this way - it's a long rectangle, clothified and draped over him, and then turned into conformable clothing in the Setup Room. Although it did prove harder than I expected to conform it to a distorted PDM, which is what the main figure is.
